If you're looking for a cheap place to stay, this is that. However, for $70 a night I would expect more amenities. Right from the get-go, troubles with booking the room. Was coming in off the highway and had a friend book the room, so that I'd have a place to crash from an impending snowstorm. With credit card payment confirmation and a pin #, I was still asked for a credit card. They did not want to accept the confirmation information. Instead of asking for a second credit card. After having front desk person speak with person who booked the room, they then had two payments and said they would refund my card. Once original person's identity was confirmed. Although they have confirmed I will receive a refund. They also said I would receive the refund Within no later than a half an hour. I'm still waiting and it's been a few hours. I have called the front desk and still nothing. Feeling doubtful I will receive a refund, and may have to go through my credit union. Back to the amenities. Curtains are falling off the rod, broken air conditioner knobs, Outlets that are not finished in the wall, light bulbs out, towels that feel like sandpaper, slow Heat. Would certainly expect much better for $70. You can get more with an Econo Lodge or Motel 8. The refrigerator was not plugged in. But, at least it turned on. The bed seems somewhat decent. Free Wi-Fi, the TV is a flat screen and connect with good picture quality. The microwave works, there is a hot shower and it's clean. I'm not hard to please, I am a frequent car camper and Backpacker. If I'm going book a room, regardless of cost, there are certain amenities I expect to be working and I expect good business. --- UPDATE --- Received refund. No problems. Would have liked to have received a call. But, the fact that it did it and there is no problems with it. Upgrading my one star to 3 stars. Service is everything!

Very clean, very friendly staff. We were making a long drive and that was all we needed from our hotel, so we were extremely pleased.

The rooms are always clean, bed is always perfect, heater/air conditioning work fantastic, bathrooms are always clean, tv always works so I bring my PS5 to play games haha, they have a microwave and mini fridge that work perfectly, lots of privacy by having the curtains shut and doors locked, at night you can barely hear traffic or people around you but in the morning you're obviously gonna here the cars and trucks go by since it's the start of their work day. After working all day, he still had a 2 1/2-hour drive and wasn't expected to arrive until after 11 PM. His company booked the room for him, so we called the hotel ahead of time to confirm everything would be okay at check-in and to ask whether my husband or his company would be responsible for the deposit. We were ready to provided all the reservation details, including the confirmation number and booking information, but Andy refused to give us any helpful information or assistance. His attitude was basically, "I guess you'll have to take your chances." Even simply looking up the reservation under the info we could provide name letting us know whether the check in would be okay would have been helpful. He could have advised us to contact my husband's employer if any adjustments were needed or clearly explained whether my husband would be responsible for the deposit. Instead, we were left with no clear answers and a lot of unnecessary stress. For someone traveling late at night for work, this was extremely frustrating and unprofessional customer service. A little communication and courtesy would have gone a long way.

Greenwell Motel - Not a big room, but it has all the features. The big window is to the right in this picture.

We had a "pet" room that had the original green-tiled bathroom (see picture). The place looks like it was built in the 50s, and there is some deferred maintenance, but it's the least-priced motel in La Grande. My wife and I were born in the 50s, so we remember road trips to places like this, fondly. If you are coming from the West, it is the first motel you'll see. The Rodeway across the street is closed for remodeling. All the features you expect are there: flat screen TV (with more free cable channels than I've ever seen in a motel/hotel room), refrigerator with freezer, microwave, coffee maker, heater, air conditioner, and closet space with real hangers. No hair dryer. There is an old-fashioned, 6-foot-wide "mow strip" between the street and the sidewalk on the long side of the motel that has three huge trees and lots of grass to walk your dog. If you look at pictures, especially on Google street view, you will see what appears to be a pool enclosure. The pool is still there, but it's filled with dirt. The parking lot is pretty big, so you could park a trailer, RV, or moving van in it easily. Be sure to walk over to Hought's 24 Flavors for some ice cream!

It was Old, inside and out. I'm fine with the green vintage bathroom tiles but everything seemed worn and tired. The toilet was a little wobbly and the shower head leaked and water shot up to the ceiling. I am sure the floors were clean but they were so worn that I felt better keeping shoes or socks on when I walked around. The room also smelled like burnt popcorn. I know that is a smell that is hard to get rid of so in the mornings while i was eating breakfast and it was still cooler out I kept the door open. I don't know if the owners were "so friendly" as other reviews stated but they were not rude. I think they were just tired and overwhelmed. From what I could tell only maybe 4 rooms at the motel were rentable as they were working to update the others. I feel with the number of guests they can have per night and the price they can charge for the quality of the rooms they provide it may take them awhile to get the place up to making a profit. Probably none of my business but I wish them well.

It definitely surprised me in a good way, the price is good for the room, mostly because this hotel is QUIET!! there's no highway next door, the parking lot wasn't full of drunks, there wasn't people opening and closing their doors loudly all night. Plus, dog friendly! The lawns around the hotel are primo according to my dog, they're not gross and the lawns are inviting for the dogs like with rocks and spikey plants like a lot of "dog friendly hotels" have, right next to a busy road. 4/5 as motels go, it is what it is, but it's clean The actual "dog friendliness" rating is 5/5

Rrrriggt. Any who. Being from far away, we weren't sure of the breakfast options and those The Sandman Inn because it offers a few breakfast options, is what was advertised at the time. The breakfast options were awesome in our opinion. Different cereal choices. Pastries, Bagels, Fruit and my favorite. Microwaveable Croissant or Biscuit "Jimmy Dean" Egg, Sausage and Cheese sandwiches. Coffee, Tea. Yogurt. More than you we would dream of. We stay knowing we'll save a few bucks on breakfast. The pool area is nice, even if parts may not be working. Still worth the money.
