He barely cut my sides even, though I showed him a photo of the burst skin fade I wanted and specifically said to use scissors, so now I had a weird bob look with my side and top almost being the same length. Had to stop him and say because he cut it too short I'd prefer he just do a mid skin fade to salvage it, he says he'll take care of it but then just uses the clippers to shave it down, not even doing what I asked for a second time. I pulled my phone out and looked up photos of what I was talking about but he just ignored me. Finished up and noticed he didn't even cut both sides evenly. I tried to show him, using my fingers to hold up my hair length so he can see how obviously the lengths were different, but he just walked to the register to ring me up. I just stayed quiet, paid and gave him his tip so I could leave and calm down. If you see a guy with an apron-vest combo packing all his things, highly suggest asking for someone else.

His studio is in a shared working space with other hair and makeup studios - very cool concept. But his studio feels very private, I loved this aspect - its not like most salons where other people are waiting and watching you get your haircut. Nice setup! I went for the 45 min haircut experience, most of the other places I've been have been 20-30 min. He really took his time to understand the type of cut I wanted and the length, we started a bit longer so I could see if thats what I wanted first. He used various techniques which was fun to watch, you can tell this guy enjoys his craft. He is super friendly, easy to talk to but not overbearing. My cut came out great and I'd never had a straight razor to clean up the lines before. I will definitely go back, I think for the price - he went above and beyond my expectations. I had done a few looks around on Yelp as well as asking a friend of mine who used to live in Stamford as to where to go for a guy's haircut for my boyfriend, Lee. All signs seemed to point to these guys, so we decided to head over and check them out. It's really nice that for us, it's only a 10 minute walk from our apartment to the Marriott. There is also parking in the hotel parking lot. This place is a traditional barber shop, catering to guys. It was pretty packed, with almost standing-room seating, but there were 3 guys working the chairs that day, so things were going pretty fast. There were quite a few dads taking their sons in to get both of their hairs cut. It didn't take long before Lee was in the chair, and was getting a nice, professional cut. The guy waiting on him was really friendly to me as well, gesturing over to the free coffee and donuts that were on offer. When the cut was done, he asked me if I thought it was OK before he asked Lee, which I found amusing. Lee is still really happy with his cut, and has definitely found his new favorite place! I appreciated that they were friendly to me as well, and the price was good, although it is cash only.

Extremely disappointed with the quality of barber here…read more The first barber I went to did a pretty good job the first 4 times. I stopped giving him instructions on the 5th cut. The 5th time he gave me the worst haircut I've had in memory. Cut it way too short on the back of my head which led to my cowlick sticking up for literally a month no matter how much product was put in it. Unacceptable to make this bad of a mistake after cutting someone's hair this many times and being given precise instructions the first 4 times. This barber also kept giving me styling clay (doesn't work for my hair) rather than pomade when I asked for pomade specifically. Finally on the 4th cut I pointed out the label on the fking can which says pomade and said "this is pomade dude the other one is styling clay, read the label". He didn't like that but whatever. I complained to the owner about the results of the 5th cut and asked him if the owner could fix it on my next visit. To the owner's credit, he attempted to fix it free of charge. That's where the credit ends. There were several actions the owner took which were unprofessional and reflected extremely poorly on his skill, attention to detail, and ability to admit mistakes. I took the time to show him 5-7 pictures including examples of good haircuts and the terrible haircut Barber 1 had given me. He joked, verbatim "that actually looks kind of cool" in one of the shots where my hair looked terrible. Glad he could find the humor in an upset customer's situation. I explained to him multiple times during and before the cut that my hair needs to have sufficient length to avoid sticking up. He was careful not to trim the back given what the previous barber had done, but gave me a FADE ON THE SIDES. Now my hair will stick up worse than before for at least 3 weeks. When I told him he messed this up he said "oh a little product will fix it." No dude. No amount of product in the world will cause my hair to lay flat when its cut this short. Also he couldn't even do the sideburns properly! I had to fix it myself with a razor later. Pathetic! When he realized that he had cut it too short and that my one bald spot was showing, he said "Oh well it is what it is we're not trying to cover it up". What a joke of a professional. I've had my hair cut by many experienced barbers. Barbers with a tenth of his "experience" have recognized my bald spot and been thoughtful enough to layer it so it doesn't show. I told him to his face "When it's cut correctly the bald spot doesn't show". He would not take accountability for doing a bad job, saying "your hair is difficult to cut, it's hard to do it right on the first time, if i didn't cut it this short it would look bad etc..." He also said "you get what you pay for". My favorite barber in Monroe charges $25 relative to his $80. He understood how to cut my hair perfectly from the first time and has never messed it up. All in all, this place is 100% style over substance. They charge a high price and have nice furnishings. If you are looking for a skilled cut and have difficult to cut hair, I would reconsider. Herrcutters in Darien are extremely professional and have the quality to back up their price. Matt at Matt and Louie's is phenomenal in Monroe but don't take reservation so be prepared to wait.
