Probably the most inexperienced and unprofessional business I ever had the displeasure of using…read more Byron & Byron was hired as a sub-contractor by my home builder to do the drywall work, trim work and install kitchen cabinets. I hired Byron & Byron "on the side" to paint the interior of my home. I dealt with Lyden 100% of the time and we agreed on a price for the paint ($2484.10 with tax). Although I received a written quote, we never signed a contract. Lyden painted the interior of the house with the exception of a large area going up the steps. Lyden requested full payment, but I explained I would pay when the job was completed. Lyden insisted the missed area was a "dent and ding item", to be done when all trades were done inside the home. Didn't make sense to me since carpet was not yet installed. Why wouldn't the painting be completed prior to carpet?!? Besides, the missed area was entirely too large to be considered "dent and ding". I offered to pay Lyden $2000 of the $2400, paying the remainder $400 when the job was complete. Lyden refused and told me he was going to put a lien on my home! Lyden took the first step of filing a lien and submitted to the state. Really??? For a job not done? I wasn't worried; I had photos of the incomplete job and had all intentions of going after their bond if they insisted on pursuing the lien. Keep in mind this paint issue was only part of the problem with this company. Byron and Byron hung my kitchen cabinets three inches too low requiring them to be reinstalled and also requiring the tiled backsplash to be redone. The caulking they did was horrendous! Amateur at best. Lyden had to remove a few areas of really horrible caulk work and redo it. The blemishes in the sheetrock are too many to count. All of the wall edges are sharp to the touch from the texturing process. I mentioned this to Lyden, but it was never addressed; another job I'll have to take care of myself. Touch-up on the trim work (i.e. nail holes and joints) stand out like a sore thumb. Maybe a trick-of-the-trade, but they installed black electrical tape on the backside of the mitered corners on the kitchen cabinet trim to block the daylight showing through the joints. No pride in detail or workmanship! I'd keep shopping around for another contractor if I were you!
