Stopped here on a road trip during the pandemic with our dog, and has a very comfortable and quiet stay.

Checked in for the night. Couldn't stand the stench in the room. Broken A/C unit. Now, laying in the backseat of my car.

Called to see if they had openings at midnight. Person informed me they were closed. Not happy. Why state open 24/7 if not?

I have to set the tone for this review. We are moving so it's me my two teenage girls our two…read moreservice dogs (a lab/mastiff and a doxie-weenier dog-) and the cat in a little station wagon that's packed to the gills. We had gotten a late start leaving the Seattle area and hit rain and major wind I was trying to make Bosie but it was getting dark and all 5 of the kids were starting to get pretty restless. We originally stopped at 4 other hotels in La Grande to be told no pets or that their pet rooms were all taken. So we were sent over here by the last hotel. Now I'm not a huge snob for hotels, if it's clean and comfortable beds you are good to go. The parking lot is a little bit sketchy not a lot of light and the building is a bit old. I walk in and the lady behind the desk is working on two other reservations. So ok the place kinda smells like stale smoke but at this point I'd been up since dawn driving since mid morning and was about ready to collapse. I explain to the lady at the desk that I have two dogs and she says "I'm out of pet rooms" so I asked who else is pet friendly and she's telling me and I mentioned that they were service animals and she was like "wait if they are service dogs then I can get you a room let me check and see what I have." At this point I could have kissed her. So two queen beds 85$ plus tax great. So we are on the other side of the motel and we take the puppies out and leave the cat to settle in for the night since he can't stay in the room. The hallway smells like the same stale smoke and the room is a bit stuffy. But the beds are comfortable if you like a soft bed which we do. The sheets are clean and no sign of bugs which is a major plus. The bathroom was clean but the tub was old and needed to be reglazed so it looked dirty but was not. The biggest downside was that either someone was trying to get into the room or was checking doors or the hallway doesn't seal well and whenever someone else opened a door it would cause my door to rattle. But hey I'm armed and my Loki (lab/mastiff) is big enough to stop someone. So not too worried. But after dinner from dominos pizza (which believe the yelp reviewers on that one) we went to sleep. Nothing disturbed us in the night and we all slept well. So I can give 5 stars on this one I usually don't sleep through the night in a hotel.

After working all day, he still had a 2 1/2-hour drive and wasn't expected to arrive until after 11 PM. His company booked the room for him, so we called the hotel ahead of time to confirm everything would be okay at check-in and to ask whether my husband or his company would be responsible for the deposit. We were ready to provided all the reservation details, including the confirmation number and booking information, but Andy refused to give us any helpful information or assistance. His attitude was basically, "I guess you'll have to take your chances." Even simply looking up the reservation under the info we could provide name letting us know whether the check in would be okay would have been helpful. He could have advised us to contact my husband's employer if any adjustments were needed or clearly explained whether my husband would be responsible for the deposit. Instead, we were left with no clear answers and a lot of unnecessary stress. For someone traveling late at night for work, this was extremely frustrating and unprofessional customer service. A little communication and courtesy would have gone a long way.

The rooms are always clean, bed is always perfect, heater/air conditioning work fantastic, bathrooms are always clean, tv always works so I bring my PS5 to play games haha, they have a microwave and mini fridge that work perfectly, lots of privacy by having the curtains shut and doors locked, at night you can barely hear traffic or people around you but in the morning you're obviously gonna here the cars and trucks go by since it's the start of their work day. No complaints whatsoever, the front desk guy is always super helpful and kind to us.

We had a "pet" room that had the original green-tiled bathroom (see picture). The place looks like it was built in the 50s, and there is some deferred maintenance, but it's the least-priced motel in La Grande. My wife and I were born in the 50s, so we remember road trips to places like this, fondly. If you are coming from the West, it is the first motel you'll see. The Rodeway across the street is closed for remodeling. All the features you expect are there: flat screen TV (with more free cable channels than I've ever seen in a motel/hotel room), refrigerator with freezer, microwave, coffee maker, heater, air conditioner, and closet space with real hangers. No hair dryer. There is an old-fashioned, 6-foot-wide "mow strip" between the street and the sidewalk on the long side of the motel that has three huge trees and lots of grass to walk your dog. If you look at pictures, especially on Google street view, you will see what appears to be a pool enclosure. The pool is still there, but it's filled with dirt. The parking lot is pretty big, so you could park a trailer, RV, or moving van in it easily. Be sure to walk over to Hought's 24 Flavors for some ice cream!

It was Old, inside and out. I'm fine with the green vintage bathroom tiles but everything seemed worn and tired. The toilet was a little wobbly and the shower head leaked and water shot up to the ceiling. I am sure the floors were clean but they were so worn that I felt better keeping shoes or socks on when I walked around. The room also smelled like burnt popcorn. I know that is a smell that is hard to get rid of so in the mornings while i was eating breakfast and it was still cooler out I kept the door open. I don't know if the owners were "so friendly" as other reviews stated but they were not rude. I think they were just tired and overwhelmed. From what I could tell only maybe 4 rooms at the motel were rentable as they were working to update the others. I feel with the number of guests they can have per night and the price they can charge for the quality of the rooms they provide it may take them awhile to get the place up to making a profit. Probably none of my business but I wish them well.

It definitely surprised me in a good way, the price is good for the room, mostly because this hotel is QUIET!! there's no highway next door, the parking lot wasn't full of drunks, there wasn't people opening and closing their doors loudly all night. Plus, dog friendly! The lawns around the hotel are primo according to my dog, they're not gross and the lawns are inviting for the dogs like with rocks and spikey plants like a lot of "dog friendly hotels" have, right next to a busy road. 4/5 as motels go, it is what it is, but it's clean The actual "dog friendliness" rating is 5/5

Rrrriggt. Any who. Being from far away, we weren't sure of the breakfast options and those The Sandman Inn because it offers a few breakfast options, is what was advertised at the time. The breakfast options were awesome in our opinion. Different cereal choices. Pastries, Bagels, Fruit and my favorite. Microwaveable Croissant or Biscuit "Jimmy Dean" Egg, Sausage and Cheese sandwiches. Coffee, Tea. Yogurt. More than you we would dream of. We stay knowing we'll save a few bucks on breakfast. The pool area is nice, even if parts may not be working. Still worth the money.
