Rohr Park
Anthony P.

I have always came to Rohr Park just to walk around in the past but never made a review. I came today to have my bulldog stretch her legs and run around. It was pretty quiet and not too many people around 10am this morning.

This park has everything you could want and more: Trees! Open space! Ducks! Mini Trains! Gated dog park Running/walking trail (3.5 miles approx) Exercise stations Baseball fields Soccer fields Picnic areas Gazebos Restrooms Basketball courts Horse rounds Plenty of parking Near/adjacent to the golf course, library, and police station Did I miss anything? My only complaints would be that this place can be crowded on weekends and certain times of the day, and some dog walkers leave their dog's "presents" on the path for you to dodge (or step on if you're unlucky).

Been going to this park since I was in high school .... the 3.1 mi dirt path that circumference the golf course is popular for jogging/walking your 5K. Sometimes you'll see ppl walking their dog or horses. There is also a dog park and 2 large updated playgrounds for tots and older kids. They have a basketball court and baseball field. There are often soccer clubs that practice here. Plenty of eating areas with cover for your parties Most importantly it is clean and SAFE for your little ones to run and play.

Great park to take your children or have parties. Nice landscape and clean bathrooms. It includes a dog park as well with a fenced area. A great place to take your dog for a walk. There is a 3.3 mile trail around the park that is great for biking, walking, jogging, or running. Highly recommended!

I run with my pup here and visit the dog park. This park is HUGE! There is a small train that goes through during summer (I don't know if it still is with this whole COVID thing). There are soft ball fields, multiple playgrounds, LOTS of grass, a trail, pavement trail, and a workout area! The dog park even has a playground, cute water fountain, and it's ALL grass!

KJ L.

New playground installed at Rohr park for children ages 5-12 is amazing! Focuses on youth fitness, and a floor is lava style obstacle course. If you'd kids are adventurous risk takers let them come here and explore the many ways to navigate the areas! Parents don't be shy to take your turn on the zip line Don't forget to fill out the survey on the sign and provide your feedback to the city if you want to see more parks like this near you!

This park is filled with so many attractions for both kids and adults to enjoy. There's a golf course, trails, horses ring, tennis, baseball, picnic area, Province House rental property for events, and ton of Gazebos available to rent for parties. I spent majority of my time at the new green playground filled with plenty of obstacle course and fitness for kids. A ton of people come to the park and it's very safe environment. There's also a new dog park located by playground #1. Lots of fun to enjoy as a family at all levels. Highly recommend this park.

Cardio UGH right?! Wrong!! Rohr park is one of the best places for a great 3 mile walk, jog or run. The track surrounds a golf course which makes it impossible for you to cheat yourself. Meaning, when you start the track you must finish it... technically you can stop and turn around but what's the point when you're already halfway! :) The track is filled with friendly people walking their pups, kids on bikes, and even people riding horses. Despite all the traffic the track itself is always super clean! I've yet to see trash on the track or animal feces anywhere on the track. I do recommend wearing your oldest running shoes or shoes you don't mind getting dirty and at times a bit muddy. The track is all dirt and sandy therefore your shoes will get dirty! There's also plenty of parking everywhere, ducks and birds to see as you get in a great work out in the fresh air.

--Unless you puke, faint, or die, KEEP GOING- Jillian Michaels --People often say that Motivation doesn't last, Well neither does bathing. thats why we recommend it daily- from brainy quotes. -- I came here yesterday for a good to walk & jog. And Chill. Thanks to "motivation" again and my Fitbit and Hoka shoes. I hit my 21K steps finally = 10K steps from here and 11K steps from my treadmill Walked about 10 miles? not too bad! at least no more lazy ass for me. My Fitbit friends and challenges are my Inspiration. Well, I have been lazy for the last 2-3 years not exercising and eating right. Yeah right I'm a big foodie Miss Yelp Elite! I used to walk and run here few years ago with my daughter and some friends but sometimes Life is a challenge you work and get busy with your life and you forget about yourself when you have stress and toxic work environment. yikes! But I'm glad I'm back on my feet again. Taking myself a break less stress. Thank God, Namaste :) Had fun just walking by myself took photos, feeding da ducks, watching people walk in all ages, a Dog friendly park. There are also nice restaurants in the neighborhood like the TJ Oyster (Yum) and the Romesco (yum) and Thai Taste 2 (yum) on the Bonita Road. Overall, I love the walking Trail - 3.3 mile dirt trail. it's a fave spot for runners, joggers, walkers. It gives you a good mood and motivation and enjoy walking with the beautiful scenery, big shady trees. Good vibes! Great place for the whole family, birthday parties and stuff as there are tons of open fields and big gazebos. They also have a model train rides and local gold course.and equestrian ring. Highly recommend. Plenty of parking. This place has everything but you watch out for horseshit when you run the big loop! LOL!

Ask the Community - Rohr Park

How early can a person use the trail? I go into work at 6:00am and would like to jog before work. Is it possible to use the trail around 4:30am?

You can use the trail that early, but the gates are closed to vehicles until 6 a.m. There is street parking along Bonita Rd., or you can park at one of the shopping malls along Bonita Rd as well.

Are there any public restrooms?

yes, there are some close to the basketball court

Do anyone know if there are outlets there?

I know the lots are closed before 6am, but can I still walk in the park?

Yes!

Does anyone know if there's the running trail is lit at night?

No, the main running trail has little to no lightning as it curves around the golf course in some remote areas. There is scattered light here and there, but nothing consistent in that about 3 mile loop.

Is there a basketball court?

Yes there is. Two courts.

When you approach this area, you can easily be misdirected to the county regional park. To avoid this before you go up the hill to the entrance of the county regional park make a right into the driveway that shows the Sweetwater Reservoir. Once you get in there, you will go along a long dirt road to a parking lot that is eventually located next to the Reservoir fishing area. It is a beautiful trail and it's wonderful to be able to walk around the water and see ducks and birds and other wildlife as well as beautiful plants like Manzanita and chaparral. It is a wonderful trail hike, with beautiful and refreshing wind and sunshine. They have Porta potties that are super clean and well-maintained. I would say the porta potties are about a half a mile apart. They also have a bench with an overlook platform along the trail, and everything that we encountered seem to be very clean and well maintained. We will definitely visit this place again and it is definitely a wonderful place to hike. We were able to get out and started to explore the trail and after about 15 minutes, we realized that there was a Ranger honking at us with his siren coming around the bend. He made his way up to us in his truck and indicated that he would be closing the gate to the park in the next five minutes. We told him that we were told by the Park Ranger at the SD County Park check in booth that this trail closes at 8 PM tonight. He then said that we were not the only family to tell him that but that the Sweetwater Reservoir Trail Park actually closes at 5 PM because it's not a part of the SD County Regional Parks; they close at 8p. We rushed back to our vehicle, which was about a mile and a half away and we were able to get in and leave. We were very lucky that this Park Ranger decided to wait for us because we would've been locked into four or five gates and not able to actually get out of the park, even to get an Uber. This was great to understand and know so that when we go next time, we'll go a lot earlier before 5 PM.

I was worried about the heat, but the indoor area was very well air conditioned. The outdoor ceremony by the lake was also surprisingly pleasant and made for a gorgeous backdrop. I will write this review in the form of tips:…read more Check in and Costs Check in is at 2 p.m., and show up early because there will be a line. Check out is at noon -- and people are prompt! Which is good, because the staff will be driving by and cleaning up ready for check in. Costs are very reasonable at about $40-$45 per night, and most sites allow up to 8 people and two cars (there is overflow parking available, about $5 for each additional car). The splash pad is open May 1 through Sept. 30 and costs $3 for the day (for those aged 1-17). You can buy a season pass for $30 per person if you plan to come more often. Bugs and Things Yes, there are a ton of ants, snails and birds here, and I heard coyotes in the campground at night. So plan accordingly. I was surprised by the number of people without campground discipline. Open drink and food containers for hours. Messy areas with trash floating in their campsites. Wide open tents. Make sure you are keeping your campsite clean. There were several tracks of ants marching through out site and also birds in the wings the entire 3-day trip for us, and we never had a problem with the insects or wildlife by keeping everything tidy and organized. Sites The campground is split into three main sections with just over 100 sites: the upper loops, with 1) one section of exposed full hookup sites and a 2) back section closer to the lake but with no lake view with full hookup sites that have a bit more vegetation, and the 3) lower loop with water and electric at most sites, which is more popular among tent campers, large groups and those with horses (there is an actual equestrian camping section in the campground. Each site has a fire ring with a grill attached along with a table. Site lengths for RVs appear to be mostly around 30' and 32' from what I have seen (but they do have some as small as 20' and as large as nearly 50'), with electric boxes (20/30/50 amps -- awesome!). And pets are allowed ($2 per)! Saw lots of well behaved pups throughout my stay. And I so appreciate that they allow tents at the hookup sites. It's always a treat to have access to water and electricity while tent camping. I found several of the lower loop sites to be far more spacious than the upper link but, still, you are crammed in and there is not a level of privacy to be expected. During my day and previous visit, the site is kept very clean by the staff and hosts. That's part of the reason I prioritized a stay. Some of the visitors however (just some) have absolutely no camping etiquette, unfortunately. Until those trees mature in the upper loop, you are going to want the lower loop if you want shade. Even then, bring a canopy, because the outer side sites, with the views, get HOT. Even on the cooler spring days. Bathroom Situation Upper and lower loop bathrooms all have showers, and you have to get the tokens at the check in kiosk (and get them before 6 p.m.). Overall, I found that the team on site keeps everything as clean as possible. But by late afternoon, it often happened in the lower loop that there was trash and some little puddles all over the floor and stalls out of toilet paper. I visited the upper loop restrooms a couple of times -- for those reasons -- and they were far more pristine and also more specious. Instead of single stalls, each bathroom has a restroom space and a shower space behind one locked door. You can fit a whole family in there, which is super helpful if you are a family and need to all get ready at once. Also, most everyone in the upper loop has an RV (lower loop is more popular with tent campers), so it makes sense that the upper loop bathrooms are cleaner overall. You can buy wood on site at the check in kiosk (buy it before 6 p.m.). About $6 per bundle, and you get about 7-6 nice pieces of wood of varying sizes. One bundle was ample enough for 5+hours of a nice fire. But, and this was surprising to me, you cannot burn a fire after 11 a.m. Location, Activities The campground is in Bonita, about 30 minutes away from San Diego's downtown and coast. Unfortunately, no ocean views here. I take it that many people come here wanting a more remote get away, while still being able to access what San Diego has to offer. On site, there is a whole park for kids, with a splash pad/water features that are open during the summer months. There is also a large grassy day area ideal for parties and picnics. You can also rent out the pavilion, which is near the amphitheater and in the upper loop. It has a kitchen and a large community room where there have been birthdays, showers and receptions. Then there is the nearby reservoir, which is popular for mild walks and fishing, but absolutely no swimming or water contact allowed. Other Apparently, they allow vendors on site -- for parties and other activities. For a cost, you can have a DJ, live music, pony rides, bounce houses. This all appears to be more geared toward summer activities.

Loved our stay here. Clean large campsite in upper area with nice valley view. Quiet with nice…read morevegetation that provided adequate privacy. Grocery stores and post office close by.
