If you're not getting your haircut here you're fucking up. It's reasonably priced, has an amazing atmosphere, and you'll always leave happy with the cut and service. Long story short: Barbers should always make the effort to communicate with you and understand how you want your hair cut. Doesn't matter how skilled they are otherwise. That is just basic listening and asking a few questions but it is the most important part. My barber at this place failed miserably on this front and gave me an incredibly terrible haircut as a result. Longer version: I got my hair cut here for the first time today. While the barber was skilled with clippers and scissors they did not listen at all or care about how I told them I wanted my hair. This unfortunately led to the 2nd worst haircut of my life. We chatted for a bit about how I wanted my hair and how it's grown out but I wanted to keep it long. The barber wasn't giving me too much care or asking many questions but I explained things and it seemed like we were on the same page. Boy was I wrong! 15 seconds in my hair was buzzed much shorter on the sides. Taking off around 3-4inches. Definitely not what I wanted. Or what we had discussed. Hair came out ok but still subpar for how I like my haircut when it is short. It's down right terrible considering what I wanted and communicated. Caveat: It probably depends on which barber you get like anywhere. Other thoughts: Place looks nice, decor is good even if it's trying a little too hard to be "core." A little crowded (all chairs were full in a small place) given the pandemic but everyone followed mask protocol and I understand these places need to be full to make money. My barber barely spoke to me during the haircut and I didn't see to many other good conversations going on. Saw lots of good looking fades and the other barbers may be better at caring about their customers but I won't be going back to find out. read more

Going to a barber shop as a woman with short hair is often difficult for me, because I find that sometimes I'm not met with the same service as men looking for a haircut. I'm so happy to say this wasn't true at Truman Barber- as soon as I walked in someone greeted me and asked for my name, and once I was checked in and waiting for my appointment another person also went out of their way to make sure I had been helped. Melanie is an amazingly detail-oriented and attentive barber, and gave me one of the best cuts I've had in months. When I mentioned that I was moving across the country in a few months, she even connected me with a barber in the city I'm moving to that does similar work to hers. Made an account just for this post. I booked my first ever appointment for this barber shop at 6:00PM after work. I was running a few minutes late so I gave them a call that I would be about 3-5 m minutes late. No answer. So I park as quickly as I can, running to the barber shop 5 minutes late they cancel my appointment and they said the barber had already left. I got charged the full amount. Although I was late, it was clear to me they tried to make this happen much sooner to get paid and leave early. read more

They said they have a 15 minute window after the appointment is scheduled before they cancel your appointment and don't give your money back. I arrived within that window, and my barber came out from the back after that window had closed and told me they can't cut my hair because it was passed that window. The real deal, plain and simple. I tried out this new barbershop a few days ago, and I am glad I did. The entire experience, from booking on their clean and modern website, to the ambience of their shop (the barbers argue about what vinyl record plays next), to the barbers who truly live the styles that they serve up to their customers, to the haircut itself, and even to the positive feedback from my girlfriend, is all consistently awesome. When it came time to spin the chair and present myself in the mirror he seemed to mess the haircut up by ruffling and making it look dorky and then looked over to see if the barber next to us saw this. I went into this haircut with very high expectations. I left very disappointed. The man who cut my hair was tried to tell me what I wanted and refused to listen to my preferences. He hardly cut any of my hair, he simply put a ton of product in it and pushed my hair against my head. I looked like I was wearing a helmet when I left the shop. Visited them shortly after COVID19 restrictions allowed them to open. They observed all the recommended precautions and were strict about their adherence; such as requiring you to use hand sanitizer before entering the building and to wear a mask (as did all their staff). They were innovative with working around the mask without compromising its effectiveness, so much as that the cut I got was truly perfect and has grown out really well. read more
