I was exhausted. people , if you were expecting the Taj Mahal ,this ain't it. it has its flaws I've been coming here for years. the bed was clean, no bedbugs, which is a bonus, pool was closed but I wasn't coming for a swim.the dennys is also very close and a bonus as well.the food I had was excellent, and I used to work at dennys, so I know whats up, the menu change was great! the free at the hotel breakfast was good and filling, all you can eat really..the cook - front desk was very nice and relatable. everything worked, door locks, showers. heater, air conditioner, coffee maker etc. only issue I had was the next door folks that showed up. noisy. forgot my ear plugs. I would be careful with reservation here i did one 4days ahead of when I was going to be there got there on the date of my reservation with the confirmation code an hr before check in time an they had gave away my room then told me they had no more rooms available an I wasn't the only person they did this to there was a couple of family they did it to that idk but still once they said there was nothing they could do i thought well then i shouldn't get charged for anything since it was there mistake and they over booked well i was wrong they charged me for everything even for not showing up when i did so i went an talk to them in person before i left town an they said they would fix it an refund me everything even gave me some paper saying it would be in my account in less then 7days well here it is almost a month later an i still haven't gotten a refund for anything .... so to me every poor service all around will never recommended then to anyone ever. read more

OH MY GOD NO!!!!!!!!!! Hair and cracker crumbs in our "freshly" made bed! We walked into our room, pulled the blankets down, and immediately walked back downstairs and got a refund. In the room for less than 5 minutes. Stop in Pendleton and get a hotel there, or if you want a funny story like I now have, stop here..sit in the room for 5 minutes, cry, write a sad poem, and then go get a good hotel. Sketchy folks walking the hotel hallways, they had to have been high, the bathroom was horrid! We stayed here to be close to the Eagle Cap train ride. I usually always check reviews. This is the first time I didn't when my husband booked this room. It was the worst place we have ever stayed. I don't know how it is even legal to stay open with its filth and problems. We wouldn't touch the disgusting tub. There was one towel, one washcloth, one hand towel. A teeny bed that wobbles with two small pillows. When we left the next morning.. luckily we were there only a few hours .... there were trash cans and buckets all over collecting water running through the light fixture and other areas of the ceiling!! read more

This is the last place we stopped at before we made a mad dash for home. In hindsight, we should have pushed on. The room we "lucked" into was on the second floor, facing the South. A Southern facing room gets most of the sun during the day. And the curtains were open. Great. It got ALL the sun. The AC unit was blowing HOT air. No warm. Not tepid. Not cool. HOT. Satan's asscrack hot. Awesome. The minifridge might be able to hold a sixpack of mini Cokes. If it hadn't crapped out in the middle of the night. While it was holding insulin that was needed by one of the diabetics I was traveling with. Oh, and the OTHER diabetic I was traveling with? His condition requires that he have access to as much fresh water as possible. Well, when the room is an EZ Bake Oven, a normal human being goes through more water than usual. How do I know this? Because I was sucking water from the bathroom tap like a camel at an oasis. As for the Waterboy... he was a gnat's ass away from heat exhaustion, just from the temperature of the room. What were we told? The railroad is in town and has the whole hotel booked until September, so we can't trade rooms. And they can't fix the AC, well, because. So it was my job to sit up all night, rotating wet towels in and out of that tiny Gamecube-sized microfridge to the two who needed it most. To add insult to injury, opening the window only resulted in peeling the window frame away from the glass and letting in every blood-sucking insect on the planet for an all-you-can-eat buffet. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. There was only one set of towels in the bath, hair in the shower ran out of Kleenex and no extra toilet paper and no cups for the coffee machine. The carpets were not vacuumed and the place was just dirty. We almost wondered if the sheets had been changed! Filthy. Every soft surface (carpet, bed spread, chair) has multiple stains. I found some unknown substance smeared on the night stand. Last curtain hook missing so couldn't fully close drapes. Moved the chair so I could stand on it to deal with the drapes and found food debris and a swizzle stick under the chair. Let's start by saying you get what you pay for, which luckily we only paid $50 for the night. The sheets and towels were clean, but that's it. I travel A LOT for work. As in 4 nights per week a lot. Even during the COVID. I own a small business, so I attempt to stay economically, although not cheaply. Safe to say, I'm VERY well versed in midrange hotels. When I say that, I mean hotels in the $90 to $200 per night price range. The majority of them are MUCH better than this place. With that said, don't stay here if you can avoid it. To say it's old and rundown for a $95 per night room is an understatement. It stinks (like cat pee), it's dirty, outdated and just plain gross. The furniture, carpet and drapes are old and nasty. Plus, the parking area where I had to park my truck has no lighting and is an area just begging for vehicle prowlers. I was a head housekeeper for best Western sandman travel lodge and worked at EOU, I was mortified when I seen the condition of the lagrande inn. Floors carpeting not cleaned vacuum only bathroom amenities was a already used soap. Pool filthy, bedding had stuff in it. No coffee cups in room for coffee makers, no microwave, fridges need updated, curtains need cleaned. Breakfast is not what you would think. If one of my girls would of cleaned our rooms like that it wouldn't of been good. If you are going to charge that amount, check rooms to make certain cleaned. Otherwise charge 25. read more

Walls, carpet, door knobs, and furniture are stained and filthy. Room had a funky smell. Parking lot had trash blowing all over. Found a ham steak and fast food cup with a dirty image drawn on it by our car. Digital key entry to the room did not work .. you could open the room door without a key. Deadbolt didn't work either .. the only lock that worked on the room door was the swing bar so there was no way to secure the door when you're not in your room. The pool/hot tub/continental breakfast was closed due to Covid. There is a sketchy abandoned motel next door with the doors kicked in. Will not stay here again and do not recommend. read more

In the past we stayed here and it was nice but something is going on because housekeeping and maintenance has been abandoned which is a shame because they still have nice furniture and carpet in the rooms. First of all, our beds were barely made. The bedspreads were all off kilter and the pillows on both beds were in little heaps. It really looked like someone had been hanging out in here watching TV. On closer examination, someone needs to be taught how to make beds because the head of the top sheet was at the bottom of the bed. Basic bed-making skills non existent. Yes, this annoyed me. This and the flat, old pillows. The curtain was falling off the rod and looking all janky. The air conditioning unit is falling out of the wall and the window is stuck open. And this is a first floor room. There was a chair missing which we though was probably because it would have been under the air conditioning unit that could fall on it. The carpet had not been vacuumed and was pretty gross. The bathtub was disgusting. Chipped, yellow, painted poorly. Mold in the corner and tiles that were broken and sticking out. Not to mention the spigot which was at about a 45 degree angle from where it should be. There was no soap at the sink. We had to go get some. The furniture was nice but it just hadn't been cleaned or cared for in I-don't-know-how-long. There was even a big hole in the exterior of the building. Who lets that stay broken when you are trying to attract customers? The breakfast that was advertised was gone by 9am. The next morning when we went in closer to 8, there was still some breakfast left but not for long. All the housekeepers were in there eating and watching TV. What time do they have to start to have that be break time? Someone's asleep at the wheel here and needs to know how bad it is getting quickly. When we were here 2 years ago it was nice. It's beyond crummy now. I don't accept the other reviews I'm reading where they say you have to accept shabby because it's La Grande. The toilet was so small and short it felt like a kids toilet. TV was very dark that you couldn't see the picture well at all. It was a non-smoking room but smells like cigarettes. Ok...went back again. Decided on a second chance for improvement. None made. Got the exact room as the last time. Amazing. the only difference were the roaches living behind the refrigerator. Wife got some hunting time on them. Killed three. Not enough towels, only one. Sheets did have some stainage ...but were washed and cleaned otherwise, maybe they were cutting back on bleach. It was what most people here say. Dingy, unclean, broken down. There was a fella that came in when I was checking in and asked " got any surveillance cameras? My truck was stolen from here last night". That got us wondering. The king bed was comfy Though, and it was the cheapest room in town at 64$ a night, with taxes it was 74$ and some change. Next time I might just set up a tent in a campground. But it was getting cold at night here. Would I go back? Not sure. If I was desperate...maybe. Wife did a thorough check for bedbugs and found none. That was a good point. It has its plus and minuses, there were people staying here like last time... so it is being used. read more

Wow, just wow. Our car broke down near La Grande and this was the closest place for us to stay, unfortunately. This hotel was the absolute worst place I have ever stayed. If it even looked half as good as the pictures posted online, I would have been ok with it. Between the bugs (yes in our room), the cobwebs all over the building, the stains on the carpets, the automatic doors not working for key card access and the amount of garbage everywhere I am actually surprised this place has business at all. We had a room in building 2 which had a great view of tall dead weeds and the abandoned vacant building 3 with all the doors left open and trash everywhere. Let's not forget the huge rolls of what I am assuming is new carpeting to be put in that were all up and down the hallways. I am not even sure how this place is still in business. $85/night with the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in. The staff was friendly. read more

Went to a restaurant nearby and one of the waitresses had said that an employees car had been broken into recently. Did not feel safe there. I left an hour after being there and I drove an hour away to get to a cleaner hotel in the middle of the night. That's how bad it was. I was so exhausted when I got there but I chose to drive an hour away because of how bad it was. I'm close to 60 years old and I have never been to anywhere more disgusting than this place. This is the one of the worst places I've ever stayed at. I switched rooms 2 times now. The first switch was because the smoke detector kept beeping and they didn't want to change the battery. The second time was because the heater was broken and the sliding glass door lock was broken. The floor was not vacuumed in my third room. There were nut shells on the floor. I'm adjusting my rating based on the fact that this IS La Grande and not Vegas. The Motel: -Staff is friendly enough -The motel seems to be about 30 years old but has been updated in recent years -Ice maker signs abound, but there is only one by the front desk -Pool + Spa -I didn't have a chance to use, but the pool is in a central courtyard which is a nice touch (feels less Motel6-ey) spa is behind the lobby closer to the Denny's (odd location and not very secluded) -Rooms are older and have that old smell (not gross or overpowering, but its there) -Basic set up, 25 inch TV with cable, Wifi, small fridge, coffee maker -Bed in my room was decently comfortable and firm -Pillows were pretty destroyed and the comforter cover was very itchy -Continental bfast has the usual eggs, cereal, bagels, fruit, pastries (no yogurt or oatmeal) -Overall for ~55 a night this is a reasonable place to stay, not romantic by any stretch, but everything about the place is satisfactorily done, so theres not glaring issues not to stay here. The front desk gal was nice..we checked in on a Saturday evening 8/11/18 and she was folding sheets & towels at the desk . Price was budget if you call $79 inexpensive. The rooms were not clean sunflower seed shells and debris on the floor by bed, bathroom floor, walls, door needed to be cleaned & entire room needed dusting. Parking lot has huge potholes. The room had so many things wrong I can't even list them all, but I will try: carpet old, filthy and was not vacuumed, every flat service was dirty and dusty. Reading the other views has made me mildly paranoid. My experience thus far is comfy beds, friendly staff, reasonable rates, and free wifi. I hope to not encounter any bed bugs. It's dated, yes. But, so far, clean and comfy. No complaints. Thanks to the other Yelpers, I spent a sleepless night paranoid about bed bugs. At around five a.m., I took a nice, long HOT shower in a clean bathroom sans pubic hairs and then managed to get a couple hours of sleep in a comfy bed. The towels were of good quality. Moral of this story? Outdated is not bad. I never saw any bedbugs or signs of them. I wish I would not have read the reviews. I would stay here again. read more

I have to set the tone for this review. We are moving so it's me my two teenage girls our two service dogs (a lab/mastiff and a doxie-weenier dog-) and the cat in a little station wagon that's packed to the gills. We had gotten a late start leaving the Seattle area and hit rain and major wind I was trying to make Bosie but it was getting dark and all 5 of the kids were starting to get pretty restless. We originally stopped at 4 other hotels in La Grande to be told no pets or that their pet rooms were all taken. So we were sent over here by the last hotel. Now I'm not a huge snob for hotels, if it's clean and comfortable beds you are good to go. The parking lot is a little bit sketchy not a lot of light and the building is a bit old. I walk in and the lady behind the desk is working on two other reservations. So ok the place kinda smells like stale smoke but at this point I'd been up since dawn driving since mid morning and was about ready to collapse. I explain to the lady at the desk that I have two dogs and she says "I'm out of pet rooms" so I asked who else is pet friendly and she's telling me and I mentioned that they were service animals and she was like "wait if they are service dogs then I can get you a room let me check and see what I have." At this point I could have kissed her. So two queen beds 85$ plus tax great. So we are on the other side of the motel and we take the puppies out and leave the cat to settle in for the night since he can't stay in the room. The hallway smells like the same stale smoke and the room is a bit stuffy. But the beds are comfortable if you like a soft bed which we do. The sheets are clean and no sign of bugs which is a major plus. The bathroom was clean but the tub was old and needed to be reglazed so it looked dirty but was not. The biggest downside was that either someone was trying to get into the room or was checking doors or the hallway doesn't seal well and whenever someone else opened a door it would cause my door to rattle. But hey I'm armed and my Loki (lab/mastiff) is big enough to stop someone. So not too worried. But after dinner from dominos pizza (which believe the yelp reviewers on that one) we went to sleep. Nothing disturbed us in the night and we all slept well. So I can give 5 stars on this one I usually don't sleep through the night in a hotel. read more

I think this review is best broken down into two categories: what this hotel HAD and what this hotel DIDN'T HAVE. Let's start with the had. HAD: - a bed - a shower - a stained toilet bowl - a room with 4 walls, one of which was cinder blocks painted over DIDN'T HAVE: - a toaster in the breakfast area - a bathroom in the lobby - much of anything besides hard boiled eggs and apples and oranges for breakfast (appetizing, right?)
