Ron came out and gave us a quote for repairing a poor taping job in our bathroom. The amount seemed a little high but fair enough. He and his wife arrived on time time to do the work. When they first arrived, his wife said that there were new damaged areas than what she remembered. The damage to the bathroom occurred nearly six months ago and nothing had changed in the week since they came to give us a quote. I found this comment to be dishonest and in an attempt to try and get more money. When I told her that it was exactly the same as when they gave us a quote the week before, Ron calmed the situation and they went to work. But this comment rubbed me the wrong way. The work was completed timely and OK. But I wouldn't say I am completely satisfied with it. The texture definitely does not match up, they got texture on some trim that required us to do additional work to fix, and some areas have lines from the mud. We were in a pinch for another job and considered using them. However, they could not do the work in the time frame we needed it completed. They did give us a quote for the work though. We informed them we would complete approximately half the work ourselves and then they could complete the rest in order to get the work done on schedule. They responded that they would still charge us the same for half the work. That burned the bridge for. Three strikes. So, no I would not recommend them overall. But this may be because we had a bad experience. The obviously have a lot of really good reviews so there are a lot of other people who have been very satisfied with their work. Couldn't be a worse experience. Run away. Maybe ok for small jobs, but for anything substantial with continuity he would not stand behind his work. Two major things: 1 is that he gave us the wrong texture. Is that even possible? Yes. Imperfect smooth was asked for and he gave us a knock-down. He wouldn't stand behind his work and said to fix it he would charge $600 more. 2 we had to hire another company to repair the truly uneven and assymetric work they did on one main staircase wall that was half done and discontinuous with the lower half. If you do hire them, check the work thoroughly before paying him (my major mistake), because once paid there was no coming back from the major gross errors in the work. PS this doesn't include the vertical cracks that now appear in the walls and the hours of cleanup that was required by us because he used extremely cheap masking tape that they he obviously couldn't remove on his own without time, and constant smoking on the job and leaving cigarette butts everywhere. read more

Good work by a real craftsman. If you have seen a drywaller at work--or especially if you have tried it yourself--you know that doing it right takes experience and care and skill. Ron is very good at what he does. We had what looked like a small job when a nail got pulled out of a pipe (a strange deal--the pipe had self-sealed when the nail went in). Cut outs were required on both sides of the wall for the plumbers to get in. There was a tricky textured surface on one side--Ron matched it and smoothed out the other side (in an attached garage) perfectly. He came on very short notice and finished his work in a day, which is what we needed, so we were very pleased. We didn't have time to get competitive bids--I would suggest doing that--but we have no complaints at all about Ron's work. read more

I cannot speak to his drywall skills, we never made it that far. I should have paid more attention to the 1 star reviews, because my experience was very similar. Ron and Paula were quick to come give an estimate, but were extremely difficult to get any sort of response from after that, disappearing for days. That was the second sign I overlooked. I cleared out the entire garage in preparation, then the morning that they were to arrive I received a text asking for the gate code they already had. But they weren't actually at the gate, I walked down to the gate, but they were not there. 10 minutes went by and I followed up to see if they were able to get in. Nothing. Called and sent a couple more texts asking what was happening and after an hour of no responses I gave up on them and went about my day. A few hours later I sent a final text to fire them for wasting my time and being so rude and unprofessional. A few hours after that I finally got a response from Ron. Here's exactly what it said, "Sorry wasn't feeling good to much right now so find someone else go @#$% you self off". Yes, that's actually how he communicates with customers. Funny, I thought I'd hired them for drywall work. When I fired them, I used no such language, so his response was totally inappropriate. Moral of the story - if you're interested in being jerked around by someone who may or may not have any intention of following through, then by all means hire Ron and Paula. Here's a story about Ron, and how not to do drywall. My company subcontracted Ron to repair a hole in one of our customer's ceilings. We did so based on his numerous 5 star reviews here on Yelp. Did our business over the phone, got his estimate, and sent him off with this warning: "This is an extremely particular customer. He is extremely concerned about this hole in his ceiling, and he demands that we do a perfect job. Please do your utmost to repair this job completely." So far so good, right? Prompt response, quick quotation, and immediate service. Nothing to complain about thus far. Imagine our surprise when the customer called us this morning, telling us that Ron was standing on his kitchen counter, on top of a 5 gallon bucket, having brought no drop cloth or ladder! What could we do but order him off the job? Who tries to do drywall work, on a ceiling, without a ladder, with no drop cloth, standing on a customer's countertop, ON A BUCKET? Who does that after being told that this is a very serious job, and must be done perfectly? I have no idea if Ron is good at drywalling, because he failed the basic test of any craftsman - not having the tools for the job. Being prepared for the work at hand is the foundation of any contracting work. Ron failed at that, and now we're dealing with the aftermath of a situation that never should have occurred. I had some water damaged drywall and hung new sheetrock myself, but I knew my limitations and wanted to hire someone to come do the finish work with emphasis on matching the existing knockdown texture.
