I enjoyed eating and drinking at Roll Madrid. Roll is located in the Plaza de las Comendadoras. It's a great beer shop that features a large number of beers -- and not just Spanish ones. They also have a pretty nice selection of food. We ordered some beer, and a milk for my son. All of the staff were very nice. The BBQ burger I ordered came out with two patties. It was super tasty. We also ordered the kimchi croquettes and a green salad with jackfruit. All in all everything was great. read more

It was just ok. We were the only ones there at first (we reserved a table for a pretty early brunch). I was the very first to arrive and so I ordered coffee at the bar right when I got there before sitting down and got it promptly. The rest of the group showed up a few minutes later and while we were still the only ones in the restaurant, it still took 20 minutes for any of the waiters to come over to take drink orders. Things take a bit longer in Spain in restaurants and if it had been busy, I would not have been bothered. But as we were the only customers, we were a bit put off. Food-wise, it was hit or miss. My french toast was excellent (the strawberry sauce was just ok) and I did like the coffee. We got a mimosa jar and it was pretty generous with the alcohol which is always nice. One friend got fried chicken and waffles and enjoyed it immensely. However, another got the breakfast burrito. It came out stone cold, with unmelted cheese and in a wrap that also wasn't heated or toasted or anything. Essentially, not a breakfast burrito at all. They did heat it for her when she asked but by that point, it was already a bummer. read more

I've eaten at Roll often and don't have any complaints. The staff is extremely nice and laid back (many of them are ex-pats as well).. the brunch is good (steak and eggs and the chimichanga, delicious! The waffles and pancakes are just okay though), I've gone for lunch and dinner as well and was happy with the food. The locale is beautiful, and they have wifi if you want to go there to do work during an off-peak hour. The best part is it's never as obnoxiously packed as Federal, so it's a lot less stressful to get a table! read more

As a fan of Hoegaarden Beers, this is the first place we visited that actually had it fresh on tap. Food was still solid but this is more craft beer place i think that also has food. Came at 7pm so cant speak for the breakfast. read more

After a long morning walk exploring Madrid, I found this place by chance. I also happened to have been craving a brunch that was something else than tapas. The cozy and warm feel of the place is very welcoming. I ordered the brunch menu with a salmon toast as a starter and followed that up with the breakfast burrito. The burrito was particularly rich including guac, homefries, and eggs. The menu included coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. 16 euros may seem pricey when comparing to Spanish standards... However, it was definitely worth it in terms of both quality and quantity. One of my favorite meals in Madrid for sure! The friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere of the place also contributed to the overall experience. read more

There is a reason the restaurant across the way has a line and this place you can sit immediately. Started good, server was nice, drinks came out, ordered our food, then things went wrong. We were six people and five meals came out. We waited and waited, inquired, rebuffed, ultimately we had to ask another server to get our guests meal. The food came 15 minutes after everyone was done, no apologies they were trite and explained thats how we wanted it. I had been craving American brunch and found a pretty good one here! My friend and I shared the veggie omelette and strawberry pancakes. The omelette was so great!!! It was wonderfully light and fluffy and filled with peppers, onions and other veggies! After only being able to find fried eggs at restaurants, it was a welcomed change! The pancakes were good too! We had the cod + salmon sandwich and fruit salad for starters and huevos rancheros as main course. With this we got coffee and orange juice. The good: Friendly staff, quick service, the other courses (apart from the fruit salad) seemed to have really generous portions in general. The bad: The fruit salad we ordered from the starters menu felt REALLY under-sized compared to the other starters/courses. I'd planned to meet a friend at Federal, so I marched up to the terrace directly in front of it, sat down and ordered my coffee with confidence. Then I started to look around, noticed how the menus on the tables weren't exactly in keeping with the style of Federal, and began to doubt myself.... Eventually I found a small sign indicating that the terrace actually belongs to Roll, a café clean across the street. Strange, but I won't hold that against them. What I will hold against them, though, is that they had no nonfat milk, so they substituted with sickly-sweet soy milk. This isn't the biggest offense ever, and it certainly was pleasant place for a drink. Set well back from the street, they have good looking burgers and a full bar, juices etc. Also seemed to be quite an international crowd. read more

From the moment I walked in the restaurant I knew I'd like this place. I went for brunch but ended up eating lunch because the menu looked amazing. My friends and I ate the amazing chicken and waffles, the cheeseburger, and a side of mac and cheese. However, I have to say that besides the amazing food the service was above and beyond. My friends and I had an issue with a lost phone in the wall and the staff was nothing but understanding and helpful. Great food, great atmosphere, great service... I have been to this place once before on a Sunday afternoon after being told the toast cafe was too full. My friend and I had a great experience with a nice waiter. However my most recent trip to the restaurant was pretty awful. It was my birthday and I decided to book a table for my friends last weekend. A couple of my friends arrived on time, but I was 15 min late and my friends said they almost gave away the table. They put an awkward huge table in the middle of the restaurant which was adjacent to other tables/ aka people couldn't move their chairs etc. In typical Spanish fashion, it took the waiters over 15 minutes to acknowledge us at the table and bring menus. The waitress we had was super rude (more than usual in Madrid) she proceeded to tell us they didn't have orange juice and didnt have cava! What kind of brunch place doesn't have mimosas? I booked this place for my birthday because of the brunch and mimosas! What they gave us was some lemonade with mint in it but it was warm and the pieces of mint were so small and awkward to drink. After getting our first course, they didn't give us any silverware. We asked 3 different people for 10 min with our hot food on the table waiting for the damn forks and knives! My friend also asked for a glass of water at least 3 times. Honestly this place killed my birthday vibe with the rude waitress and lack of mimosas. Even though the food is amazing, I definitely won't be coming back. There are way better brunch options in Madrid. read more

As an American who lives in Madrid sometimes I am skeptical of restaurants that claim "American" food. However, I think I may have found a keeper in Roll Madrid, New American Kitchen. The menu caught my attention with Chicken and Waffles and Pulled Pork BBQ sandwiches for a fairly decent price. I was there for lunch and got the menu del dia, which was 10.90 (not a bad price in Madrid) and really really enjoyed my lunch. I had the red berry gazpacho w/a spoon of vanilla ice cream in the middle for my first plate and the second plate was grilled provolone cheese topped with a smoky enchilada type sauce and a green salad. It was sooooo good! I'm definitely going back with my husband and trying one of their sandwiches or maybe even the chicken and waffles. I would definitely recommend a visit. read more
