My favorite bar in Rockaway Park, just off the boardwalk. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. This legendary bar was recently renovated with an upstairs hotel, but it did not ruin its old fashioned charm. This bar mostly consists of an older crowd (60s and 70s). Bartender was very friendly with fast service. I think its cash only (didnt see anyone paying with credit cards). I sat at the end of the bar next to the wide open windows and it was very pleasant enjoying a beer while feeling the nice cool breeze from outside. They also have a backyard patio. Although the jukebox appeared to be broken, bsckground music was mainly 60s doo wop. Beer prices were about $6 a pint which I would not call cheap, but not too expensive either. No food is served here and I am not sure if they allow outside food either. I should have asked. read more

I visited Rogers after running a Rockapulco-sponsored half marathon on the boardwalk. Rogers was the post-race meeting place. Overall, I had a great experience at Rogers and would return. Like most of the pubs and bars in the area, Rogers has a very local neighborhood vibe and feel to it. You know, a place where local folks hang out, and everybody probably knows (or knows of) each other. Although the bar's community is pretty close (from my general observation), people are very welcoming. I chatted with a few folks while guzzling multiple Bloody Marys and gin & sodas. Originally, I planned to stay for one drink (the half marathon's registration came with one drink coupon) and head back to Manhattan. Because I felt that I was in good company (hey, I'm chatty), I ended up staying there for about 2.5 hrs. Rene, the bartender, was pretty nice and professional. I definitely would visit again after spending a day at the beach. Also, Rogers is super close to the A or S train subway stop, and about a 5-8 minute walk to and from the NYC Ferry. Some of the running club members and I hit up Rogers not too long ago after a Rockapulco Run half marathon on the nearby boardwalk. Typical old-school Rockaways Irish pub. Yes, it's a 100 year old bar. Gotta love these divey old joints. No food served here, but the beer is served up cold by no-nonsense bartenders with a gruff charm. Fun locals crowd ranging from old stalwarts to a few younger patrons who also ran the race and were there to get their drink on. read more

Rockaways oldest pub and hotel revamped! What a great way to visit. Spend the day on the beach, ride your bike for miles on the boardwalk and dine in restaurants or concessions. Your choice of seafood, authentic Latino, Italian, Mediterranean, American, Ramen, you name it. Maybe take a ferry to see the Lady and the Man. That's Lady Liberty in the harbor on your way to Manhattan. And return to your cool, clean, newly renovated room for a nap in your really comfortable bed or relax watching TV knowing your evening starts again soon if you want. No need to go far! I got a room above this bar through air bnb and I can't stress enough just how kind and accommodating Mike, Renee (the owners) and even the other bar tenders were. The room was a nice clean and comfortable space for me to sleep and shower in between beach days. It's about a 3 minute walk to rockaway which was exactly what I was looking for and I am beyond happy with my stay. And as far as Rogers itself is concerned, it's a fun sports bar with extremely reasonably priced drinks, a chill atmosphere, and nothing but good hearted people on staff. I'd recommend the room or the bar to absolutely anybody. If I ever decide to do another beach retreat by rockaway I will 100% be coming back here. read more

One of the older if not oldest bars in the Rockaways.. The place is from 1919 and it shows.. The back bar has most of the original equipment where unfortunately, I think because of sandy, the bar itself has been replaced.. The hours are from 9 am to 2 am everyday.. For those of you who know the area, it's kind of a mixed bag. Local drunks, bar regulars and the occasional tourist like myself and my wife. We came here on my birthday and sat at the bar and talked with the super friendly Irish Bartender.. A sweetheart of a guy.. We fed the amazingly curated classic jukebox, threw a couple shots and beers back and hung out for a few hours.. We watched people come and go and sort of people watched.. A cool thing about this place is, they let you take food in from Pickles and Pies across the street.. We rang in the my birthday at midnight with celebratory grilled cheese and bacon sandwiches.. A perfect ending to a perfect night at Rodgers.. Local flavor, local history. If you want to get the full local experience, this has to be a stop on your night of drinking. There is plenty of room for a group of friends to hang out or come belly up to the bar and be prepared to meet some interesting folks. read more

Very cheap dive bar. Hit the trifecta last time, beers were $2.75 for Bud bottles (and a buy back after 2) and we found the jukebox having about 12 free songs left on it. I suppose the third best thing was meeting an old Irish dude who kept shaking my hand, but not sure if that was a highlight or not. read more

I'm certain that the bartender tried to ask you to stop, NOT because you were a same-sex couple, but because it was gross and immature in that setting. Your claim that a straight couple was making out without consequence is a fabrication. When i asked you if you were from the area (to which you replied that you were from Sunnyside, not "What does it matter?"), it was actually to try to make you feel a little more comfortable while your partner was confronting the bartender unnecessarily. I didn't say "He's had some problems in HERE", out of respect for his privacy, i won't say what I did say to you, but I was trying to intervene on the behalf of a local bartender who is nothing but professional and respectful to all. You did not say anything in response to me other than "But it's 2018", to which i agreed and said "OK then", or something in that vein since you clearly didn't care to listen to logic. A few weeks back I was so excited to go to Roger's Pub. My girlfriend is from Ireland and she raved about how great of a place it was. But shortly after we stepped foot in the establishment things went sour quick. There were no available seats at the bar so we sat down at a table. While enjoying our drinks and exchanging a few kisses and not 2 minutes later the bartender came from behind the bar and loudly knocked his fist on the table saying "is everything ok ladies??" We both work in the bar industry so we know what that means. You cannot be who you are in this pub is what that means, meanwhile the straight couple in the booth next to us were making out and the bartender did not go knocking on their table. When she approached the bar to order a drink my GF in a friendly conversation asked the bartender why he felt he needed to knock on our table and his response was "theres the DOOR"...Meanwhile the girl in the booth next to us asked if "we were from around here?" I asked her why that mattered and she said "well the bartender has dealt with a lot of problems here" and I replied "well me kissing my girlfriend is not a problem". "Let's agree to disagree " was her response. We decided to be the bigger people and left and will NEVER RETURN and have told everyone we know to never frequent this establishment. Its 2018 and homophobia should not ever be tolerated. read more

This is a classic Rockaway Beach establishment since 1919. Three generations of Rogers have owned and continue to operate this small business in Rockaway Park. Rogers serves superior Guinness, as well as several other beers on tap. The beer tapping system is cleaned by hand regularly as evidenced by the beer quality. Though there are many great Irish Bars in Queens, Rogers is ideally situated across the street from the Subway/NYC Bus and one block up from the beach. A must try! read more
