    Grandma's Pizza
    Jason M.

Have you ever eaten anything that makes you truly happy? Every time I eat Romeo's I can't stop smiling. I've only had the regular cheese and their grandma's pizza but it's some of the best pizza I've had anywhere. This is a hidden gem! Must try! Best in Berks County and It's not even close. If you're looking to brighten your day grab yourself a pie.. you won't be disappointed! Every pie they make you can tell they take pride in making. Everyone that works there that I've talked to is extremely friendly. Glad I only live about 10 minutes from it.. but if it were an hour I'd prob drive to it!

A small shop with a few tables, more of a carry out place with very good pizza and subs and a friendly staff.

The Sicilian pizza was amazing. Easy to order on line and pick up. Will definitely order here again.

Food is average or just above on a good day, so I can recommend if you are close and hungry you will probably be satisfied. But one thing that may have contributed to it's decline is employee satisfaction and appreciation. As I go into detail here. Had a really uncomfortable experience last visit. I thought we would try Mangia again but while we were eating we had to listen to the manager (?) berating one of the employees. Not only was it very negative but there was foul language as well. If you have something to address with an employee.. do it respectfully and privately. Not in front of coworkers, and especially not in the presence of customers. A pleasant dining experience is directly related to a pleasant low stress work environment. Disgruntled and stressed employees do not make for a positive experience for the customer. Service will suffer.

Service was excellent and ambience was terrific, especially because it was quiet since only one other table was occupied while we were there. I honestly don't know why I don't come here more often, especially considering I like this food…read moremore than any offering from the wildly more popular Paolo's Pizza which is just up the road. So, what makes Paolo's more popular? The fact that they have a bar, I'd reckon. Chicho Bella (I love saying this out loud, by the way) is located at an unfortunate location nestled between a gas station and used car dealership off a busy stretch of U.S.-222 BUS. Unless you're looking for it, you'd probably just zoom right by it and be none the wiser. Hell, even when I was looking for it, I zoomed right past it because it's basically on the side of a highway, and the building itself is tiny. Your eyes would have to be glued to the side of the road rather than the road itself to have a chance of spotting it. That is, unless you want to be plodding along with an angry, mile-long convoy behind you going 20 MPH as you're squinting at every building in the general vicinity of where your GPS took you. Once I found the damn place, it was smooth sailing... well, kinda. I went in, picked up my order, got back to my car, and.. hmm, something seems off. Ah yes, I'm missing my salad. Go back in to retrieve said salad. Guy working behind the counter says, "Oh, my bad, here it is." The salad is teetering on some ledge five inches from the ceiling above the grill. Ah yes, warm salad. Nothing better. So yeah, other than the fact that they need to double check the pickup orders to make sure everything is actually there, I quite liked the food. They put a lot of passion into their menu. They being the two owners of the restaurant that appeared in a Reading Eagle article years back when Chicho Bella first opened. I walked in and it was like "Oh shit, those are the same two guys behind the counter cooking and manning the cash register." These dudes aren't just sitting back and hiring people to do the dirty work. They are very much hands-on owners who are doing what it takes to keep their business afloat. I have to respect that. They have some good specials online (especially during lunch), so be sure to check out their official website. Chicho's is the perfect spot for hoagies, personal stromboli's, and chef salads (with hard-boiled egg!). Fantastic selection.

That being said, our steaks knocked it out of the park. I had the prime rib which was cooked to perfection and so juicy. My husband had the filet mignon and it was so deliciously tender. We decided on the same sides, and the garlic mashed potatoes were super yum! Both entrees also came with a house salad, not anything fancy but fresh and good. We also got some rolls when salad was served. Our waitress was super friendly and talked to us a bit. The wait staff were working together; someone other than our server picked up a salad plate when we were finished so it didn't sit there long. The building is a beautiful old structure that you can just see the history in. Very nicely and subtly decorated. Upscale and high-class, which aren't very common in Berks. We did make a reservation and I'm glad we did; it was packed! We heard the building is for sale so you gotta go now while you still have the chance!!

We were meeting friends who were already inside, so we just walked around until we found them. Including our table, there were 2 total tables of people, which was sad to see. I can remember coming here as a child and it being quite the fancy, busy establishment. First, the food was delicious! I ordered the filet mignon that came with mushrooms, mixed green veggies, French Fries, and a salad. My filet was perfectly prepared. The mushrooms and veggies were awesome. The FF were lacking... just an oddly sliced potato that really didn't amount to much. Others in my party had crabcakes which they said we're phenomenal. Secondly, the atmosphere and facilities...they were sadly very poor. The restaurant needs a complete makeover. The chairs looked dirty, doors were broken, decor was all over the place. It was actually a bit uncomfortable to be in. Lastly, the bill. To say we were shocked was an understatement. For four of us it was $230+. Please know that we didn't order any appetizers. That was only for our main course and drinks. The food prices were not out of line. However, the drink prices were the highest we have ever paid... ANYWHERE! $16 for a Kahlua and cream. $15 for a Cosmo. Not knowing the drink prices, I ordered a regular soda. One person had two wines and an espresso martini for dessert. Another had two Cosmo's and a Kahlua and cream for dessert. Another had two windsor & cokes. We felt taken advantage of. It's a shame... we're not going back because of this. The owner was friendly and I think she was the chef. However, the drink prices and atmosphere are turning this into a once and done experience.

Thursday seems now to be Burger Night, if I read the little sign in the barroom correctly. There is a small bar, by itself, and a main dining room with six or seven tables, plus another table in an adjoining room. The owner should turn up the nice music tape a little bit (heard Frank Sinatra once or twice, but very distantly). The atmosphere needs a little help and that would do it. If the tables aren't all involved in conversations, it gets a little too quiet in the dining room, I thought. Stuffed mushrooms appetizer was good; two mushrooms, we shared it. The salads, with homemade dressings, were excellent; nice greens. I had chicken with crabmeat as entree, good. The mashed-up baked potato with it was delicious; the vegetables, which included broccoli, brussels sprouts, and green beans, were too al dente for my taste. I ate the beans but couldn't make it through the sturdier ones, so a tip for the future, should specify vegetables well-done. We also had a slice from a strawberry cheesecake roll for dessert, good. All the above plus two glasses of wine came in just under $100. The tables were almost all full but food service was not noticeably slow. We had courses regularly and were there for two hours. There is one nasty terrible review on Yelp for the restaurant, but based on our experience, it must be an outlier and I would disregard. May try Burger Night another time but I hope management heeds my call to boost the soundtrack music! Could make a difference.
