I was polling the cities / towns around the midway point between Salt Lake City and Portland. Baker City, Pendleton, Boise... all priced above $200 for a place I really just needed as a crash pad. Driving towards LaGrand, this place comes up for $85 a night. I know the Rodeway Inns are pretty basic, but that's why I love Choice brand hotels. No frills. Just clean, air-conditioned rooms. The mountains surrounding LaGrand are beautiful and I read that it's also a college town. Wouldn't mind visiting again when I'm not on an 800-mile trek to get home. I'm not sure why the app differentiated first floor rooms from ground floor rooms because this building only has one level unless there are either invisible or underground rooms. The parking is free and there's plenty of spots all around the building. I was able to park catty corner to the door of my room. Wrong! You want to park immediately in front of your door to block idiots who pick that spot driving an F150 size truck in front of your room at 1 AM with their high beams on. Which, by the way, is exactly what happened. The rooms have blackout curtains, but that won't stop every particle of light out when that happens. Note for future me. You won't have issues with noisy neighbors overhead, but with only a scant 6 hours to sleep before I had to get driving again, I wasn't pleased to hear voices seemingly in my room which were probably the same idiots mentioned earlier giggling and talking but were actually next door. Walls are thin. Bring some good ear plugs, which I'm happy I did. This place fit the bill otherwise. It was a comfortable and clean place to hang out and crash for a few hours. Wifi is decent, too. And the tub is pink which amused me greatly. read more

It's one of the only places in this town we could find that accepts pets, so beggars can't be choosers. The front desk was nice in the morning, but less than pleased when we showed up around midnight for our late check in. The place is clean, but definitely a no-frills Kind is establishment. Stayed here for a night, the room is dirty, there were food crumbs on the ground and the walls have dirty hand prints on them. Noticed they had put a ton of dryer sheets under the mattress when I checked for bed bugs. The mattress appeared to have stains on it as well, though the sheets were 'clean'. Woke up and noticed my dog 'hunting' something on the ground, figured it was a spider but when I got a closer look it was a cockroach. I tuned over the furniture and found remnants of other cockroaches in a spider web and more food crumbs. Obviously they don't do a thorough job cleaning this hotel. If I could give it a lower rating I would. Save yourself the trouble and find a decent hotel. read more

No. Just no. There was absolutely no parking anywhere on site. The Burger King next door posted all of their parking spots "for customers only." Speaking of, the room I was given was basically in the middle of the Burger King drive through, with a window AC unit that offered me the auditory pleasure of accidental eavesdropping of every order placed. Next to a college... All night long... I don't care about the view, I just wanted to sleep, but it was too much to ask. The traffic & noise of a fast food drive thru 7 feet from your pillow is anything but comfortable or relaxing, especially when you're just trying to get some sleep, which you're unlikely to be successful at, and if you are, you'll only be half-dreaming "do you want fries with that?" all night. Also, not to complain too much, but there was an ant crawling across my pillow when I arrived. It makes every itch suspect. Every itch. Additionally, the mini fridge (??) or pipes in the wall (??) god only knows what, shook and rattled loudly like an earthquake was upon us once every half hour or so. So if Burger King is slow, and you do manage to drift off, not to worry my friend, it won't last long. I seriously wish I'd just pulled into a rest stop and slept in my car. Place was gross, instead of 77.00 a night, this should be honestly a $35.00 a night place. I feel totally ripped off!! It is a very dated 60's looking place. Bathroom was very dim, old pink porcelain. Not enough light to shave or put contacts in safely. The shower head was so low I hurt my back bending over to wash my hair. Beds were very old, but not super terrible. Tiny 27" TV mounted on wall incorrectly at an up angle made watching TV difficult. Pay 10.00 more and get somewhere newer. This motel is a very pleasant surprise after a long day on the Road from far eastern Idaho. It is located in a quiet neighborhood; the front desk staff was super friendly and efficient. The room is average sized and very clean and the beds are quiet comfortable. For the price I couldn't have expected more. it has become my go too motel when traveling on I-84 through eastern Oregon. i recommences you try it, you too will find it a positive experience. read more

Stayed here while traveling on business. I chose it because the price is very reasonable and I have the choice rewards program. I was greeted by a nice lady and she checked me in right away. When i booked online I didn't realize I booked a smoking room. She asked me if that's what I wanted and I told Her I preferred a non smoking room if possible. She quickly made the change and I was set to go. This is an old motel from the 50's. It was last updated in the 80's. It still has the pink tile in the bathroom. The room was clean but dated. The bed was very soft and I found the pillows ok. My room was on the opposite side of the gas station so I had some noise but not a ton. I heard when my neighbor took a shower and the plumbing makes a noise. Plus there was a group of construction guys staying there and they got up early to leave for work and their diesel trucks are loud. The heater is an old baseboard style so it was hard to adjust the temperature. This is an ok motel. If you need a cheap place to stay this will do. read more

The mattress was old and rickety, the pillows were full of clumped up material. It was by far the worst place I have ever attempted to sleep. Oh, torn between a two and three star review-the deal here is that you are in La Grande. For La Grande, this place is a definite 3 star joint, solid. And also, it is a Rodeway Inn people. Don't expect the Ritz Carlton. However, in the rest of the world, a solid two star. My room was small but clean. The bathroom was very clean. Soap, cheap- melted during the shower. Skimpy bath towels as in tiny and thin. My bed. Oh, my bed. It sunk in the middle. Sharp bed edges. However, it was not super uncomfortable. The room temp was good and not hot. Good cable choices and some premium channels. The owner, an older lady, hilarious. Gave me a room away from the sun as I requested. Had a few problems with the wifi, took the laptop to the office and was hooked up in a jiffy. I stayed here to get points for my choice hotels, so it worked for me. Now, if you want high-class, this isn't it. You have been warned, but if you are in La Grande, you shouldn't be surprised. read more

If you are desperate for a hotel and don't care about the facilities, features, or noise, this is your place. First off, the hotel is advertised on highway signs on the highway, but is over 4 miles off of the highway. I actually stopped and regoogled the location thinking I'd missed it only to find it was further down the road. Be preparred. I stayed here because I was in need of a hotel and they were a choice hotel, where I have a rewards account. This hotel has not ever been updated, and I mean ever. The bathroom was pink tile, which isn't a problem in itsself, but you could see where the tile and bathroom had been in need of renovation and was just patched up and kept on chugging. The noise level in this hotel was bad. If you are sensitive to noise, do not stay here. I could hear another person taking a shower as though I was in the room with them. You could even hear the squeaks of their feet on the tub floor. Additionally, half of this hotel faces a gas station which is also the town's Burger King. They have a drive thru. The DT is open until at least 11, so prepare yourself for order taking and people cruising thru until then. The insulation is so poor on these rooms that I could hear the DT speaker. Even worse, most of the patrons drive giant diesel trucks that were so noisy they actually had to shut off their engines just to order. The bed covers and furniture were definitely from the 80's, and the owner lives on the property and sleeps there. I decided not to stay for the breakfast, as i was just ready to leave this awful hotel. When I turned in the key, I saw the owner unwrapping bagels from cling wrap. God only knows how old they were. I didn't stay to find out how bad the breakfast truly was. I was very unhappy with my stay, and had I been in a position to continue driving, I would have. If you have another hour to spare, drive to Pendleton and stay there. If you don't care how bad the hotel is, and aren't sensitive to noise, by all means stay here. If you are looking for a decent hotel, please save yourself the pain and drive the extra hour to Pendleton and stay in a decent hotel. read more

Nice place to stay. Cozy clean rooms near the center of town. Our room wasn't huge but that's no problem if you're on your own or are fond of your traveling companion. The rate is about half of what you'd pay at the larger chains out by the interstate, would definitely recommend driving the extra 3 minutes to save $70 read more

Pros: - Breakfast includes bagels, coffee, orange juice, tea, muffins, oatmeal, hot water, simple stuff. - The staff was very friendly. When we checked in at 9 pm and visited at 7 am for a receipt, the guy at the counter was very courteous and always nearby. - Clean and simple. Cons: - If you're a light sleeper, get a room on the west side of the motel, away from the Burger King. I didn't hear it at night, but in the morning you can hear the intercom. - The walls are pretty thin - you can hear the water running in the other room and heavy footsteps if you have those kinds of neighbors. Ok, four stars for a cheap hotel, I know you are skeptical, but don't be. The hotel is older but looks to be newly upgraded and in perfect condition. Rooms were very clean and the bed comfortable. There were a few minor things you might expect for a hotel that charges less than $50 per night: - Pillows were a bit lumpy. - bath towels were skimpy. - wifi was not great - worked for some devices and not others. If you are looking for the perfect hotel experience then don't bother, but if you are looking of a clean and comfortable place at an amazing price in La Grande then this is it. read more

The Internet is good. One side is right next to a Burger King drive through. I mean 50' from your door. The rooms are small, dumpy, and cold. The linens look 30 years old. You get what you pay for. I'll find somewhere else next time. read more

Skipped the continental breakfast, but staff was friendly, place was quiet. Bed is not the best, and pillow sucks, so pay for a better place if these things bother you. It was just what we were looking for, clean, quiet, nice mattress for a good night's sleep. Staff was friendly enough. Don't expect many amenities, there was soap, shampoo and plenty of towels, (nice, thick ones) as well as a coffee maker with cocoa. No blow dryer, but I never use them anyway. The bed was newer and quite comfortable. The air conditioner had been on so when we arrived the room was nice and cool. Even though the place could use updating, it was clean, comfortable and well done. A good value. I purposely chose this place because it was far away from the train tracks, I was able to get an uninterrupted nights sleep in a king sized bed and a good shower. The pool was open and looked welcoming on the hot August day. We didn't use it, or the continental breakfast either, we were in and out. The cost was $65 before taxes, which isn't the very cheapest in town but a good value. read more
