We arrived by train; you walk about 20-25min to the house and a taxi is recommended if you have a lot of luggage or children because it goes uphill and then downhill when you walk. We were greeted like old friend by Andrew, the owner. Our first time, we had a twin room with ensuite on the top floor not facing the sea which we didn't mind at all as we really wanted a good night's sleep and not the noise from the street. The breakfast is really fantastic. Every day I tried a different one and until today I can't really decide which was the best. They were all delicious. Andrew was very helpful to give tips what to do in the area and how to get to places. The city centre is just 5min away if you short cut up the hill and through the park. We had a wonderful stay at Glencree House and do recommend it! The second time we had a twin room with half-view of the sea and an insight into Andrew's backyard. We heard his kids playing in the garden which wasn't a problem as we weren't in most of the time anyway. Nothing had changed since last time, same hospitality, great breakfast, clean and tidy room. Thanks to Molly and Lisa for being a great help to Andrew and Lynsey. We had a wonderful time in Glencree House - only the poor neigbour's dog that seemed to be shut out of the house very often, barking at the door, was something to get used to - and nothing was too much for Andrew and Lynsey, always helping out with so many things. I very much appreciated the help they gave when I needed a printout for a flight ticket and they offered to print it for me. Thank you again. I have been to so many guesthouses now but Glencree is always my No. 1. Room Tip: Rooms facing the street are quieter as it's a side street but rooms facing the sea have a wonder... Green Features: The house has only family and friends tested shampoo, shower gel and hand soap, and delicious breakfast where the food comes from local farmers.

My sister-in-law found this hotel through Condé Nast or the like and wanted to go enough that we…read moredecided on Cornwall instead of Wales for our weekend in the UK with her. The hotel is old and classic, but modernized enough to be thoroughly comfortable. We got a room facing the pitch and putt out front, complete with double bed and built in bunks through a travel website for the last weekend in August. The room was large and well-appointed with comfortable beds and crisp linens. The sink taps were separate for hot and cold, and the shower either ran borderline-burning hot or cold. There was very little air flow in the room unless the window was open. The hotel was classically decorated. I loved the "library" on the 1st floor with its book wallpaper, LEGO model of the hotel, and modern dog lounger. There's a large double stair case, with seating at each level, much needed since the elevator isn't terribly fast. The lounge area, which we were told used to be the ballroom, had a seating area at each window to enjoy the views. There was a patio outside with a glass windbreak for the same purpose. There's a spa area downstairs, and there's a booklet full of treatments available. We didn't try to book any, but we did enjoy the pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, and aromatherapy showers. While in the sauna, another guest informed us that they were booked for 48 hours solid anyway. Just having access to the aromatherapy showers was a lovely treat after a day of hiking in the coastal air. We ate our evening meals in the lounge area, not having seating at the Terrace (the casual restaurant), not having brought proper dress for the formal dining room, and enjoying the comfy chairs and couches. The full Terrace menu was available. The first night we quite enjoyed the mussels, rocket salad, fresh herbed mozzarella balls, the soup of the day, and the 5 Super Food salad (which changes daily, but always features 5 super foods, so you get the key nutrients in one sitting). Everything was tasty, especially that salad. The second evening, we split the vegetarian platter and the small version of the super food salad. We were quite full the second evening from enjoying cheese and crackers (which we bought at the Sainsbury's in town) while watching the sunset from one of the brick alcoves built into the seaside hill below the hotel. There about 2 dozen alcoves of brick or stone built along the side facing the beach or the coast, though only a couple had chairs. I would think they would've been quite crowded at a different point in the season, since they afforded such lovely views and provided just enough a windbreak. They're incredibly dog friendly and kid friendly. There were dogs and kids running around everywhere the whole weekend. Many folks brought their dogs and kids into the lounge area while they dined. Obviously, you go for the views, but the hotel was a lovely enough experience on its own to make it worth the trip.

However, the shower cannot keep one temperature - complaints among three rooms that my family members were in. That is ridiculous - its 2012 and we are in a developed country. At midnight the alarm on my clock went off. Again, the room maid should be checking that during every cleaning between guests to make sure that doesn't happen. I asked someone to come up in fix it. They sent someone up who hadn't touched one before and was new. After three or four minutes I asked him if he knew what he was doing and he said he didn't ......... I asked him to leave and just unplugged it. My cousin had her wedding here and it went perfectly. I would give it five stars on that.

Tregenna castle is located in a fine position over looking St Ives. They offer extensive gardens…read more Here is some information about this hotel that I found on the Internet. Way back in 1774, Tregenna was built as a 12-bedroom private home for a wealthy Cornishman with a love for the sea. Samuel Stephens Esquire commissioned the build of the house from local granite, and the four castellated turrets and original glazed skylight with the family coat of arms can still be seen today. The house remained in the family until it was sold by their final heir, John Stephens, to a family of local bankers, the Bolithos, in 1871. The Bolithos acquired the house at the same time that Brunel was building the Great Western Railway from London to Penzance to serve the West of England. It was then fashionable for all the great railway companies to establish destination hotels by the sea. GWR discovered Tregenna Castle with its spectacular views overlooking St Ives Bay and decided to lease it from the Bolitho's in 1878, before purchasing it in 1895. With the help of local craftsmen, the original house was extended to include new function rooms, a restaurant, adjoining kitchens, and a hallway leading to the main reception area. Thanks to the exceptional quality of the work, and our show-stopping location, it wasn't long before Tregenna became the 'Jewel in the Crown' of the GWR hotels.

Everything about the place and the people who run it was superb! The owners are friendly, charming people who go out of their way to make you feel welcome, comfortable and really at home and the accommodation was first class for an extremely reasonable price. The house is set within it's own secluded landscaped grounds with extensive woodland, a small lake and a fabulous leisure complex which includes a heated indoor swimming pool, hot tub, tennis court, table tennis and a limited range of fitness equipment. We'll certainly be going back there - a truly fabulous, enjoyable and great value stay in lovely surroundings!

The house is nearly 300 years old and retains that 18th-century charm (and tiny doorways), but is fully modern where it counts. The location is great, right where Fore Street meets the Wharf, although that means it might not be your quietest option. The price was very reasonable, and although I never needed anything, the manager made herself available and reachable and was very friendly and welcoming. My room was The Hepworth, which would have been close quarters for more than one person but was appropriate for just myself. I loved the inviting ground floor sitting room with a tasteful little library and a topped-up shelf of fresh fruit and flapjacks. Clean and dainty, easy recommendation!

Within minutes Debbie had us in our room and settled. It is a 3 room boutique style B&B in a lovely house right in the midst of St. Ives down on the harbour. It is a short 5 minute walk from the train station. Our room had a spectacular view of the harbour, and the sunrise the following morning. It was truly a million dollar view. The bed was beyond comfortable with fantastic pillows and bedding. The room was well equipped with a mini fridge, tea and coffee, and a modern en-suite bathroom. The breakfast room was bright and spacious, with a fantastic view of St. Ives harbour to inspire you to get out and enjoy the fresh sea air. Breakfast had a good variety of choice with fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt and a choice of fry up. The bread used for the toast has to be mentioned so yummy and such nice thick slices. Debbie and Carl our hosts were lovely, very welcoming and professional.

Stayed at the Boats, Peninsular Apartments, St Ives…read more There were a number of complaints, starting when we arrived as the apartment was not adequately cleaned - in fairness to CBH they attended and rectified that quickly. Whilst the listing of the apartment stated two spa passes, we incorrectly expected this to apply to two adults with free children - there was an expectancy that in a four person apartment all guests would have passes - this was not clear on their website and a main reason for our choosing this apartment. Whilst there were numerous apologies from CB and statements like "so sorry that you are disappointed with the apartment and your experience with Carbis Bay Holidays" "Please rest assured we will do our utmost to assist with any issues as quickly as possible during your stay" that doesn't go far when spending £2,200 on one weeks holiday and you continually have poor experiences. Whilst I understand CHB aren't responsible for the noise from the apartment above wooden floor, they fail to advise guests of the noise from weddings from the hotel next door which are often 5-6 times a week and until the early hours. Yet Cornish Gems who advertise in the same block are kind enough to publish this on their apartments! The noise from the hotel had been unbearable due to the weddings during our stay, however with another issue with the bar playing music from early afternoon till late at night, it feels as if you are in a nightclub~ I took recordings of the level of noise if they required but they ignored this. It is completely unacceptable. We have two young children and they have been unable to get to sleep due to the level of noise. It was my daughters 7th birthday on Tuesday and the video of her blowing out her candles, all you can hear is the beat of the music from next door at 3pm in the afternoon! CBH appeared to ignore most of my other feedback, including me pointing out that the blinds in the lounge and bathroom were illegally as they wouldn't prevent children choking if unfortunate to get caught in them, I wont bore you with the rest - they simply offered a £200 gesture of goodwill - less than 10% refund for a ruined holiday. To sum it all up I tried to post a review of the apartment on their direct website to allow people to be aware of the issues we have had, yet the website won't allow the review to complete, CBH holidays then stated they did have the review and were considering it. 10 days later when I chased I was told "Carbis Bay Holidays" have the right to publish whatever content they see fit on the website" Basically it is is a good review it will be published - if bad - they will ignore, so trading standards and visit England have been contacted. I then received a rudely from the Operations Director - "Carbis Bay Holidays will not be entering any further correspondence with regard to this matter" What a great way to do business......so please avoid.

We stayed at The Sanctuary, one of Carbis Bay Holidays St Ives properties and had an amazing time…read more We took our terrier on our hols with us, as this apartment is dog friendly and could not believe how nice it was, especially as some dog friendly properties are not the most luxurious. It was a five minute walk down to Porthminster beach and to the town centre, which was perfect, and we had our own private parking space which was much appreciated. It felt like a real home from home and my husband was over the moon as he had a Playstation III to play with. We enjoyed breakfast on the decking most mornings and loved the coffee making machine, which I miss now we are back home. For those that don't have pets, you wouldn't even know that it was pet friendly property, no doggie smells what's so ever. Will be booking The Sanctuary again without a doubt.
