The lessons they learn on the mat carry over into everyday life, which is priceless. This is more than just a martial arts school. It is family-friendly, with decades of history in the South Bay, founded by Grand Master K.S. Choi and carried on by Master Danny Choi. The masters know every student by name, making each class feel personal and welcoming. The school offers elite-level competition training as well as regular classes for all students. They host school-wide events like holiday potlucks and "parents night out," and are active in the community with annual tournaments and student demos at local schools. If you want the best martial arts school in Palos Verdes and the South Bay, with high-quality training in a family-friendly atmosphere, K.S. Choi Taekwondo is the place to be.

The students seemed amazing as the teachers seemed to know how to work with the youth (young kids / children to older teens) effectively. That is always an important characteristic. If investigating martial arts schools, I'd definitely say check this place out for consideration. We visited KS Choi and the place was hard to find because for some odd reason, the outdoor complex it's located at does not have them listed on the directory or map. Maybe because they have their entry on the side road not internal main corridor they might not technically be a part of the complex... but if they are, they should definitely talk to the shopping center management to get better signage and support on the directory and map for customers to find them.

It includes students of a wide range of backgrounds, ages, ethnicities and abilities which provides great exposure and inclusion. Master Soo is stern, has a commanding voice, earns the respect of her students and parents. She is understanding when students are a little late, friendly with sibling spectators, knowledgeable in her skills and teaching abilities. Instructor Arvin is as patient as he is skilled. He does a great job assisting Master Soo with her lessons, doesn't skip a beat, also earns the respect of the students and really cares about them. There are plenty of classes throughout the week, to fit with a flexible schedule. Although the price is at a slight premium compared to other martial arts studios, it's worth every penny. The facility has a decent parking lot on the lower level nearest the studio but since it's a strip mall, there is more parking available on the 2nd level near Trader Joe's. A great venue to drop the kids off and do a quick grocery run or a quick workout at LA Fitness or a quick haircut, etc. But I choose to stay and watch the fun classes!

Before finding EMAT, our 10-year-old twins struggled to discover an extracurricular activity they…read morewere truly passionate about. We tried different activities, but nothing truly clicked. Enrolling them at EMAT was one of the best decisions we've made for our family. For almost three years, our twins have trained under Master Saturday, with the incredible support of his wife, Paulina. Together, they have created so much more than a taekwondo school. They've built a community where every student is challenged, encouraged, and genuinely cared for. Over the years, we've watched our children grow in ways we never imagined. They've developed confidence, discipline, respect, and resilience and not just on the mat but in everyday life. They've also earned multiple national sparring championship titles while progressing through different belt levels. We're excited to see them achieve their black belts later this year! While we're proud of their accomplishments, we're even more grateful for the character they've built along the way. What stands out most about Master Saturday and Paulina is how deeply they invest in every student. They celebrate victories, encourage students through challenges, and inspire each child to become the best version of themselves. Our twins genuinely look forward to every class, and that speaks volumes about the positive and welcoming environment they've created. EMAT has become so much more than a taekwondo studio, it has become a second family for our family. We've also been blessed to build lasting friendships with so many other EMAT families who encourage and support one another. The sense of community, mentorship, and genuine care is something truly special and rare to find. We are deeply grateful for everything Master Saturday, Paulina, and the entire EMAT family have poured into our children. If you're looking for a place where your child will not only learn taekwondo but also grow in confidence, character, and integrity while becoming part of an amazing community, we wholeheartedly recommend EMAT.

Do not go here. Please, this business needs to die. I don't say that lightly…read more "Master" Saturday has zero social skills and my 5yo son was kicked out of the class, without warning by email, because I mentioned a medical issue my son has for "master" Saturday to be aware of....long version below. Backstory: I have a 5yo son, a few weeks ago he started a tick where he will mono-tone hum for a second or two when thinking. After talking to our pediatrician they said its not a big deal, don't give him grief for doing it since it could make him feel bad, but just monitor it and it will likely fade away. The Issue: At first the class seemed fine. On my son's second class when "master" Saturday was teaching my son did a quiet hum for one second. The teacher sternly told him to be quiet. I have no problem with that because the teacher didn't know. I'm reasonable. A few minutes later there is a short water break for the students so I walk around the mat and calmly/politely explain my son's humming tick, acknowledged that of course "master" Saturday didn't know and I would just appreciate moving forward if he could ignore it. He responds with "Parents aren't allowed on the mats" I explain to him this is a medical issue I'm trying to relay to him and he repeats more BS about parents not being on the mats. He doesn't listen, he just waits to talk. I was pissed but didn't show it and quietly walked away. At the end of class, he asks me to talk. I truly thought we were going to squash our minor issue. I start by acknowledging his valid rule of no parents on the mat, tell him I'm in no way an overbearing parent and have no intent to disrupt the class, I just needed to quickly and discreetly know my sons tick and thought an appropriate time would be during the water break. He completely ignored everything I said and repeated that parents can't be on the mat AND that my son has a hard time paying attention. So now he is ignoring what I have now said 3x AND throwing insults at my kid. It was obvious no constructive conversation was going to be had so I told him I would be leaving For the record my 5yo son paid attention just as much as any other normal 5yo and in my opinion did the practice moves pretty good for a 5yo kid who has literally never done anything like it or even watched martial arts on tv. I then bring him to class this week, "master" Saturday asks if I had received their email, I think I gave them a junk email. Anyways this zero people skills jerk had kicked my son out of the class and gave a refund. My son was obviously disappointed and will be finding a class that has a speck of empathy and social skills. Parents send kids to martial arts for character building, getting used to following instruction, confidence, and SOCIAL SKILLS. How can they teach your kid that when they don't have any social skills themselves, besides surface level conversations sounding cheery to get you to enroll?? They put on a façade of competence. Stay away. Plenty of other local options. I added photo to show I actually went there with my son. STAY AWAY. PLEASE. ***EDIT*** They are now having their friends post fake reviews on same day to counteract mine, and making up lies about me with corporate speak, judge for yourself if you really want to go here.

Dragon has been my home for over 8 years, and ever since then, they have always took good care of me, and shaped me into a well rounded, disciplined person. I've been doing taekwondo ever since I was a little kid, and had the time of my life during this long journey. I also strongly believe that Grand Master HoJae Young is the best in the business. Not only is he the best Grand Master in Southern California, he wants all of us at Dragon to be the best not only at taekwondo, but outside of it as well. He always encourages students during class to try their best, and bring a positive growth mindset every single day. Whether you are reading this review because you are interested in your kid in starting taekwondo, or you are looking for a new studio, I strongly encourage you to check out Dragon. P.S. - I really don't write much reviews on yelp, so I mean everything that I wrote to my heart. Growing up in this studio, I truly had one of the best experiences I could ever ask for in my life. I would like to thank everyone in Dragon for being such amazing people. I couldn't ask for more professionalism from any other studio in the world.
