They left several large chunks of trunk (2 1/2 feet by 4' long) and said their saw chain broke but "don't worry they'll be back". They are still there. The biggest. most damaging problem is that instead of removing the fallen tree, they dumped a huge pile of trunk sections down an embankment at the rear of my property, then hid them with leafy branches. Joe took 3 weeks to return my call, and 2 months to come out and look at the problem. When he came out he said he didn't know what to do, but he'd call a guy. He came out with the guy, but they've never been back. He got sick. He got hurt. He was in rehab. Now, Joe does not seem to have a physical address where he can be reached, as my lawyer has tried. His website lists Elkins Park, but that is for a condo, where he has no connection for many years. There are many more reliable tree cutters than Joe Hughes Executive Branch- try someone else.

They were able to access the tree without going on the neighbors property, even though I had the neighbors permission to do so. They did a beautiful job of taking off the offending limbs on my side without destroying the shape of the tree. While they were here on the second job, I mentioned that I felt that my front yard tree could have used a little more removal of the chipping. They promptly went out front and did so. I will definitely use them again.

The crew showed up on time at the agreed upon date. This vendor had previously done work for me with no problems on a prior job and I was expecting everything to go smoothly. I even referred them to my neighbor who hired them for some additional work to be done while they were onsite at my house. Unfortunately, there was a disagreement about what 2 large branches were supposed to be trimmed on a large oak tree. I did not get the work done that I had agreed upon with Jordan. I needed a large branch removed that was in danger of falling on my neighbor's shed. That had been discussed at length with Jordan and was the primary reason for the job. A different and much smaller branch was removed instead. Stump grinding was part of the job and that part was completed as agreed. The stump grinding equipment was left in my neighbor's driveway and a truck came to pick it up. The truck drove across my lawn. This was really not necessary since the equipment was parked in a driveway and easily accessible without driving across my lawn. This is not a big deal for me (my lawn is ok) but some folks do get upset about this stuff. Misunderstandings about which branches were to be trimmed can happen. However, I don't feel that they really cared to try and resolve the issue with a reasonable compromise in good faith. Poor attitude. I paid them in full for taking down a different branch and will now have to hire another vendor to finish the job. This vendor is no longer welcome on my property. If you do use this vendor, make sure you get each branch clearly marked.

Price is important, but with tree work, I believe safety, experience, equipment, and professionalism matter just as much. From the beginning, MG Tree impressed me. Their website is excellent--professional, easy to navigate, and packed with useful information. Their sales representative, Joe Hayden, arrived promptly, was professional, and had an estimate for me within hours. Best of all, he didn't try to upsell me or walk around my property looking for other work to sell me. The job itself was challenging. I have two very tall tulip poplars, my yard is on a hill, and the trees sit right on the property line with a driveway on each side. MG Tree showed up with the right equipment--a crane and bucket capable of reaching about 50 feet and maneuvering from one location to another. Other companies were talking about ropes, lifts, and repeatedly moving equipment around. That made me nervous. The crane gave the crew tremendous control over the trees, timber, and debris. Nothing was damaged. The foreman, Damian, was pleasant, polite, and professional. They did everything I asked for and more. And when they left, the cleanup was so thorough that you could hardly tell they had been there. Here's the part that really surprised me: despite having better equipment and a very professional operation, their price was extremely competitive--in some cases about half the price of less-equipped companies.
