Requested quotes through Angi and Roman Painting was one of the companies to respond. He asked questions such as what needed painting. Told him it was just a couple of items and he asked what they cost. Told him they probably were around $100. He then said that it'd be about $300 for them to repaint the items. He then proceeded to LECTURE me on the cost of supplies, the paint, the man-hours. I was really taken aback by this attitude. He made me feel like I had imposed on them to get a quote. I apologized to him for wasting his time and ended the call. So, I would suggest that if you have what you might consider to be a small project, estimate what you may think the cost would be. If it isn't several hundred dollars at a minimum, then you may want to consider doing it yourself, like I am. Cannot judge their work, but their attitude most likely reflects their work. read more

Do not use Albert. He simply isn't good at painting and makes excuse after excuse for shoddy, failing work. The negative reviews on here are extremely accurate I can assure you because they describe my encounters with him perfectly. There's obviously a pattern quite apparent on here. I hired him to paint my kitchen cabinetry and walls and it's been an absolute nightmare. The paint is oddly fragile and is crumbling/scraping off within days of him finishing all over the place. I've never seen paint act this way. Also many areas have an orange peel very rough texture which I will post pictures of. His edging is deplorable and I've had to have him touch up numerous areas. He's got a million excuses that this is somehow to be expected but it's all BS. He knows it. I've actually taken a cabinet door to Dunn Edward's where he bought the paint and showed the paint specialist in the back what was happening and he was shocked. Said that absolute should not be happening and said my painter definitely did something wrong. I've had multiple other paint companies come to my house to quote fixing it and it needs to be completely redone. Everyone says they've never seen paint crumble off like this and something was done incorrectly. Albert has come back twice to re-spray cabinets and frames that are scratched and failing, but it continues to happen and he has zero answer or resolution for me. Also, he does not re-spray like he tells me he's going to. He sprays a couple things and then goes around touching up all the scratched off paint with a paint brush which I've decided to stop having him do because it's very poorly done and leaving globby paint patches everywhere. I will do it myself at this point because I can do a better job than he's doing. At this point after conceding a few different times that something is not right and sending the paint to the lab to be tested to see if it's bad he has decided to stand firm that nothing is wrong with the job and if I wouldn't go around scratching the paint then it'd be fine. Well I can assure you I am not the problem and the only reason I went around scratching the paint was to test its durability once I realized something was severely wrong within days of him finishing the job. It's been two months now and nothings have not changed with the paint. It crumbles and the slightest bump into it completely crumbles the paint and shows the previous paint color underneath (which by the way was done by a different painter and lasted beautifully for 6+ years so I know what a good job looks like). Albert is at this point willing to take zero responsibility for the failed job he's done. I've asked him what I'm supposed to do at this point and he stares at me and says he doesn't know. I've asked him to give me even half of what I paid him back so I could put it towards redoing the kitchen and he absolutely refuses to return any money. Continuing his endless round of excuses and refusal to take any responsibility. I am now stuck. Not sure what to do, but I'm done dealing with Albert at this point that I can assure you of. read more

I have reached out to Alberto at his company to inquire about painting my cabinets. I also had some additional painting that would come later down in the project. When I tell you that my cabinets look brand new, I mean it. First off, Alberto is an amazing person as is his wife Fab who comes with him. It was so enjoyable to have them coming to the house each morning. They were very well respectful of the property as well as our dog. When I stepped out of the house, they were careful to lock up when they left. I felt I could trust them. They were reasonably priced to paint the cabinets in the kitchen as well as the vanities in the bathrooms. Once our remodel project was done, they came back to do some touchup as well as some additional painting projects. There's not enough things I could say about them that may not have already been said. They left the workspace clean. They picked up the materials and paint. They kept the workspace outside also clean and organized. If I have any additional painting projects, I'm definitely reaching out. I know he's still active in the projects that he chooses because I believe Alberto is partially retired but it might be worth reaching out if you have a painting project. I love the high quality of paint that he used. It's been several weeks now and my cabinets and I'm additional painting project looks great. Would recommend 100%. read more

Terrible experience with Alberto. I had an agreement with him and he showed up in the morning as planned. I am a senior citizen, married but living in separate residences from my husband, who is a well established contractor in San Clemente. When Alberto showed up I informed him my husband would like to have a conversation with him about his techniques (he doesn't spray, he uses rollers). Husband just looking out for me. Bear in mind Alberto is not licensed. When I told Alberto husband was coming over, he muttered some words about bad experiences with contractors and raised questions about whether we trusted him. He then said he was going to get coffee while waiting for husband to show up. Alberto never returned, never responded to my text, nor sent any kind of message explaining himself. Just bailed. I'm really shocked by anything negative said on here about this company. I had the pleasure of working with Alberto and his team on three different projects and I was delighted and happy with the work, the professionalism, the timeliness, and especially the overall quality. I found Roman Painting and Refinishing on Yelp last Fall. I had Alberto come out and give me a quote to repaint the inside of my entire home, which was very fair. He also referred me to a drywall guy to remove the popcorn ceilings we had (I know, popcorn ceilings)! What a great experience. Alberto and his sister did a fantastic job cleaning, prepping and painting our 30+ year old kitchen cabinets. They work flawlessly as a team and have a well designed system for removing and reinstalling hinges, drawers and cabinet doors. Our old cabinets did not have hardware so I had purchased drawer pulls and cabinet knobs and asked if Alberto could install them for us. I found Alberto to be extremely rude, condescending, and belligerent. I suppose if he was an amazing painter, I'd look past all of his personality flaws. But he isn't. I cannot fathom that someone who lacks even the most basic of painting skills (like taping, edging and caulking) can call himself a painter! He attached a piece of fascia to the edge of our cabinet with tape, then forgot to remove it and painted over it! He lost most of the screws for our cabinet hinges and when he replaced the doors, none of them would close! Perhaps it had something to do with him bending almost all of the hinges? Heck, how do you manage to bend a cabinet door hinge? My wife mentioned to him that having our cabinet doors no longer closing is a problem, naturally. He answered back, "All I do is take off doors, paint them, and put them back on! If you don't like how they close, buy new cabinet doors!" Well, 1) they were not new cabinets but they weren't warped either- we just needed to have everything re-painted, and 2) we had pictures of the kitchen prior to Alberto's "work" that showed all of the doors shutting. Oh - it gets better (or worse, depending on how you look at it). We have custom cabinetry in our living room. Alberto ripped (yes ripped - I can't think of a more accurate verb... because the front of the drawers were glued on as well as screwed!) off the front wood panels off the drawers then post-painting, screwed them back in with a few miscellaneous screws he had in his bucket. His explanation for this was that the holes where the old screws went were too large now. (Because he stripped them!) When my wife asked why he didn't just paint the drawer fronts without removing them from the drawers (they have a releasable hinge), he said that that would be too heavy for him to work on, and it would take up too much room in OUR garage while it dried. He didn't even take the time to see if the drawer faces were level when he replaced them - over the course of an 18" drawer, one side of was almost 1" higher than the other! Unfortunately, unless you consider 'orange peel' a smooth cabinet finish, then you'll again be disappointed in his work. He insisted that the top of our built in TV table could not be made smooth because the television was not removed... which he didn't mention was a problem until after we complained that the surface was rough. He also used plain brown masking tape and tore our drywall to bits everywhere when he pulled it up! For a paint job costing almost $5000, you'd think he'd have a few bucks to spare to buy a roll of painter's tape, and he'd remove it before it caused the paint to peel underneath, rather than leaving it on for days. We asked Alberto come back and fix our issues - don't ask why... we are suckers for punishment. He was very mad... well, madder than he was last time when he told at my wife to buy new cabinets. He said, "This is the LAST TIME I'M COMING BACK HERE!" Things are still a mess - he "mostly" fixed the drawers on our custom cabinet, but they are starting to fall off (he hopelessly stripped the screws in the wood, so there isn't a screw on the planet that can hold it in place anymore)... but hey, they are mostly straight now! The surface of our table is not smooth, but it isn't the sandpaper it was at first - so I guess that's an improvement. The desk in our kitchen still has tape in the finish and my wife had to re-edge the entire kitchen and family room because he left a quarter inch of overspray everywhere he painted due to poor masking. Anyways, I can go on and on about how truly awful his work is.... But pictures are worth a thousand words, and I'll save a few thousand more by showing you all what a $5000.00 check to Roman Painting and Refinishing will get you... read more

Alberto gave me a quote of $300.00 for labor and $100.00 for materials to refinish a linen closet with two doors. I thought the labor cost was reasonable. He sent me a contract for the job which I signed and also added notes indicating brand new flooring needed to be protected during the job and that it would be finished within 2 weeks time. I told him in advance that I had added the notes to the contract and he said "No problem" A few hours later he text me saying he had a "big job for two weeks" I asked him if he would do the work after he was done and if he could not did he have any recommendations for someone who wanted the job. He ignored my next 3 text messages until he finally responded that he wanted $250.00 cash, that he would pick up the doors to work on those off site. I told him I was confused and that he had just told me he wouldn't be available for 2 weeks. He then responded the $250.00 was because he WAS going to work on the doors. This person is Not professional and the entire exchange was dishonest or at a minimum not transparent. The price may be reasonable but the thinly veiled dishonesty is not. I would not recommend this individual to anyone. read more

I wonder why after many years in business they only have two (2) Yelp reviews, both of them on the same date, and both 5 Stars. When they work, they prefer (almost insist) that you leave them alone in your home, completely unsupervised. I wonder why that is? They painted my house a few years ago and did what seemed to be a satisfactory job. Doors that were removed, however, and later re-installed never closed correctly again, and the peephole on my entry door, which was also removed, was re-installed backwards. Particularly troubling to me is that an unopened bottle of Maker's Mark mysteriously vanished, and when the painters cleared out, was never to be found again. Hmmm, this is another one of life's unsolved mysteries. They only applied one coat of paint, and while it cleaned up the walls somewhat, the paint is now flaking and peeling in some areas, so we're disappointed about the job for the longer term. The paint used was from Dunn Edwards, so it may be flaking and peeling simply because of the way it was applied. Clearly, we would never use this company again. read more

This guys is a contractor disaster. Run for the hills. He is unreliable, bullying, and the quality of work is shoddy. He refinished cabinets for us and left us with door backs unpainted, over-spray and misses everywhere. Everything was on his time and his terms, until it came time for his final 5% payment of over $5000. He didn't want to complete the job, instead all he wanted was to get his money and run to his next "overdue job". Do your homework. Check out a track record of horror stories on Ang**** List.
