Returning to play on World Woods is something we enjoy whenever possible. Two beautiful public courses offer plenty of challenge for all golfers. The facility is well maintained with the exception of Club House. It has been voted many times in Top 100 course in US and Top 5 in Florida. There are two courses, Pine Barrens and Rolling Oaks with a short practice 9 holes. That is a total of 27 holes. There are many driving or practice area. You have no problem of finding a practice area. Ideally it is a nice place to take a 3-5 days' score improvement program here. For the two days we played, the greens are fast and undulating. The fairways are lush, fairly wide and ascetically pleasing with huge sand and or waste area. Yes, you can ground your club without problem here in the sand! The architecture of the course is simply impressive. Pine Barrens is my favorite of the two courses. Rolling Oaks was pretty good but not same level of difficulty. Although I did not lose a single ball for two days, you must play the "smart" shot and not to show off your swing skills. Be prepared to lower your expectation and move the tee forward! The staff are professional, accommodating in the Pro shop, Bag Drops and the restaurant. Rangers are friendly, monitoring the pace of play and not a distraction. Nevertheless, due to the large terrain, it took us 5 hours to finish the play! World Woods needs two improvements; Club House and GPS. Club House need improvement to provide better food for breakfast, lunch and possible dinner with more beer, wine and alcoholic beverage and some extensive hours. Now, the kitchen close at 3:00 PM! At best, it is a greasy spoon operation. If they have some hotel, lodging or resort amenities on site, this will become a top-notch or elite Golf Vacation Destination. Yes, GPS is extremely helpful to navigate through the challenging hills and trees. With some improvement, World Woods would be in league of Black Diamonds, Streamsong, Disney and PGA National. Woohoo! For a public course, it is a four and half stars! It is definitely a real gem and will return again and again! read more

This is a real gem that is underutilized, because of its rural location. Beautiful wooded location with rolling terrain and no houses anywhere on the course. Has sort of a North Carolina feel to it with all the tall pine trees. Pine Barrens is consistently ranked in the Top 100 courses in the US and Top 5 in Florida. There are two 18 hole courses (Rolling Oaks is the other one), a nine hole short course and the largest driving range you will ever see. The greens are fast and undulating. The clubhouse is modest but well stocked. The course was in excellent condition. Don't pass up a chance to play here. We were paired up with a club pro from Puerto Rico and his friend from Miami. Played Pine Barrens. So close to being a elite course but it's missing little details suck as a nicer clubhouse, cart GPS (I know most courses are going away from it), and weirdly no ball washers anywhere to be found. Top notch practice facility and very pretty course especially for Florida. Bring a beach umbrella cause there's a lot of sand! read more

Greens are worse than any public course I've ever played. Pace was 5.5 hours round. Saw the course manager only once riding and reviewing pace of play. $65 round, times two plus tax is unbelievable for a terrible course. We won't be back. read more

A little slice of public golf heaven awaits for you at World Wolds. Two beautiful 18 courses offer plenty of challenge for golfers of all levels. Pine Barrons is my favorite of the two courses. It's constantly voted as one of the best public courses in the country and after only a few holes it's easy to see why. The fairways are fairly wide, offering some forgiveness to most of us that can't keep our tee shots straight. The greens are tricky and at least the day I was there ran a lot faster than most other Florida greens that I have played. Although I didn't lose a single ball the day I was there ( a huge accomplishment for a 23 handicap!) playing the "smart" shot instead of trying to kill the ball will come in to play quite a bit. Be prepared to argue with your ego quite a bit! The facilities and staff are top notch as well. I've never seen such a big putting green in my life! A good place for a putting contest to see who buys the first round of drinks. The driving range is large enough that even on a busy day, you'll have no problem finding a spot to practice. I really appreciated how diligent the course "Rangers" were in patrolling the courses to make sure the proper rate of play was being followed. There's nothing worse than being stuck behind slow foursomes with no help in sight! A round seemed to be around $40 in prime hours during the summer, but there are some rounds for $18 ( what a steal!) around 2ish if you're willing to fight the heat. Pine Barrens is a fantastic layout. If you can keep it on the grass, and out of the woods or bunkers (and there are lots of them), you'll do well. Definitely top 25 of all courses I've played (and I've played a lot). Rolling Oaks was pretty good too, but not on the same level as Pine Barrens. read more

This is review is actually for Rolling Oaks but since I don't see a yelp page for it I'll just post on here. My buddy and I just played RO for $30 each, and I guarantee that you will not find a better course for that price. The course was in immaculate condition all the way from the tee boxes to the nicely rolling greens. I'm actually very surprised that it was only $30, what a steal. Only gripe I have is we got done at 5 and headed into the clubhouse to get some grub but they had already closed down the grill.....at 5....really? So other that that hiccup, I'll probably go back and hit up Pine Barrens soon because the conditions are so nice right now. Also, after reading a couple of the other reviews, I do feel that the course facilities could be SO much damn better. Redoing the clubhouse so it doesn't look like my grandfathers basement inside and then putting lodging on the premises would do wonders for that place. Could truly be a 5 star gem up in Brooksville. read more

(Pine barrens) I really enjoyed the layout of this course. It has serious potential, but I wish they would put a bit more money into it. Greens and fairways were in good shape, but the overall shape of the course was missing something. With the new highway going in nearby, this could be a 5star (resort, restaurant, golf course). Pine barrens is a solid 5 star track attached to a 2.5 star clubhouse. The course is in a very remote location so there's not much in the area to detract from your golfing experience. This course can stretch out to over 7000 yards and it meanders nicely through some very pretty landscapes. There is a lot of sand out here but most of it is waste area so you can ground the club. Some of the waste areas aren't as well maintained but there's so much of it it would be very difficult to get to everything every day with the amount of play out here. Tees are in very good shape except number 2 back tee, pretty thin there. Fairways are lush and early defined and ascetically very appealing. As I mentioned earlier some of the waste areas are not as well maintained but bunkers that are in play are. Greens were very very slow when we were there but they look so good you know they can speed them up very quickly when they have a tournament out here. Clubhouse is spartan, food isn't much to write home about, so we just have a snack and eat when we get back in town. The restrooms were not working at all so they have porta potties out back, hope they fix that soon. As I said earlier, the course is fantastic, you will hit every club in your bag out here, I'll always play at pine barrens, I just wish the total experience was better. read more

Pine Barrens (and, I assume, Rolling Oaks) is totally unlike the California golf courses I am used to. Dry and sandy fairways, brown greens that look dead, and tons of waste bunkers... but the layout is very good and also very challenging. We played a chilly day in March, and I can see where shade from the pine trees would be very welcome in the summer months. Some holes reminded me of Poppy Hills, others not so much. Overall, I'm glad I played, but I don't need to play it again. (And I agree with another reviewer who talked about the clubhouse and pro shop - looks more like a podunk muni set-up than a top-100 club's facility.) read more

I have enjoyed playing there in the past...not today. Crazy rude bag boy...He actually asked me if "I had a problem"...When I complained to the head pro, he could not have cared less. I played the short course and they said there were no carts available, though there were 45 out front. When I left the course early to come in from the heat and rain, there were still 40 carts out front. I will not be back any time soon. Too many good courses here in the Tampa Bay area...I don't do rude well. read more

It's a has-been, once-was type of course. We drove a couple of hours from near Lakeland to play and were disappointed with the golf course, from the clubhouse to the course. We came because of the reviews and recommendations of others who played the course years ago. You can definitely tell it was something much nicer back in the day. Positives: - pro shop was nice enough, nothing special - pro shop staff were polite and accommodating - Rangers on the course were helpful but not a distraction - greens in good shape, although quite slow - loved the 3 practice holes available before the round. - layout was interesting and challenging at times - plenty of restrooms/ shelter areas on the course - Negatives: - course boasts of a wonderful practice facility yet has no pitching green or bunkers to practice on. Not even close to many facilities in Florida. - waste areas/bunkers very inconsistent from fluffy sand to heavy dirt and some being compact - waste areas and around the course had too many branches and debris -clubhouse and restaurant very outdated - general course tidiness is not up to snuff for a course this highly rated My overall impression is that it could be much nicer with some tlc. They just don't have the polish/ professionalism/finish that warrants the high accolades that people are giving this course. The layout is nice enough to be really great IF more attention was paid to details. They take care of this course like a good municipal course. Not more. I believe that the people rating this course five stars lack perspective on what it means to be a five star facility. Black Diamond, Streamsong, Waterlefe, Disney, PGA are good examples of what it takes to be really good and worthy of high accolades. I don't want anyone to think I'm bashing the course. Pine Barron's is as good as golf gets. Period. Played in July and the course was in unbelievable condition. The facility has an huge range, two acre putting green and three practice holes. Clubhouse is weak but we went there for the golf. read more

I am a fan of the World Woods Golf Club. It's all about the golf here. The golf shop and 19th hole are okay but definitely not as good as it gets. They have two championship 18 hole golf courses, Rolling Oaks and Pine Barrens. Both courses have been on the 100 list, but not recently. The golf shop alone would probably only get two stars from me. I was really in the market for a fat visor, but their headwear selection was weak. All the facilities are outdated, but the golf courses make up for it. Even though they are not currently in the top 100, the courses are still really solid. It's worth a day trip from Orlando and I would recommend it to any avid golfer. read more

My name is Troy and I have been living in Florida for about 25 years now. I have played courses all over the US, Mexico and Canada. So I am familiar with a lot of courses and their services, etc. A few friends and myself decided to go to World Woods last month (January 2017) because all of our birthdays are just a couple of weeks apart and we have been making it an annual event to visit a nice course. We have all played World Woods several times. Long story short, we played the back tees. We are big hitters and like to play the entire course. At the first tee there was a group to go behind us and they were playing the white tees. We offered to let them go ahead and the starter/ranger would not allow it. Needless to say, they began to complain to the ranger within an hour or so of teeing off. The ranger confronted us several times during our round and make the entire experience very frustrating. We confronted the Pro, Scott Wyckoff, at the end of our round and told the story. He was not as understanding as you would expect and told us that maybe we shouldn't play the back tees. That maybe we were not good enough. He did send us a complimentary round so we decided to go back. We made a tee time and headed back. A 2 HOUR DRIVE UP THERE! Upon arrival, we were charged $50.00 each as the pro shop would not honor the complimentary round. The gentleman checking us in was very uncooperative, the clubhouse lady we tried to order snacks and drinks from we all very rude or standoffish. It's a nice course but when coming that far to play, paying above average prices, you are looking for the full experience. After this, the four of us have decided never to return and plan on spreading the word about our 2 experiences. Very disappointing and not worth going back. There are a lot of nice courses in Florida and they treat you they should. If customer service, attitude and being appreciated for your patronage is not important to you, then World Woods is for you. I've played here a few times. The shade from the trees is very nice to have when your out playing golf in the middle of August and temperature is above 100 plus Florida humidity. Anyone that has been playing golf for a while and played at numerous courses, knows that some of the courses with little to no shaded areas are treacherous during summer months!! So beyond the shade luxury, the course is nice, the condition is good and my colleagues and I are able to enjoy are time spent golfing with no distractions around. Friendly staff not to mention! Could be a beautiful setting for golf, but there appears to be very little course, facility, and ground maintenance implemented here. We had a group of eight playing in two foursomes. Our pace of play was about four hours and twenty minutes. The rangers would not leave us alone as they continued to threaten to take away holes if we did not speed it up- there was not a group within a hole of us. The clubhouse tried to change the price charged for three players in our group. When approached they tried to deny that they charged some of us a lesser price. Honesty goes a long ways with me. Will not return to play on our next trip. read more

The three stars are for the course. The overall experience isn't all it's cracked up to be if you are a golfer that is good and also enjoys the experience of golf with friends and family. Entire staff is rude, from the pro shop guy that won't check you in early for no apparent reason to the girls in the sub-par clubhouse (if you want to call it that) that won't give you a menu even though your standing at the counter to order from them so they don't have to walk all the way over to your table 10 feet away and they just seem put off by the fact that you want to spend money and tip them. I guess they enjoy their salaries more. Once you hit the course be prepared to play around drunk tourist on bachelor parties or something blasting music at top volume and screaming obnoxiously. Now I play with music when I'm with people that also don't mind it so it doesn't particularly bother me but I turn it down when I'm within earshot of other groups out of curtesy. Then be prepared for a ranger to be huddling over you and driving up in your backswing for three straight holes as he did to us until you finally lose your swing out of built up frustration due to him only to have him tell you to move along despite the fact that nobody is waiting on you. I assume it was to get us in before dark so the cart barn guy could go home. He is apparently more interested in that than all the drunk screaming frat guys blasting music. Staff sucks, other golfers are annoying but the course is great. I recommend trying a different world class course (which are everywhere in these parts) with a friendly staff and complementary range balls. This place brags about its practice facilities but doesn't give free range balls. Bush league all the way. read more

My expectation was that this was one of the top public courses in Florida. I was very unimpressed with the tract. It was nice, but unimpressive. What was extremely disappointing was the quality of the rental clubs. I had a group of 5 in town for business and we decided not to travel with our clubs. I play at a lot of nice courses around the country and if I'm only going to be playing once I would rather rent than drag my clubs along. At top courses, the rentals are a source of revenue charging in range of $40 and providing a nice set of Calloways, Titlelist or Pings. I was shocked when they brought out the 5 sets of rental clubs. You couldn't have found a worse collection of sticks at a garage sale. I'm not kidding. These were embarrassing! Mix matched, rusted, no grips, beat to hell, Goodwill rejects that I've ever seen. Even the starter commented that they were embarrassing. It ruined our experience. read more

The actual architecture of the course is impressive. The condition is extremely disappointing! Would actually give it a 2.5 if I could. Greens were terribly slow probably running around a 5 on the Pines and 6 on the Oaks. Definitely had gone down hill over the years! Wouldn't recommend making a weekend of playing here, there are much nicer resorts/courses in the state to spend your money at. It is a shame as it could be a gem if there was some pride taken on the upkeep of the course. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but after my experience I just would not recommend this place unless maybe you had your own set of clubs with you. This facility tauts itself as Florida's only 5 -star golf course. All I can say is if this is 5-stars what is 4 like? I have played great courses in Florida before but just cannot put this one up there. I know they do not control mother nature and I know Florida has had about a years worth of rain in just a couple of weeks, but still no excuse for not disclosing course conditions when you are making tee times. I still likely would have played even knowing one of the holes was shut down because they were still trying to recover the green. Which from what I could tell was probably completely under water for days...most of it was still yellow, but it was definitely coming back. Granted they offered us the option of playing the 3 practice/warm-up holes as a make up for missing out on the one hole which was closed down. Again, if they had told us about this up front they would have gotten more stars as part of my review. Next issue was club rental. I could not justify the hassle or expense of bringing my clubs with me to play just a single round of golf. After all I had found a 5-star facility, so my assumption is they would have a decent set of rental clubs. I was not looking for brand new equipment, but how about equipment made in the last 10 years!! or even a complete set of irons!! Yep, my father in-laws set did not have have a complete set of irons, it was missing a 5-iron. I have played in a bunch of other places and rented clubs in other places and NEVER had a been given clubs in such a poor state. The last place I rented clubs, they were actually brand new...again I do not expect brand new, but I would expect something decent. These clubs looked like something you would find at a garage sale for $5! If they want 5-stars they better wake up...I will forgive them for the course conditions as they had A LOT of run off due to the rains, but they customer service stuff I expect a heck of a LOT MORE! Sorry can't recommend this place...really disappointed!! read more
