We had such a great day at Ron Coleman Mining! We did the Unlimited Day Pass for $55.00, this included a tour of some amazing pieces, a jeep ride through the mine and the process of handling some of their finds. It also included a full day of mining and zip lining. You can separate all these options if you choose to save some cash but we thought that was a good deal. We struggled to decide which mine to go to and have zero regrets. We are super excited to get home and clean up our great selection of gems. Everything was great, well explained and the staff were super friendly, helpful and seemed to really enjoy their jobs. Props to Andrew , Preston, Adrianna, Jeremiah and Kam! This place is every adult/ kids dream. Get a bucket some shovels, & start digging. 4 acres of area to dig in. Don't let the haters sway you that they "couldn't find anything" because there's a ton of crystals all over and they didn't try very hard, in the dirt, on the dirt around the dirt. It's every rock nerds dream. Get your hands dirty, your shoes muddy; pack a lunch and bring the dog. There's more crystals around than what's worth keeping. Take what you can carry. Really awesome place too, & some amazing views. Zip lining and a mine tour for some additional $$. The staff is super polite and welcoming. A super fun activity that is worth the price of admission. Wear clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting a little muddy. Also, this activity does require some mobility with being able to bend, lift, and crouch. read more

My sister and I planned our birthday around coming here to dig for crystals. The ladies in the gift shop was nice and helpful. We booked for the tour with crystal dig with tour was $35 pp. They gave us a complimentary Ron Coleman white bag for finds. I found a lot of small to medium sized crystals and a few were translucent. They weren't easy to find, but once you remember that crystals are located in muddy and wet areas that's the clue. I kept looking for dark spots that lead to smooth surfaces on the quartz. There was a few people digging out in the pits. Some were smart enough to bring portable wagons for hauling. Professional rockhounders were out there too. My sister and I purchased our garden tools from Atwoods for $11. It surely came in handy! The tour was a bust! I definitely wouldn't recommend it. The guy who held the tour was extremely monotoned and had a lack of emotion/expression on his face. His voice was similar to Mr. Beans. My sister and I both agreed that he bored us to death! He spoke a lot about himself. When we went down into the mine, you aren't allowed to get off the truck to dig. I didn't care for that because I saw a big piece that was ready to be picked. At the beginning of the tour, we watched a video made in 1999. Then we walked us around the showroom to let us display gems that aren't found in the mine, so, amethyst, smoky quartz, selenite, etc (pieces you'd find any any gem shop). Of course, he gave us explanation of each piece which we were already keen on as we have been rock hunting since childhood. All the dig piles that are accessible is extracted from the mine by a bulldozer. I feel like without the tour, I'd get my money's worth, but still the value of the crystals were nice. The gift shop sells jewelry, home decor, tee shirts, rocks to collect, etc. My photos of my finds don't do justice, but the pieces are beautiful and natural! read more

There is pack of hounds near the campground. I did not sleep at all. I guess in an RV it would be tolerable, but not in a tent.

Pretty fun . My boys would have loved this when they were little .. few things - bring a hand Shovel and a bucket.. gloves . Closed toed shoes . Don't wear anything nice you're gonna get filthy . So disappointed in finding zero crystals on our dig here in September. We drove 10 hours each way from Cincinnati because my friend had dug crystals here before and found tons of them. We spent at least two hours digging in several places with no luck. I suspect they are dug out! That's a crystals I have been tapped out. They did not bring out a fresh haul while we were there but they promised we'd find crystals. I would be suspicious about this place. read more

Wow!! What an awesome experience. Wife and I had a great 3 hour dig and found a huge clear double point. Listen carefully to the instructions from the guy at the store. Clay and peanut butter dirt equals pay dirt. Plus.... There are tons of rocks you can take with you. If you don't have your own tools to bring they rent them. I would recommend a small cart to bring to take your haul back and some buckets. We filled the buckets and the cart. The store has an excellent selection of tumbled and palm stones as well as carvings, jewelry and don't forget to get a shirt! You dug the dirt get the prize. It was a great value for us and we felt we got more than we paid for. Definitely going to come back and would recommend to any couple or family. During our trip to Hot Springs we knew we wanted to do a little digging. We've never done it before and with 4 kids in tow, we wanted to get them off their devices and do something active. We had the best time! The 90° weather wasn't ideal, but we could have spent hours playing in the dirt. Going into it, I had no idea what to expect - would it be hard to find something? Would there be much there to find? We were pleasantly surprised. We found so many unique rocks and crystals and it didn't take long at all for everyone to fill up a big heavy bag of treasures. They also have tours available, but we didn't take one. Tip: bring all of your own supplies. We stopped at Walmart on the way and got gardening hand trowels and rakes and it was perfect. My overachiever husband brought a full size shovel, but we really didn't need it. read more

$25/person but if you stop at a visitor's center in AR you can find a booklet with a $5 off coupon. We arrived at noon (the hottest part of the day). Make sure you are wearing a hat, sunscreen, gloves, and a long sleeved shirt to avoid a sunburn. I also recommend closed toe sturdy shoes. I wore Toms and that was a dumb idea. Some people brought umbrellas they could stake into the dirt to keep them shaded. That would work well if you were sitting in one spot for a while. Bring your own tools. I brought a few hand tools that I usually use for digging in my garden. Make sure they are sturdy metal or you could bend them if you are too aggressive with your digging. We had also brought a pick axe and a hammer, but we ended up leaving them in the car after we were told we could not "hit or break" the rocks. Bring your own wheelbarrow, bucket, or bag to carry the rocks you find. We brought a bucket and our handle immediately broke, so we used the 2 bags provided by the company when checking in. They were flimsy, difficult to hold since they didn't have a handle, and got real heavy real fast. We found a lot of shiny stones without digging at all (mostly on the right side of the hill). Other people were digging their own holes or using brushes to find smaller finer crystals, but I don't think that was really necessary. They have a water table for spraying off your rocks at the end. The table was usually occupied by 2+ people who selfishly spread they rocks across the entire table. We didn't have the opportunity to rinse off anything there, but we used our power washer back at home. If you don't want to pay to dig, you cannot enter the dig site. However, you may be allowed to drive down to the water table and pick up the rocks that paying customers have discarded. We ended up with a whole lot of shiny things after an hour of searching. It was too hot to keep at it, but your admission is good all day. If you need to leave to get cool or get food, you can come back the same day. We didn't find anything as nice as what is in the gift shop. I wish that there was someone or some chart available to show us what we were looking for so we could identify what we found. 100% worth the admission fee for an hour of fun we'll never have the chance to do again. read more

So much fun! Since it was our first time, we were a little unsure of what to expect, but slowly got the hang of it. The staff were very nice at the office as well as in the in guiding and advising. The young man that was outside with us was genuinely kind and excited for our finds. They also have reasonably priced tools for sale. Little cloudy and wind was nice. They kept bringing fresh dirty every 10 mins!!! The zip line was closed and also the tour. I was a little disappointed but still had fun digging! It's $25 per person and bring buckets if you want to carry the crystals. They will give you bags for free but I like having buckets. Since the crystals can be sharp when you first dig them up. The gift shop had a good selection of crystals for sale, knowledgeable staff and clean restrooms. There were also portable restrooms near the mining area. Adults $25 per ticket and our four year-old was free. Easy accessible parking, you don't have to ride a bus or truck to the digging area which we liked. We found a lot of crystals and has a great time digging. There is a good truck on site and you can leave and return if you'd like to go into York for lunch and come back, just keep your wristbands for reentry. Everyone was very friendly and we had a fun! I would recommend bringing wipes, and plastic bags for your dirty shoes/clothes. Extra clothes and shoes will be good if you'd like to change afterwards. The dirt is red/orange and messy. 10/10 recommend for an easy family activity. read more

As Wegner was closed on Mondays, we wanted to try another mine to compare it to (personally having been to Wegner before I knew it was awesome). The clerks at Ron's were more interested in chatting with each other than actually helping customers. Though we were at the counter, they ignored us and just kept chatting away about their personal lives. The older lady with long hair glanced at us but never spoke to us. I had to interrupt with "Excuse Me", for the older lady to stop the chit chat and come to the register to assist us. We paid and then one of the younger workers gives us an intro and hands us a free bag. The young woman then asks where we are from. When we say Texas, she replies with "Bless Your Heart". For those of you who don't know, in the South, this is usually said as a sly insult. The hard glare I gave her encouraged her to laugh nervously and then say she was just joking. She then proceeds to give her spiel in record time - so fast that we couldn't understand half of what she was saying. If I hadn't just driven an hour and my companions were not so gung ho, I would have requested a refund and left at that point. I don't know if this kind of behavior is the normal M.O. for this mine or treatment reserved just for black people, but it was not ok. By far the rudest interaction we'd had with anyone our entire time in Arkansas. It was hot (not their fault) and not much of quality or volume was found. It was mostly broken and milky pieces. I personally found more at Blue Moon my last trip and that's only $10 all day as opposed to their $25. It was a disappointing experience all around. You'd do better to spend your $25 at Jim Coleman's store or at another mine if Wegner is not open. My companions, however, did enjoy the novelty of the experience at it was their first Crystal Mine experience. Also of note: They are no longer dumping fresh dirt multiple times daily, maybe once or twice a week. read more

When my girlfriend and I went we made the mistake of not dressing the part, and the crew advised us on the severity of changing our gear. We came back after going to a thrift store down the street , and after mining the only thing you really need to worry about is your pants and shoes in terms of how messy you'll get. The crew was so nice and educated us on what to do exactly so we wouldn't walk around all confused. You definitely will find HELLA crystals, just by looking at the ground, and it's never ending. Your bag WILL get full. Going after 3 pm gets you half off in the entrance, so if you've never been and don't plan to be there all day, try going around 3 to save some money. read more

Best place for adults to dig in the dirt! Quartz crystals come in all sizes; from tiny to huge! They ate everywhere at ghis mine; dig in huge piles of dirt and mine debris. This adventure might get you dirty, but it makes you feel like a kid! This mine costs a few more bucks than the other Coleman, but it is closer to town and easier to get to. Worth the dollars. Bring a shovel; they give you a durable bag to put the rocks in. Wear sunscreen; there is no shade. My wife and I had an extra day from vacationing Hot Springs to spare, so we decided to go do a little digging. As 1st timers, we didn't know what to expect as we drove out to Jessieville. How Sketchy would this be? would anybody be there except Bubba? But to our surprise, the backwoods storefront is expansive, clean and inviting and there were 30-40 people there. As for the digging, I would encourage any1st timers to go. They give you a bag to put your stuff in and you can unload in your car and make as many trips as you like. Now we were lucky to find a large 5.5 lb quartz ($20-300 we think) but even if we didn't, we found 50-60 other pieces that we are fond of as well. Maybe not worth much, but some keepsakes for our $25 a piece investment. Good luck y'all! read more

It seems like other people around us weren't finding as much so it might be more of a hit or miss situation depending on where you dig. Seriously so much fun! Even if you aren't into crystals nothing beats going out finding a spot and digging. We took our four year old, two year old and 2 month old. They had so much fun and it was such a beautiful day after the soil had just been shifted. We loved it. There's so much land to be gone thru. I can't imagine how people go and don't find something they love! We found several points crystals, milky quartz and lots of other cool rocks and hopefully a geode or two! It was really magical finding one and knowing you had put in some work to find that crystal. Everybody was very polite and friendly just looking for some fun and crystals. The gift shop also has an awesome selection of crystals and necklaces, shirts and decorative pieces as well as books for purchase don't forget to take a look. Any great finds these folks made is totally fake. You cannot find great stuff from the "tailings" a Ron Coleman mine. Tourists are not allowed in the mine itself or that was what I was told. I do not believe a thing about finding great crystals there. My husband and I were there this past October and there were absolutley NO dumptruck deliveries like on this video! The first day we were there all day long and no dirt was delivered. The second day there was a back hoe bucket delivery of mostly huge bolders and very little dirt. When I asked the office about it I was told that only the people kin the mine knew when deliveries were scheduled. I don't belive that either. I'm not a novice digger. I can't belive anyone would even consider going to Ron Coleman Mine. If you want details look at the Google reviews of the disappointed folks who got ripped off there. It's a fun experience, but it's never communicated on their website (neither was the price increase) or anything that they don't provide tools for the dig. So, we had to buy overpriced, low-quality kids gardening tools. You'll be better off getting a shovel and other tools from Walmart if you don't have any. One of those kneeling cushions for gardening and gloves would help too. A lot of people had buckets and wagons to haul off their finds. They also didn't give a whole of information about digging for crystals, we had the most hello from a couple who dig out there frequently. There's definitely a lot to be found, but hard to do with the equipment they have to buy and little instruction. It is nice that kids 6 and under are free and the tour is a cool experience, especially given it's a cheap add-on. read more

Great experience! After reading others reviews I was worried we would come home empty handed but I think we were there on a good day. It had rained for about 2days before we got out there and I think they had just moved some piles around. My 9 year old who isn't very committed to digging walked up and picked up a big crystal laying on top of the mud. I later found two other beautiful pieces near the same spot just poking around in the mud on the flat areas. Anytime I really dug in the big mounds like everyone else was, I found nothing. We stayed overnight in the campground it was only 12 bucks with hook ups (and found crystals on the ground there too) and paid $5 per kid and $20 per adult to dig for the day. One of the crystals I found alone is worth $55-75!! So we definitely got our money's worth. Fun times. Definitely try it! read more
