Big crack in wall by the door.
    Scott S.

I like to jokingly refer to this type of establishment as a, "Boutique Motel." In times gone past they would have simply been known as a, "Motel." But, in cases like this place, they have taken the time to upgrade the facility, add a fountain, and make the place more interesting. The problem is, (and it is a big problem), they do not keep the facility up to the level of say a Boutique Hotel once the upgrades have been made. You can see the photos I posted of the big cracks in the wall and rotting wood on the floorboard as an example. I have stayed at this Rodeway Inn two times; both for the same the reason -- all the hotels in San Francisco were booked and I needed a last minute place to stay in the Bay Area. The first time was fine. The second time, (a couple of days ago), I check into room 118 and it literally smelled like vomit. It was really overpowering and really very-very bad! This is the problem with places like this; either the staff doesn't care enough or cannot easily fix a problem so they just leave it alone and make the guests live with it. This is simply wrong! No, "Good," establishment would even think of renting out a room in this condition. If a previous guest throws up in a room, the staff and management should do whatever it takes to clean it up properly before the room is rented! What I finally did was to go to the 711 down the street and buy some Febreeze, which got us through the night. In the AM, when breakfast was served, there was also a problem. Though I never eat the free breakfast at places like this, we did go into the office to get a cup of coffee. They were out. How can you be out of coffee for your guests in the morning? That is just poor management. But, the staff is nice... That's the story. Do with it what you will.

The staff is nice. We went in 2017 . It was ok. We just spent one night and they remodeled all of their rooms. It is really nice . However, the pity is some details a little disappointed . They painted half of it and the floor was dirty and they left rubbish stuff outside . These little things should be done because I think it is a bit expensive .

Patched up around the door. Bed was filthy with makeup and blood on the sheets

Too bad zero stars is not an option. This is hands down the nastiest hotel room I have ever seen. Ended up not staying here, as it is way below standards for any normal person to sleep in. Holes in the walls, patched up and painted over entrance to the room, filthy chair, blood and make up on the blankets. Manager was nice enough to give a full refund through Expedia since explaining it is not possible to stay. This is more of a warning to let people know to not stay here. Look at the pictures I have shared. Do not trust the pictures posted by the Business Owner.

Pubic hairs in the face towels so disgusting I hated I ever stayed here

This is probably the worst hotel in Berkeley A spider was under the blanket so I had to go purchase my own for the night pubic hairs in the face towels so disappointing paint all around the doors filthy chairs holes in the walls multiple and also a hole in the tub that I witnessed a ant coming out of well of course that's where all of these spiders coming from y'all need to get it together I don't even wanna show nor wash my face I couldn't wait till daylight to leave this hell hole!!!!! NEGATIVE FIVE STARS TRASH DUMPSTER

This was a very quaint little convenient place to stay in Berkeley since we are not that familiar with the city of Berkeley.we were able to visit very nice restaurant call Angeline's Louisiana Kitchen. after dinner we stopped over at The Albatross Pub on San Pablo and then came right back to the hotel,we will do it again. The room nice and clean. Rick and Sande were great host. I enjoyed the entire experience. We will choose RODEWAY INN for future stays.

This is a nightmare motel. Do not believe Expedia reviews. I came here with my family and had to sleep in my car because my room was so disgusting. Blood on the floor, broken bathroom window, vandalized tv stand and hair on the bed. Do not stay here, even if the cost is low. I paid $159 for the dirtiest room I have ever seen. The front desk was apologetic but did not see the issue. I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

Nicole, our account manager, was an outstanding guide throughout the entire process. She was present and available for site visits, walked us through what was and wasn't possible on site, and helped us make critical decisions about how the day would flow. Our catering lead, Ariel, was fantastic the entire night and made sure that our bride and groom, as well as all of their lovely guests were well fed, and had delicious drinks. As a UC Berkeley graduate, I have always loved Berkeley City Club. It stands out as a wedding venue because it is a naturally beautiful space where anyone can feel like their luxury and they have unique spaces for weddings of any size. This 46 person celebration fit perfectly into the central courtyard, replete with greenery that made the bride's dress shine, and the drawing room, which created an intimate, fun, flowing atmosphere. I highly recommend Berkeley City Club to anyone looking for a beautiful wedding venue that has unique spaces, great food, and outstanding staff.

Unfortunately the ice wasn't in cubes so the flavor was so watered down that I couldn't taste the gin at all...We then were served some great little warm breads with delicious butter YUM! The split mixed iceburg lettuce salad arrived which was a generous portion & well dressed with some notes of tarragon ..nice! John ordered the braised short rib & he subbed out the mashed potato/roquefort for the fried potato disks that came with the rib eye. Good spuds! My beef bourguignon had wonderful toothsome wide egg noodles but weirdly, chunks of green pepper & undercooked pearl onions? The beefy gravy was perfect on the pasta BUT the beef's texture was terrible.. mushy without a smidgen of bite! YUCK! When John had me taste his beef the resuts were much the same... too soft & textureless.. then the opposite...the pretty split carrot halves were too hard & undercooked on his plate to bring out their sweetness....I assume these 2 long cooked meats styles had been sitting for god knows how long I left most of the dinner to take home & see if I could repair the dish... (I'll probably eat the noodles and use the beef in a taco?). so my suggestion is to order the rack of lamb (if I return....which John had had & recommended) & stay away from long cooked items (except beans)

Those details were a major reason I chose to pay for that particular suite. When I arrived, I was informed the suite had been oversold and I was placed into a different suite that did not match the room I reserved or the amenities advertised online. To be fair, I tried to stay understanding and keep a positive attitude during the stay. At checkout, I was told management would work with me to make things right and that I should follow up with the General Manager. Unfortunately, after four emails, multiple follow-up attempts, and two weeks of waiting, I have received no meaningful response from management. Mistakes can happen in hospitality, but ignoring a guest after promising a resolution is disappointing, especially when a premium room was booked specifically for its advertised features. I'm leaving this review mainly because the lack of communication and accountability after the stay has been far more frustrating than the original issue itself.

The host at the restaurant was unfriendly to the point where I almost walked away, although I will say that the waitress I had was very kind. I requested housekeeping multiple times during my stay. I was later told it was not completed because my "Do Not Disturb" sign was up during cleaning hours. However, during previous stays at this hotel, staff still knocked on my door to ask when they could return to clean the room, which made this explanation extremely frustrating. On two separate occasions, front desk staff told me directly that my room would be cleaned, and it never was. One front desk employee was dismissive and spoke to me with an attitude that made me feel disrespected. To make matters worse, the hotel uses automated text messages sent from "Glenda." I responded around 11:30 AM requesting housekeeping because I had work calls scheduled. I left my room for a period of time, returned to find it untouched, and later received another text stating they were unable to clean my room due to a high volume of rooms. This contradicted what I had been told earlier and was extremely disappointing. The room itself is in serious need of updates. The walls are extremely thin--I could hear doors slamming, people yelling, and even the person in the next room using the bathroom. The lack of soundproofing made it impossible to rest or work. For someone staying away from home, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I've had. I ultimately checked out early and went straight home.
