Longer story: I've been going to 1st Ave Barber Shop for a while now and without a doubt, it's my favorite place for a guys haircut in Calgary. Not only that, it's CHEAP! It's truly a man cave walking in there. They have an HDTV to keep you occupied as you wait. Ari (the owner) is a super nice young dude and usually offers you coffee or water when you walk in. I usually get a pomp and for some reason, it's a hard cut for a lot of people to get right but, every time I go here, they get it perfect. Both barbers have cut my hair, and they both do it exactly the same. This is something totally unheard of. Oh, and did I mention a haircut is $25? Not only that, but it's one of the very few places in Calgary that you can get a proper shave. I've gotten the traditional shave ($26) before and it was awesome. Having that bit of pampering was important to his wedding day but his usual spot doesn't do reservations and would offer no promises. We found signal hill because it's by our jeweller and caterer and although they don't do reservations they told them to be there right when they open at 9 and they would be in and out sure thing. 9am was already tight and we told them this 3 days before the wedding and they told us to chill. Well the guy that does the shaving was seriously late that morning. Hubby says more that half an hour. The shave when he got it was poor and required it be redone. He didn't get his haircut done the day before like I suggested and unfortunately was stuck doing it that morning making the guys more and more late. The barber didn't apologize and laughed it off and threw our schedule into a tailspin when the guys were over an hour behind by the end of it. Weddings are often late because of the bride. Well, I got to sit around waiting for the guys. I'm not sure what this place is like when there isn't the stress and time pressures of a wedding but their attitude rubs me a bit the wrong way. I get that things happen but an apology goes a long way.
