I took the holistic health diploma full-time and learned a lot about healing. There are some really…read moregreat things about this school. The order that you take the classes in is just right and you are challenged to do your own personal healing. The range in teaching ability is considerable: some instructors really TEACH and are good at it; some teachers give the impression they're just there to bring in extra income. A few of the teachers talk down to their class and disregard students' own professional experience. There were a number of Reiki Masters in our class, as well as some really gifted healers. Nevertheless, some (but not all) teachers treated us as if we had zero knowledge. It also helps to know that some instructors are very slow in returning case studies (in my class's experience up to 1 year, with 6-8 months being a rough average). If you don't hand in your case studies about one month before graduation, you will need to wait an additional 6 months or so to get your diploma. If you want to go into holistic health professionally, this is a good foundation but it's likely you will need further training. Know that there is not much in the way of student support and there is no alumni group. I got the impression that admin staff are stretched thin.

Our instructors are leaders and specialists in their fields and many are actively involved in the community and maintain their own private practices. We are committed to keeping abreast with the latest research and development and to expanding our professional skills. We are dedicated to our own emotional healing and spiritual development on an ongoing basis. Because it's a school, there is usually 3 people residing over your treatment (1 primary and 2 secondaries). You'll be asked a lot of questions about your health and any issues you have. They then leave for about 5 minutes deciding how to treat you. I teach yoga and if you can believe it, I get tight in my upper back (all those downward dogs), so sometimes I'll get a massage (Tuina, a chinese massage that is done over your clothes and feels amazing; cupping, which is a deep massage but if you love deep tissue massage, it's AWESOME!!! You will have marks on your backs though - they do fade; sometimes Shiatsu). They also do acupuncture (of course). They will also prescribe herbs if needed. The cost is $20 a session (the session is about 1.5 hours), but if you get a living green card, it's $15/session. Go...just go.

In which case, cost is more than student-run, but still very reasonable I think compared to many other places. The practioners there are excellent, so knowledgeable and intuitive and treat all sorts of issues. Very comfortable, professional, and relaxing atmosphere. I highly recommend a visit, especially if you are struggling with some sort of issue and not sure what can be done about it. I think they can help or point you in the right direction.

I decided to enroll at the Academy of Computer and Employment Skills (ACES) which offers many key courses related to office work. ACES is a subsidiary of Working Skills Centre (WSC). After a period of unemployment, ACES provided me all the training I needed to get a diploma and find gainful employment in my area of interest. I did the Administrative Assistant program and honestly, I was happily surprised at how in-depth the courses were. Upon completion of the computer courses in this program, you will also be prepared to test for the Microsoft Office Specialist certificate if you choose to. ACES's instructors are highly knowledgeable, helpful and accommodating. They go out of their way to help you with program work and with navigating life difficulties throughout the duration of your course if needed. In the Admin Assistant program, all of the courses are studied from basic to an advanced level. Prior to graduation, you will undergo intense job search training with in-house and guest expert lectures and, assistance with resumes, cover letters, networking, etc. They will provide job leads where possible and even call employers on your behalf. In other words, you get very strong job search support which continues for six months after you've graduated. I recommend ACES's programs without hesitation, to any one wanting to get a new start or to upgrade their skills set. The only thing I found lacking in the program (hence four stars) was social/digital media but I was recently told that adding this to the program is in the works. I will also add, this school has a distinctly no-pressure vibe which of course comes down from an ace staff! I have have some other courses I want to take there and happily, they offer them part-time in the evenings. ~MJ
