Fast customer service. This is the second time I have had him out to fix new appliances.

So, a few weeks ago a local handyman I know contacted GT for me and their estimator was out a week later. We negotiated a great deal, signed a contract that day and scheduled the work to be done whenever the wind and rain finally took a break. That day was today! The GT crew showed up at 8 AM and worked as a coordinated team of roofing ninjas. They tore off the old comp, replaced rotted plywood over the eves, laid down new laminated "paper", hand nailed the new much more attractive modern style composition roofing shingles, the old roof ridge vent, the boots around the plumbing vents, added flashing, and, naturally, they cleaned up every speck of debris from the tear-off. The last truck rolled away just before 1 PM, so in less than 5 hours they did an impressive job from start to finish. My husband and I couldn't be happier about the incredibly professional work GT Roofing did for us!

The 50' X 60' barn got the entire metal roof replaced because of excessive leaks and got new insulation as well. The crews were fast, efficient and cleaned up the whole area very well. This is a tough review to write because I think Zach, owner of Family Man Handyman, is more than…read morecapable of doing beautiful work and he is good with communication. However, my overall experience (including cost) have prevented me from hiring him again or recommending Family Man to others. I contacted this company to install a gliding garbage/recycling drawer behind a lower kitchen cabinet. In our new home, there isn't a pantry or really a good spot to put garbage, and I didn't want it out in the open! In addition, there were smaller jobs/odds and ends I wanted the handy man to look at IF he had time after installing the garbage drawer. In communication with Zach and on his recommendations, I purchased a glider system, appropriate garbage and recycling cans, and specific drawer handle from Home Depot prior to the appointment. Zach sent a fellow employee, Tom, which is where it started going wrong. Even with pictures and videos provided, Tom did not set up what we requested. Instead Tom apparently LEFT the house to go to the hardware store for some period of time to buy a completely separate system without asking me - he had my phone number and had been texting - and installed it without the drawer handle or any of the items I purchased! (Why am I charged time for him to go to the store?) Then, he did some of the smaller items on the list to mediocre results. For example the garage door that was stuck? Still stuck! Etc. I emailed Zach my disappointment and that Tom didn't accomplish what we asked at all. Zach then set up a time to come out himself and basically created my vision perfectly. Pictures included. To this day we LOVE our system - he even made the drawer "soft close". It's exactly what I had in mind. He also adjusted the invoice to fairly reflect 2 hours of Tom's time plus his day in our home. The final issue is the cost. In my mind, a "handy man" shouldn't cost an arm and a leg.. for a sliding garbage can behind a kitchen cabinet, it cost us $500 plus materials. It also irks me that we pay $75 for commute when his business is designed to come TO your home, and we live 15 minutes from Family Man. When Comcast comes out, do they charge you for commute? When we hired roofers from Tacoma, for example - a farther distance - they did not charge us $75 for the time it took to travel to our home. Zach is great at what he does - hence the 3 star review, you could still get exactly what you want - but quite honestly I'm not sure the people he's working with or the cost of services makes Family Man worth it. I wish I would have read a review such as this before spending $500.

He said, no problem, I have a call on Wednesday at 10am, I will come after that. So, here it is Wednesday about 2pm. I text and ask if he is still coming. Nope too busy, he will come on Friday. No biggie, that's fine. Would of been nice to hear from you to let me know, but whatever. Friday comes. I text early in the morning to see if he's still coming. An hour later I get a text telling me he's broke down in Portland. okay.... so not Friday. I thought I would hear from him on Monday, at least to say he's still broken down or can/not come. Nothing. Here it is Tuesday and still nothing... So, after I posted this review, he contacted me immediately. Apparently, he was in an accident and had to be hospitalized. Hence, he couldn't make it. We ultimately did not hire him as our issue could not wait.

Their insurance company, Liberty Mutual, has denied the claim after I sent all the paperwork, pictures, and video. We got a low bid contractor and even supplied flooring, baseboard, and cleanup to keep the cost down. We would be dinged on our homeowners insurance if we let them pay the claim but that wasn't right because we had no fault in the problem. They probably spent more in wages and time from 11/18/24 - 4/25/25 than just paying the claim. The guys at Nyholm's were uncooperative from the get go and it took me a week and half just to find out who their insurance company was and there was so much more after that. Either they couldn't be bothered to answer the phone, or couldn't be LESS interested in helping us. I think this is the one who said they would look at our fried Gr if we BROUGHT IT INTO THEIR SHOP ?! WOW No empathy, no suggestions or recommendations. How is it that there is NO emergency refrigerator repair services available to us here in Lewis County? When our fridge died with no previous warning there was a problem, my husband and I panicked. I would personally consider the refrigerator in every household an "essential appliance" because it preserves ALL of the PERISHABLE food we purchase to feed our families. So, if you are looking for a new career, I would recommend becoming a refrigerator repair company. We would have paid double time for any qualified appliance repair company to come out at any hour to help us troubleshoot the problem. My husband and I discussed the idea of getting into the refrigerator repair business exactly for this reason. Weeks later, the problem was identified in 5 minutes as a failed switch behind the rear cover plate that cost less than $70. IRONIC Of course we can't expect appliance repair companies to have parts in stock for every brand of every appliance on hand so it was going to take a day or two to repair. Our groceries were long since spoiled and thrown away. We had to buy another refrigerator to solve the problem as soon as possible. Our broken but repaired older fridge will go into the garage as a spare. Shaking my head. In the age of purchase and replace versus repair, repurpose, or reuse $2,000 for a new fridge and an old one destined for a land full. Remember when refrigerators used to last 20 years or more?
