Walked in with a friend. Both of us were dumbstruck by the sheer amount of selection. Draped from the ceiling, thrown over a chair, rolled away and lining the aisles were yards and yards of fabric. Overwhelming, yes. But we were on a mission. We had to pick out the perfect fabric to go with our bridesmaids' dresses. Armed with samples and a more fabric-savvy friend, we inquired for the Thai silk aisle. The staff was kind and indulged our finickiness as we tried to describe what we wanted and what we wanted to do with it. I was sent to Rokko by a friend (a fabulously loud, fabulously stylish and very Jewish gay friend, no less) - girlfriend, I was told, you need fabric? Don't spend the kind of money you're spending. Go to Rokko. They have everything you need, and they're cheap! Who was I to argue? And - it's true. Crazy selection and the nice thing is they have BOTH discount type fabrics and really (really really) nice fabric, too. It's hard to dig through everything but it's worth it. My favourite find? Ruffle butt stretch material in red, purple, and black (I couldn't pick just one). The stuff comes in a tube and makes an instant mini skirt (well, for halloween it did) along with a billion crafty uses. Ruffle butt material! So fluffy and ridiculous! The staff is also fantastic - in addition to the endless options in store, I mentioned I was a crafter and the owner started pulling out books upon books of fancy modern cotton prints they could bring in with 5-10 yard minimums. I hit the web and discovered that even ordering online I couldn't beat their prices (or in some case, get similarly low minimums) on much of what he showed me. Score. LOVE. THIS. PLACE. read more

Contrary to popular opinion, I think that this store is well organized - it just isn't very well displayed, due to the lack of space to accommodate the massive amount of fabric for sale. There is a great selection of silks: raw, brocade, charmuse, etc; some quality jerseys, cheap cottons, and of course saree fabrics. They also have a section of fabrics for drapery and home decor. Sassy Sarees R Us! This gigantic showroom has 6,500 SQFT of fabrics in lush colours and designs, mostly from Indian inspired designs. Spread all over the store, the fabric could probably cover the Taj Mahal. They have ready-twear clothes as well, but the be-jewelled sarees are the prettiest. I can't believe the colours and selection here. As a wholesaler, it's also very affordable so it won't break the bank and allows room to make mistake in your design adventures. read more

Stopped by Rokko Sarees and Fabrics since I was in the area and didn't have time to go to my usual fabric store. A salesperson greeted me right away and helped me find a durable fabric for my project. I found the fabric but I didn't need an entire meter, however, I was firmly told that the minimum cut for all fabric was one meter. So I agreed to a meter. She asked me if I needed anything else and I mentioned that I needed a different fabric for another project but I didn't need a meter so I wouldn't get the fabric. Then she said, "Okay, I'll let you only get half a meter." I still didn't need half a meter but it was odd that that was the new minimum. As I'm waiting to get my fabric cut, the salesperson was trying to sell me sarees, scarves, and other items. The entire experience in this store was completely different from any other fabric store I've been to. I've never been told the minimum was ever more than .2 of a meter, no one has ever tried to sell me random items, and the prices are usually on the fabric so you're not SURPRISED as I checkout. If you're looking for a saree or decorative fabric and have a large budget, this could be the place. If you're looking for solid fabric at a good price and an easygoing experience then go someplace else. read more

Now, Rokko's does sell mostly just fabrics and some patterns; if you need notions, fancy trims or other decorative bits you will need to source those elsewhere, but Rokko's prices on fabric and their selection are just fantastic! ... velvets, brocades, and silks, oh my!! And great stretch fabrics, and upholstery too, I could go on... I visited this icon of fashion fabrics in Little India for supplies to make a bellydance costume - a gorgeous teal velvet, enough for a bra and belt. $25 later (and with a smile on my face as the staff are so nice and helpful) I was on my happy way! read more

There is nothing nicer than going to a store and feeling welcome. You laugh because it sounds silly. I can hear you saying to yourself "You're spending money there, of course they'll make you feel welcome" but alas my loves this is not the case. Not the case at all. Walk into another store (whose name rhymes with mess-you) and you'll be treated with indifference if not outright disdain. I've been shopping for years, am very friendly and converstational, yet each time I go to that other store I mentioned they treat me like I'm literally in the process of stealing from them. Not a very nice place to be. Rokko is cheaper friendlier, has better business hours, and doesn't require membership like a lot of the other fabric stores do. I'd rather make the trip out here to buy fabric instead of shopping online, and that is saying something! read more

Have been shopping on and off at Rokko for years (depending on how into sewing I happen to be at a given time). This weekend, however, I went to Rokko for a different reason. After finding and falling in love with a ridiculously expensive wedding gown, I was committed to having one made, hopefully at a fraction of the price. I went to Rokko on Saturday with my mom, sister, and photos in tow. We were (SO LUCKILY) met at the door by "Jas2" , one of the brothers who help run the store. Jas2 was amazing. I showed him my photos and he IMMEDIATELY picked out the most perfect Chantilly Lace, Silk Chiffon, Silk Charmeuse and Silk Dupioni I have ever seen. Not only did he pick out beautiful fabrics individually, he took me outside to show me how they would look together in natural light. The prices on the lace and silks were hard to beat, despite being "designer quality". Jas was helpful and knowledgeable and special ordered the silk charmeuse for us so it would be the correct dye lot. He even referred me to Loanna of Lilliane's Bridal (reviewed HIGHLY on yelp) at 145 Broadway to make my dress. After meeting with Loana at Lilliane's, I can fairly say that any and all projects in the future will be done with the help of these two establishments. read more

This store maintains the strangest disorganization. Think how a store must look when it closes after a Boxing Day sale. Well, that's about the state of things I've only ever seen at Rokko. Some of the fabrics are incredibly beautiful. But there is fabric everywhere: shelves, tables, and even the floor. And there's fabric on top of the fabric. All in all it requires expert negotiation to navigate. More than I have patience for. And fabric on the floor? That makes me feel like I'm an army cadet who just let the national flag touch the ground. As for the useful information portion of this review: Rokko does offer a great diversity in special fabrics, fabulous saree fabrics, and embroidery with a mix of your old-Joe cottons, polys, and knits. I didn't see much in terms of sewing supplies (although they'd be silly not to have needles and thread stashed somewhere), so be advised Rokko is primarily a fabric store above all else. There were well-priced bolts on my last visit, and a good sale section. I didn't interact with the sales staff and can't comment on the service. In the near future I won't return to Rokko. It just feels sacrilegious. read more

The selection here is incredible, especially for colourful fabrics. A little hard to navigate, but the staff is more than happy to guide you around and help you find what you need. I found identical fabric to one I saw at Fabricland, a heavy crepe satin. $15 a meter at Fabricland vs $8 at Rokko. BUT at Fabricland, you will get 20-40% off as a member, AND they have better cutting minimums, so depending on your needs, Rokko might not be cheaper. I had to buy 1 meter minimums when I only needed 0.5, so it was actually more expensive for me at Rokko, but I was too lazy to drive the additional 10 minutes to Fabricland, so that's on me. Now I know where to get some decent fleece blanket sets for sports teams: $60 for most NHL hockey teams, plus football too. Also saw Playboy with the zebra pattern if that suits your fancy. right off the bat, the worker offered me $10 off ;) Rest of the store, I have to admire the beauty of Indian sarees, with the crystals, gold-like designs, etc. ranging from $200-$600, from what I saw, i'm sure it can go even higher, but very very pretty ;) Unfortunately, i also saw a Hello Kitty blanket hanging in the front too. read more

Even for someone that does not sew, you can find something here.. Very colourful fabrics at very reasonable price. I bought chiffon with sequins already sewn on for under $10 for 3 meters, makes a dramatic shawl for evening. Some ready made scarves, and belly dancing scarves for $10. They have bigger size for fuller bodies. Come take a look, gives you tons of ideas for evening wear or dressing up your LBD. read more

I went to Rokko sarees in search for material for my wedding reception gown. I found a swatch that I liked but the material had to be ordered. Over the course of three months I was given the run around - I was told the material had been ordered, that it was arriving in two weeks, that it hadn't arrived , then told again it had been ordered, that it was coming in a week and AGAIN that it wasn't coming in the shipment. Talk about bad customer service and poor business management - I was dealing with the business owner!! I spent my time, energy and gas driving to Vancouver and calling the store repeatedly, all for nothing. We used to really like coming here. I didn't realize that this was only because we've never had to request a change or had to interact with the staff for customer service. We bought a yard length of 3 fabrics yesterday and took them home. When we measured the 3 fabrics, we found that the staff member had generously given us a little extra material on one of the fabrics (velcro), which we appreciated. However, on measuring one of the other two pieces, we found that one piece measured less than a yard. We called to ask, politely, if we could bring the material back in to get the correct measurement for the shorter fabric, expecting the experience to be relatively painless considering the entire transaction was for $1.49! Instead, the person who picked up the phone was instantly incensed by the request, rudely accused us of cutting the cloth short and attempting to rip off the store (!!) and then proceeded to hang up on us mid-sentence. Needless to say, will NOT be shopping here again. read more

This place may have the cheapest fabric, but they have the WORST customer service I have ever experienced in my entire life. My shipment has still not arrived and it was ordered 8 months ago - I've had to follow up more times than I can even count about this. They charged my credit card without permission and I have had to contact them over 7 times in one and a half weeks just to get them to give me a receipt for the charge. Worst customer service ever. Plus, they may sell you low quality fabrics. Bought some fabrics to make a bed cover, black with golden flowers. Customer service rep said it is washable in cold water. I washed it the very same day and guess what? it lost color, golden flowers just disappeared, and the whole thing was a total mess. I washed some other black things together with the fabric - all of them were in golden powder and covered with stains! I returned to Rokko to ask for a refund. They eventually did provide a refund but never apologized, and even blamed me that I "washed it in a wrong way". The lady claimed that they sold lots of similar fabrics and there were no complaints. So, I am kind of picky customer, right? Thanks so much. A place to avoid by all means. read more

Great fabric store! Yes it is a bit chaotic with bolts of fabric everywhere but with the hundreds of different fabrics they carry you would need a warehouse to display them all neatly. I was looking for linen and was taken to that section very quickly by a most courteous gentleman. The customer service was excellent and they can tell you anything you need to know about fabrics. If they don't have it they will show you sample cards and order it in for you. J read more

If you are looking for silk or a fine imitation silk in Vancouver you definitely have to go to Rokkos. They have really beautiful quality organzas, chiffons in a million colours, and a wide variety of raw silk fabrics. However if you are looking for wools or cottons etc, you probably wont find it. The store does appear overwhelming/crowded, but the staff know where everything is and are very willing to help you. read more

I go here for the silks. The silk dupioni selection is the best I've seen in Vancouver and at the best price. The lighting is good and the fabric prices make the trip well worth it. This company's behavior borders on criminal. 3 months ago my wife bought $200 of linen which they had to order in. She waited the 4 weeks they quotes, heard nothing, called, they claimed they lost the order but would order it then. Another 4 weeks go by and nothing. Several emails later and numerous phone calls and they still haven't delivered the product but they have no problem keeping the money. This company has poor service, poor record keeping and you should look elsewhere when buying fabric. read more
