There are also gas stations, restaurants, drug stores and more less than five minutes away. The staff is always friendly, and there are nearly always snacks and extras provided- coffee, cookies, and popcorn. It's always fun to pick something up on the way in, or come down for a snack later in the day. The rooms are small and simple, with the basic necessities. They do have a mini-fridge and a microwave, so save your leftovers! The bathroom is small with a walk-in shower, but it does the job. There is a pocket door, so it doesn't lock. The sink is separate from the toilet and shower, which is a bonus when getting ready in the morning or at night. There is a fitness room and an indoor pool, as well as a business center. Breakfast is included, and includes scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, cinnamon apples, biscuits (with hot gravy to add). There is a waffle station, as well as cold items like cereal, fruit, bread, and bagels. Pretty much anything you'd expect at a hotel breakfast, with plenty of room to sit and eat. This is a great location, and we've always enjoyed this hotel. If you need a spot to stay in the area, I'd recommend it!

We did have a few issues that we noted with staff at checkout - shower head had snapped off (you could see where it had been cracked for a while), the tub didn't drain well, and the TV remote batteries were dead. There was also very suspicious activity in the parking lot during the day. As we described it, it's a typical blue-collar hotel. It was myself and another male friend that were in town for a funeral. If it had been my wife and I, I would have chosen a different hotel in a different area. It's definitely dated. Hallways and other common interior areas in pretty rough shape. Locals informed us that this may not be the safest area for a stay (as evidenced by the aforementioned shady parking lot activity). Staff were very friendly and helpful. We didn't spend a lot of time at the hotel, but had good night's sleep both nights. If you're looking for a place to put your head for a reasonable rate and you're not overly concerned about safety (note two males staying vs. family staying), it's a good place. Anything other than that, I'd look elsewhere.

Maintenance was lacking with a dripping and mildewy shower but it was clean otherwise. Breakfast was fine. No pool but fitness area was a good size. I liked the patterned window shade and the usb cables by the bed. Lots of parking. Nice staff except the male janitor/maintenance person who openly complained, had a wrapped wrist one day and smoked while working outside. This little casino just off from Charleston, West Virginia? Best. Single. Casino. Experience. Of. My. Life. No, it isn't the biggest casino. No, it isn't the fanciest. The décor has an older, darker feel with warm tones, and some people might describe it as a little worn. I'd describe it as comfortable enough to accidentally spend your mortgage payment in. My buddy Brett and I sat down expecting to kill an hour before continuing our drive to Pittsburgh. Three hours later... ...we were still there laughing our heads off. The blackjack tables were outstanding. The players actually knew how to play, which meant no endless debates over whether to hit a 17 or split tens. The games moved at a great pace, everyone was having fun, and despite only walking away about $40 ahead, I honestly couldn't have cared less. In fact, I probably tipped away more than I won. Worth every dollar. Then there was Dakota. Dakota isn't just the best blackjack dealer I met on this trip... He's one of the most entertaining dealers I've ever played with. Somewhere between doubling down and busting the table, we learned he plays bass for the West Virginia metal band Dismember the Outcome. By then the table had become less of a blackjack game and more of a comedy club. We laughed so hard that I genuinely forgot I was gambling. That has never happened before. And then there was the pit boss. I think his name was Dave. Imagine a sharply dressed casino supervisor making sure every blackjack payout is correct...then casually jumping into a conversation about the Lamb of God concert he had attended. That's when I realized this place was different. Behind every suit was somebody you'd happily have a beer with. Speaking of beer... Whoever told me drinking is West Virginia's state sport may have been onto something. Because the real MVP of the afternoon was our cocktail waitress. At one point Brett and I had become just intoxicated enough to loudly yell across the casino for another well vodka shot and Diet Coke. Classy? Absolutely not. Professional? Definitely not. Her response? Without missing a beat she smiled across the casino floor and said, "I gotcha, hun." I swear she covered fifty yards faster than a wide receiver running a post route. By the time I blinked, the drinks were already sitting in front of us. There are Southern belles... ...and then there are Southern cathedral belles. She moved through that casino like the patron saint of thirsty blackjack players. If that's what being welcomed through the Pearly Gates feels like, sign me up. And if, through some clerical error upstairs, she's tending bar somewhere a little warmer... ...well, at least I know the cocktail service will be phenomenal. By the time we left, I'd probably spent almost $100 tipping dealers and cocktail staff, and I don't regret a penny of it. Casinos often try to impress you with marble floors, giant chandeliers, and flashy architecture. Mardi Gras Casino impressed me with something much rarer. People. Wonderful dealers. An unforgettable pit boss. Fantastic cocktail service. A table full of smart players. And enough laughter to carry us all the way to Pittsburgh. Five stars without hesitation. We'll be back. When we get there I ask what time does the Pool and hot ube close? The women looks at me and says they are both broke and have been broke. I said that I talked to the desk clerk when I made the room reservation. She told me very rudely NO YOU DID NOT! I said yes I did she continues telling me I did not talk to anybody there. We tell her we do not want the room anymore. She says do what you want but we are going to charge you for it. We ask if there is another place with a pool and she say not around here. So we leave and can see right next door there is a pool at Country Inn & Suites by Radisson. We go there and get a room. I tell them what happened and the desk clerks tell us that the Microtel send their guests over to use the pool and that their pool at Microtel has been down for a while now. The Manger tells me to talk to Microtel's manger. So we go back and give Microtel the keys back. I ask when the manger will be in ? The rude women tells me he is there now. I am like you could not tell me this before? She gets him, he is very nice and refunds my money back. She stands there saying I cannot believe you are giving them a refund. When we get back to Country inn the clerks tells us that the woman from Microtel called and yelled at them for helping me and telling to go see the manger. I would not stay there.

I moved from the Kanawha Valley in 2015 but still return to this kennel although I now live 45 minutes away. I love the consistency of their staff. My dog is glad to arrive which says something. The business is clean and well organized. I don't feel like I'm paying an arm and a leg. I actually feel like I'm leaving my dog with family. I would recommend Abigail's without any reservations !!

Yes, he was dressed, but, every day, one of Abigail's crew would sit with him, love on him and try to make him feel secure.
