This is a fun place and it was nice that it wasn't too crowded on a Saturday afternoon. Mask "requirement" was not enforced at all, but thankfully we could keep our distance pretty well. All ages were skating. My skate rentals were hard to get laced tight enough, and one of them had shorter laces so it couldn't get my ankles wrapped like I wanted, but I made do. Been 4 years since I've visited this rink.This was the spot back in the early 90's especially Sunday nights with Kirby Carmichael Skate and Dance ....Tonight was 18+ so no small children which was good since I hadn't skated in a while.The floor still has some very rough rigid areas that really needs to be redone,I almost fell going over those rigid areas .The music tonight was terrible,I felt like I was at a high school band session lol .I asked the deejay if he could play some "Real" Old school skateland music like Planet Rock and "Let the music play" by Shannon .......etc..... but he had no idea who I was talking about LOL .The atmosphere was okay but the floor and the music just really threw me left field . read more

Roller Dome always fills my heart with such joy. When I come roller skating it takes me back to a simpler time, when I was a Mid west girl going to the roller rink with my friends every week to skate and use our allowance money on slushies and pizza at the snack bar. I have become a regular on Wednesday nights, which is adult skate! For $6 from 7:30 - 11 you can get your roll bounce on and get nostalgic. I love that it's a mature, older crowd (18 and over only) so you don't have to worry about any shenanigans or melee. You seem the same faces pretty much every week and they are there to have a fun, carefree time and skate their cares away. The DJ is really good and normally does a good mix of old school, R&B, house, current hits and just great skating music. The later it gets the more crowded it gets, so get there early if you need a few laps to kick the dust off your skates or your bones. It can get tight on the rink floor around 9-10. There is a mix of professional to novice skaters but regardless of your skating expertise you will feel welcome. So pull out your skates and join in the fun! read more

If i could give it zero stars i would. This is the WORST service I have ever(never received). Two weeks ago I went to book a birthday party for my daughter and I was told by the attendant at the window that they were no longer accepting party package reservations but that I could set up myself the day of. I thought cool, save me some money and I can decorate how I want. When I get there not only were they not open on time but denied me entry because THEIR employee lied. Screaming at me tellin me that I'm holding up the line and I can come in but not having a party, but I need to get out the way. So 1st: it's a problem that I'm "holdin up your line" so u can be unprofessional, disrespectful, & yell at me but not that your employee lied so they didn't have to do any work and and you opened late (the real reason you had a line). 2nd: I couldn't care less who the "owner" is, if that is how you treat people who are trying to patronize your business, you don't deserve to have a business and I'm goin to let everyone know it. Roller dome is fun to go to if you want a little revisit to your childhood! Recently visited for a friends birthday, note to anyone going... wear as little clothes as possible! It's very hot in there and it gets crowded! Not sure if they don't always have air or it's just broken at the moment. They have a snack bar but, don't offer a ton of options so I'd recommend eating before the visit! The reason this place got 4 stars is due to the cost! Who can possibly beat skating for $9? I went here with my 2 young children on Saturday for a birthday of a family member. We arrived around 3:50pm and when we did the lady who sold me tickets never mentioned that there was a later shift that was approaching in an hour and I would have to add more money if my children decided they would want to continue to skate. I upgraded and paid more money for skate time. My kids are not the best skaters so I wanted to rent a skating assistant. There were about 4 of them already on the floors being utilized by other children so we could not rent one, but when other people left we were able to rent one. My kid stepped away and someone took his skate assist. The crowd started to turn "ugly" the later it got. By 6pm it was really crowded and police were inside. Even though the second skate shift has rules that you're supposed to skate... most people were just standing around. I figured it was time to leave because it was transitioning into a club. The music was mostly hip hop, the section that you trade skates in for your shoes was very slow. I must have called for someone 10x before I got a response. When we went to order something to drink, there were no tops for fountain soda which was really crazy to me considering that makes for an easy spill and it's a skating place. This place has improved tremendously.. The new owners have added more games and updated the rink.. My daughter and I had a blast skating, here.. But the one eye sore and complaint in the place is the bathrooms,!! The bathrooms are old, and very nasty.. No paper seat covers.. the bathroom look like they are outdated.. And the worse part is the sinks arent even in the bathroom.. They are out by the floor. Cant figure out why they are located there.. Its unfortunate cause the rest of the place is great. I can see that they have redone alot .. I sure hope they plan to fix those bathrooms soon. As far as the skating, the skates.. All of that seems great. The music was okay, there must be some standard list of somgs to be played at skating rinks because no matter what year it is, they seem to lay the same songs... I have only come here on fundraisers for my school, and it is always a good time. The DJ plays great music, the people at the front window are friendly, and the prices are very affordable. I am not sure what this is like on a normal night, but I highly recommend coming here. Places like this should be supported so they do not end up going under or being forgotten about. I am glad this place is located where it is, and that the people working and running it are very friendly and seem to know what they are doing. This place brings me unlimited joy every time I walk in. I wouldn't change a thing about it. It is so charming and nostalgic and such a great place to skate and spend time with friends. The arcade is good for a break, and the DJ is consistently great. Adult night on Wednesday's is always fun, and there is no shortage of great skaters to watch and be inspired by. The staff is friendly and I love their cute Facebook posts about how grateful they are for their customers. Staff is friendly and willing to help in any way possible and the regulars are amazing too. If you are a new skater, do not feel intimated. Lessons are available on Saturdays and everyone is willing to help. Sundays and Wednesdays are the best days to come. The crowd and the music are amazing. read more

As a new competitive art skater, I'm getting exposed to a few rinks in the SE region. Actually the Roller Dome was my first competition ever in my new skating venture last March and the experience was delightful. Our region is very welcoming in general but the folks running this event and the rink management were beyond helpful. This will definitely go down as one of my must positive experiences. The Roller Dome rink is very nice. It looks like they've made some significant updates. And wow, the club here has some amazing skaters. I encourage local folks in Richmond that want to learn to skate well to get engaged with the class and coaching options. Oh, Roller Dome. I would have driven over half an hour each way for a good quality roller rink. Alas, not much good here, I'm very sorry to say. The rink itself is pretty nice and quite smooth, but everything else not so much. I could get into so many details about just how bad my first and only experience was, but since the owner seems like a nice guy, I don't want to be insanely rude with too much detail. Bottom line is that the layout is terrible, from the entrance to the arcade to the railing. I think they should focus less on pretty lights and more on hiring a team of janitors, renovators and professional space organizers. I will say that I did like that there were skating aids for the little ones. Kind of a necessity when you don't have a beginner's rink though. Definitely not anywhere near enough positives to make this rink worth my while... Major bummer. read more

There is an older lady 5.2 or 3 Caucasian that does not have the first experience in customer service or any training or how to conduct a business. Her personality rubbed a number of patrons and members of my organization the wrong way. We will never schedule anything there again. I visited there recently. I like the place alright. Pretty lights. The floor could use some smoothing in some areas because it almost makes you fall down. There is an area on the carpet that trips you up. The music tho......Please there has got to be better music than what they play. We go on Tuesday $2 nights. What I don't understand is how skate rink owners fail to realize that skate music should have a nice bump to it to motivate all skaters to hit the floor. My God, the music in most of the rinks are just horrible. I personally think skate rinks are a landmark of our old times and a place for the old music to blast. Best rink in Richmond. I go every Wednesday night for Adult Skate from 7:30 to 10. The best JB, rhythm, and trick skaters in the city go to this rink, and usually to that session. The management (Shane, Tony, Yettanda) are all amazing friendly people who continually reinvest in the rink by redoing the floor, redoing the carpet, and scheduling special events that bring in skate clubs from all over the East Coast and beyond. Best music selection I've heard, loudest speaker system I know. Doesn't get too dark when they cut the lights back for slow skate. Can get pretty busy because they are popular. The facility is clean, family friendly for children and birthday parties, reasonably priced, and once you are a regular they appreciate you and will do little favors when you least expect it. There is also a big community of regulars who all get to know you and you can ask just about anybody to help you with a move you see them doing. I really feel like this is my skate family and I am never as impressed when I visit any of the other 3 rinks in the region. read more

Customer Service S.U.C.K.S. Called to discuss having a birthday party for my two grandsons and the woman I spoke to, Lorraine, was not helpful. They offer a few packages for parties (which by the way are the most expensive around and except for the highest cost one, don't offer nearly as much as the other rinks). Each package covers 10 children, we are planning a party that will only include 10 total and that includes the two birthday boys. She told me they WILL NOT combine parties or offer discounts for a second party, it MUST/WILL be charged as two full cost parties. NO EXCEPTIONS and THAT is the owners rule and that's what they tell her. So, I asked to speak to an owner and was told to call back after 7pm to speak to Shane (an owner) BUT Shane IS going to tell me the same thing. I find it difficult that in these times that a business owner isn't willing to offer a better price/package opposed to not getting the business at all. Many attempts to call last night after 7pm went unanswered. I think I will be taking my business elsewhere. By the way I spoke to the owners at Skateland Ashland (awesome, but that's another review to be written), Skateland Chester and Skate A Way in Midlothian. All were incredibly helpful and accommodating. Two birthday kids and the only additional cost I encountered is $8.00 for an extra t-shirt for on of the boys. read more

Roller Dome is SPECTACULAR! From the super friendly, talented, relaxed staff to the superior vibe the staff and skaters have cultivated, I love Roller Dome with every once of my being! I've rented it out for a private bday party and it was a total dream come true, I've been to Saturday group lessons and have learned SO much (and plan to go to more), and every time I visit for an open skate I am more inspired by the whole scene - not to mention have a ton of fun and get exercise! So many staff and skaters there (of all ages levels kids to seniors) are just amazing - their skate dance moves, their style, their talent- I've never seen anything like it! Any time of day or night session you could literally go and just watch and get a great skate show! But don't let this deter you if you are a bit rusty or are a beginner; every one is really nice and the good skaters will offer you encouragement, smiles, and even tips and are never aggressive or anything like that. The vibe is perfect. The prices are wildly and unheard-of affordable for this day and age and they do a great job keeping everything safe on the rink (unlike some other rinks i've been to where entitled youth skaters seem to think the whole place is there roller hockey rink, that NEVER happens at Roller Dome). Roller Dome is a space for people who want to come together, spread the love and joy via skating, and have a great time in a great community! It is a very special place and RVA doesn't even know how lucky it is to have it! All I can say is drop whatever you are doing and go to Roller Dome ASAP! You will be so glad you did. read more

We had a fantastic time! The instructors were so kind and helpful. We were two adults and a 5 year old and with three teachers available we were all able to get individual attention even with 5-6 other students. I was a bit worried based on the other reviews but everyone was very nice. The only staff member who was not very personable was at the food counter but everyone else went out of their way to take care of us. We will definitely visit again. Yes, it looked like a roller rink so it wasn't brand new carpets but I don't really expect that at a place like this and for the low cost, each lesson, rental and skating from 12-5 was only $10. For the personal attention, it was well worth the cost. read more

Oh my God, This place sucks. I don't feel like going through the whole story. Building needs fixing up, change and game machines don't work, Customer service stinks bad. They think they can treat people anyway because they have no competition in the area. I wish someone would open another skating ring on the area so they would value their customers more.
