My brother had lessons with Roland's 5 years ago. I asked the Insructor to seat I'm back seat the lady says no. On his second lesson Roland came . I asked if I can seat in the back. He said yes , but I didn't have to talk nor intervene. I was just eleven by the time. A week ago was my time to do it. I had Lisa on the first lesson ( French girl). She was cool and chill. Second and third lesson Roland came . He took me to Chevy Chase canyon for turns . Next lesson he helped me with pull over and parallel parking . Last hour he did the the pre testing . Today I got my license with only 3 minor mistakes . His voice is still in my head of what to do and why. I completely will recommend them to my friends. Thank you guys. Just yikes. Saw the good reviews about this place and had checked out their website. I had wanted to ask a question so I contacted them via phone. Right when I heard the rings, I immediately get a text saying "Can I call you later" from who I'm assuming is the guy named Roland. I said that is fine and also texted that I just had a question about their rates. Few hours later no call. I called them again and no answer. UPDATE: instead of apologizing the owner of this school replied with a comment telling me they lost my phone number which I included in written form for them SEVERAL TIMES and that's why they couldn't pick me up for my driving lesson like what was planned, then told me I should go to church since I was a "fake customer" Honestly idk how this "business" has been able to stay open with this terrible kind of unprofessionalism. WORST experience with any company I've EVER had. Made an appointment with them over the phone and they never told me who would be teaching me or even how to pay. I had an amazing learning experience with Roland; I got my learner's permit in November and I was able to get my license by June the next year on my first try! :) The lessons are very easy to schedule; when I had just gotten my learner's permit, my mother had signed me up for 2 hours of instruction every Sunday morning. I was able to complete the mandatory 6 hours of driving instruction within three weeks. About six months later, I scheduled a behind-the-wheel test and set two more appointments with Roland before my actual test. I simply called him and we easily reached a consensus on a time and date! On the day of my test, he even took me to the DMV branch that I was scheduled in, and allowed me to take the test using the Driving School's car. (It also makes the test evaluator feel safer with the gas and break pedals on the passenger side, as well :P) As for the lessons themselves, Roland is a very kind and easy to talk to. I live towards the Monrovia area, so typically, we take the freeway towards Glendale. He is DEFINITELY more calm and patient with my driving than my parents are :D After more practicing with Roland, my parents were excited to see dramatic improvement in my driving in such a short amount of time! Overall, my experience with Roland's Driving School has been great! I am now happily licensed and free from always asking others for rides to places :D I would definitely recommend this driving school to another friend! Wow, what a fantastic driving school! I came in not knowing anything about driving, needing to get my permit and license in a mere 2 weeks before going back to university. And guess what, I just passed and am off to my flight!! I am thoroughly impressed by the caliber of instructors, especially with Lina and Roland. I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD PASS MY DRIVING TEST. Thank you, Roland! Keep in mind, I've taken driving lessons with other companies in the area who have wasted my time and money (Chase Driving School, I'm looking at you). I've failed the behind-the-wheel exam after their "lessons" too. I thought I would take a chance with Roland's school after seeing all the great reviews and I swear, their 5 star rating is well-deserved. The other school I used, we'd just aimlessly drive around and the instructor never took the time to really teach me the rules of the road. I never felt confident in my ability because of it. Then came Roland's. What a difference! Started off my 6-hour lessons with Nick who is such a calm instructor that he truly made me feel at ease. Within 5 minutes, he had me driving on the freeway because he was able to quickly gauge my skill level + comfort. I also drove with Lina who is just as calm and as sweet as Nick. I learned so much from her and she made me feel super confident since we drove the DMV route a few times. Super fun people, too. Definitely recommend either of them. I met Roland himself at the DMV since he was taking another student for her test while I was with Lina and you can definitely tell that his company is a FAMILY. The way Lina and Roland interacted was awesome. You can tell he really takes care of his employees. Communication with Roland was super easy as well. Definitely wouldn't have passed without you guys ! They pick you up and drop you off . My instructor was Roland himself . I called in the morning and he was able to fit me into his schedule . Very friendly and had a lot of funny stories to tell so it made me less nervous . His instructions were very clear and he told me everything I needed to know to pass the test . We went through the routes that I'd be going driving through for the test itself . He even scheduled a test for me 4 days later so I didn't have to wait 20 ! I didn't have a car to use for the test so he also allowed me to use his . Picked me up the morning of and he knew his way around the dmv(which I dread) and made the experience fairly easy . We went through the routes two more times prior to and he told me everything they would be looking for . I wouldn't have passed without him ! This driving school is the best in the area. The instructors are very knowledgeable and care about their students especially the owner, Roland.I am a beginner and have tried a few different instructors. Roland really helped me overcome my driving anxiety and helped improve my confidence. I drove around 12 hours with him which greatly improved my driving ability and I passed my driving test in my first attempt! Roland talked a lot during my lesson, but a lot of it was vague or general directions about relaxing on the road. I really think that more specific feedback, particularly clear directions and corrections would have been helpful. When he did give me feedback or directions it was often in the middle of a lot of general chat, which made it hard to focus on the important information. My lesson felt more like a supervised drive than a lesson. I kept asking specific questions about speed limits, stopping points, distance from the curb etc. but I felt like I had to seek this information and feedback, rather than having a teacher give me this instruction. read more

The instructors know if you are ready or not for the driving test. They are very patient and helpful but also don't make the lessons boring. As I never driven before in my life, they could sense my attitude while driving and even took me on the freeway a few times. They will make your child or even you feel prepared in any circumstances while driving. Also I recommend to do the driving test package, they picked me up an hour before my test. They knew the route of the test and we drove it a few times and they brought up any errors I was doing. ( if you were wondering I did the 10 hour package and the driving test package but I did do a test drive with them before buying anything to make sure I was comfortable with them. OMG, I am so angry! I do not even know how to do a yelp review, I think I send a 1 page review to to somebody wrong, trying to calm down my anger with words.I scheduled a apt for a driving lesson over the phone for today at 10:30am asking specifically to be with Caren. Roland (I suppose) confirmed the apt and told me when I asked if I should call on Friday to confirm, that will not need to do that. On Saturday 10:30 nobody shows and I call Caren. She tells me she was in her way to another student. After multiple attempts I talk to Roland and he tells me that he has been trying all morning to schedule with Lina but she has not replied. Yet nobody called me to tell that the lesson is cancelled! I have no words for this behavior! And it is not my first experience either, I have called him so many times and been told that I will be called back and never received a call back. I am more upset with myself for attempting to be understanding in multiple occasions when the flags were very obvious, but I just cannot wrap my head around that this is the behavior of a person doing business! read more

Let me get straight to the point: It was terrible. My instructor was Caren and the whole time she kept using her accelerator and brakes instead of telling me to "speed up" or "slow down". Instead of using them for when I was in control, she could've used them when I made mistakes. For instance, I'd driven through an intersection on a yellow light. The car in front of me just stopped for a red light (I thought there would be room for me to fit) and I ended up blocking the entrance to a freeway. She didn't stop me, instead just said "You could've waited". Also, she told me if I were to pass the driving test, I had to let go of the steering wheel after I turn. I didn't feel comfortable with it and asked her questions to which she responded with "It takes practice". When she tried to make a conversation (I'm assuming to calm me down) she kept prying into my personal life instead of teaching me what to do on the road. I didn't like these 2 hours AT ALL but at least she showed up on time. Still don't recommend this driving school. At this point, I don't even want to drive anymore. P.S. the car (hybrid) was hard to work with too. read more

This is my first time to write a review here in yelp. I have to review this driving school. I failed 3x on test behind the wheel and retake my permit. I have to pass my next behind the wheel test so I took a driving lesson. I never regret taking a lesson with them, all money was worth it. I finally passed and got my license! I couldn't be happier! What's cool about them too is they can schedule you any time even on short notice to go for the test. I texted him Wednesday night to ask if I can have my test on Friday or next week and in less than 10mins he already sent me the confirmation for my appointment and in that Friday I had my test. My two sons have used Roland's for their driving hours practice. They both enjoyed having different types of cars to drive and the different routes they were driving in too. The last instructor, Edgar, was great with my son and went through all strengths and weaknesses of his skills. I had taken my six necessary hours as a minor with Karen and she was calm and taught me the necessary tips to put me at ease. This was my first time behind the wheel. A few months later, I had another four hours with Roland and I had scheduled my test at the DMV. I do not have a car and so I used their driving school car to take my driving test. In comparison with other local driving schools, their price is the most affordable. Roland and Karen are both excellent teachers and I could see enormous improvement in my comfort level of my driving ability. I managed to pass my test under their care! In this case I was truly blown away with the professionalism, great service, and comfortability I have experienced with Roland's driving school. Given that I was a nervous wreck behind the wheel. Nick who works with Roland driving school was my instructor he truly was the most calm, reliant, educated, and relaxed instructor I've ever been with. Without him I wouldn't have passed my drivers test at Dmv. They even provided me with their vehicle to take the test with, yes of course I had to pay extra for that but they truly stayed by my side as if they were family. I had the privilege of being taught by three of the school's instructors. Caren, my first ever driving instructor, was wonderful! Caren is very calm and patient. She gave me very practical, no nonsense advice and has a very tranquil presence, that would make even the most nervous student feel at ease. Lina, the next instructor I drove with, is also so great! Lina is very easy-going with a very nurturing and lighthearted personality. I could tell that she is very invested in the success of her students. She, too, gave me very good practical driving tips. She has a very logical and organized way of communicating these tips to students. Finally, Roland's style of teaching is very thought-provoking and philosophical. I always felt that the the advice he gave me applied to more than just driving, but also life as well. While he has been a driving instructor for over 25 years, It is very obvious that he still loves what he does and is passionate about teaching. Roland's fun-loving and has a hilarious personality that put me at ease, making it so I was able to laugh while I learned. I liked getting the different tips and perspectives from the instructors. It made for a very well rounded driving education. While all the institutor's have different styles, they are all extremely competent and great at teaching. I am happy to say, that with the help these wonderful instructors at Roland's Driving School; I am now a licensed driver! After 12 hours of instruction (6 lessons), I felt so confident taking my behind-the-wheel driving test. I passed the driving test in 10 hours at $500 for this school's help. They were professional, calm and friendly. They taught me not only things that I need to pass the test but also things I would need to know after the test: freeway driving, parallel parking, etc. They have 2, 6 and 10 hours courses ($90/240/380) for different levels of students, which I suppose is the lowest price rate around here. They observed my condition and discussed to determine the most appropriate package for me. I passed the test in the exact range of time that they had expected, so I didn't spend any extra tuition. I have never written a bad review before but felt compelled to do so after the way Roland and his company treated my mom. The first time we scheduled the appointment my mother spoke to Roland she asked if he would be the one to help her the first time because she was very nervous but when the driver showed up it was not Roland but another one of his colleagues. She was upset at first but ended up enjoying the lady who helped her and went with it still. After that she was optimistic about the school but it went downhill very quickly. Roland canceled the next 2 lessons (both AFTER he was supposed to pick my mom up and both via a TEXT message.) She scheduled her classes early in the morning so she woke up earlier, got dressed and ready just to be told there was not going to be a session that day. I found Roland on yelp and was excited for my mom to finally learn how to drive but if anything all Roland and his company did was discourage her even more and made her less motivated to get behind the wheel. Roland's driving school is wonderful. I had the opportunity of working with Roland and Nick, both male instructors, and it was amazing! Not only are the instructors very well trained, but they never make you feel like you're doing a bad job. They helped me improve my driving drastically in a short period of time! Roland's method of coaching is very helpful to people like me who are very high-anxiety prone. He speaks calmly, never raises his voice, and makes you feel very comfortable as you drive. He tells jokes, stories, and all the while adding little bits of vital feedback here and there to help you drive safer! Nick is very easy-going and friendly. He gives constructive criticism throughout your lesson and tries his best to help you with any mistakes you may make! He keeps you laughing, but isn't distracting. The cars they provide for the lessons are great as well. I loved working with the Prius; very safe and easy to drive! And it also helps that they have a secondary pair of a gas and break pedal on the passengers side of the car, so any time you need a little assistance, they're right there with you!
