The single star is only for the mani/pedi I got. First, I called and asked if they had gel polish and they said yes. Once in the salon, I picked out my color and waited. I was the only client, but the for some reason the tech sat 10 feet away from me and made me wait for ~10m before she came over to start my service. While waiting, I could take in the overall grunginess of the salon. I did not expect this at the Roosevelt, which is old but has charm and is usually clean. The floor linoleum was old and in need of replacement, or at least a deep cleaning. The pedicure was slipshod. My feet soaked in the lukewarm whirlpool for about 10m, then she took my feet out for the "massage", This consisted if her rubbing some lotion only on the front of my lower legs. Very disappointing. The manicure was borng as she made no attempt to make any sort of pleasant chit-chat, even when I did. I found out halfway through that they did not use gel polish, and both my mani and pedi had peeled off in a week. The whole thing cost me $120. It would have cost me $80 - with gel and much better service - in my hometown of Cambridge, MA. It's a good thing I downgraded from the deluxe mani/pedi, which would've set me back $145. read more

I went with a friend who I was visiting. I've done community mineral baths in Arkansas and West Virginia but never at the Roosevelt. Our attendant was really nice and told us the fascinating history. The steam room was a little small. The changing room provided lockers, robes, towels and slippers. You have your own room for mineral bath with massage table and bathroom. The bath was relaxing. The massage therapist was fine but her bedside manner was rather robotic. It felt like she was phoning it in. So just a little disappointed in that area. Otherwise it was nice to visit. I'm undecided if I would go back next time in town. Update: I woke up to sore shoulders so a little sad that my shoulders went from fine to owwww... :( read more

It could have been a five star review for the place and experience if not for big changes on our visit comparing to reviews of those others who had previously been there. 1st- the steam room now has a charge of $20 per use. Unlike before that it is included prior with your treatment. 2nd- the mineral water bathing price hiked up to $50/ 40 min session as compare to a $40 of recent review I have read. 3rd- the free snacks is not enough. 4th- the welcoming team in the lobby seems not interested to make you feel welcome. The only thing that I loved was the explanation of our spa lady about the session, the treatment and color of the water. She deserved the tip we have given. First of all ... I think $50 is crazy expensive for what is essentially taking a bath. I saw that only a couple years ago, a 40 minute bath was $35. (Heck, in the 1920's it was $1.25) I think $35 is more in line with the value ... especially given tipping is expected, so $50 + $10 tip is a $60 bath for 40 minutes. That's around $1.25/minute for a bath! I've always wanted to try it though, so now I can cross it off the list. Parking is a bit confusing because it's in the midst of Saratoga State Park, which is huge. There are several lots and not very good signage. Turns out Roosevelt Baths have a lot next to the building. I turned into the first lot I saw and walked into the Park Office where a lady instructed me to walk across a snowy field. Upon arriving, there was a rather creepy patio with furniture caked in spider webs. Inside there is a pretty vintage looking lobby. Two women were behind the desk and took my payment and one brought me to the locker room. Their had an incredibly pleasant and cheery demeanor ... almost TOO pleasant, like a dystopian episode of Black Mirrors or West World where robots were programmed to serve humans. The locker room was almost comically small. There is a rack of robes and rubber sandals (with a look straight out of Orange is the New Black). However, the robes went up to size 4XL, so you could really wrap up in them ... and they were nice, lined with a terry cloth towel-type material. The lockers are smaller than a kindergardener's locker. I put in my jacket and wondered how I'd fit everything else in. After cramming it all in, I locked up ... and walked to the waiting room. This looked like the spa at an Atlantic City casino. It didn't really fit the rest of the vintage vibe, with its tan lounges and purple walls and giant faux banana leaf plants. There was an area with teas and purified water and an odd bin of apples with the little plastic stickers on them. After about 5 minutes, my bath attendant arrived. She looked like an olympic athlete and talked about how she herself uses the waters for recuperation. She brought me into the room and went through the ritual. She said she'd return in 40 - 45 minutes with a warm towel. The bath tub itself was comfortable and deep. It goes down past the floor ... and as a large man, I had no trouble fully immersing myself. There was some lame Asian spa music playing, so I shut it off (the knob is in the bathroom, which each room has for some reason ... probably to thwart people who pee in pools.) and popped on some 1920's music to get in the mood. The bath was the perfect temperature ... not hot or cold. I decided to relax in the warm water for 10 minutes and then crank the (cold) spring water up, so there was more fizz. You can add more hot or cold as each tub has a regulator which makes sure the level won't get too high. I cranked the spring water tap, which shoots out cold under the water. For 20 minutes I soaked in a now warm-ish bath ... and for the final 10 minutes, I opened the spring water tap and made the bath luke warm but felt the fizz all over the hairs on my body. The water is yellow and gross looking ... oxidization from when the minerals come in contact with the air, I was told. It smells a bit like an old iron bar at the gym. The room looks vintage with white tiles, however the brown wooden doors gave it a bit of a 1970's vibe. They should have been painted white. At 40 minutes on the dot, my attendant knocked gently and her hand slid in with the promised warm towel. She told me to take my time getting dry. 40 minutes comes and goes quickly ... especially given that the bath is not hot. I felt like an hour would have been better. I did not really feel any different than a normal bath, despite the bubbles on my leg hair. (Why does that statement make me think of Joe Biden?) A bath always makes me feel relaxed and alert but I must be honest in that I had expected/hoped that it would make me feel something different. I didn't get out feeling like I could run a marathon or dunk a basketball again. I left the tip in an envelope and changed in the tiny locker room. Another guy came in with his robe and started to go in his tiny locker. We both looked at each other in the closet sized space and mercifully he said he was going to head to the waiting room so we didn't have to strip down inches from each other. All in all, it was an interesting experience but fairly overpriced. I don't think I needed little bins of apples, tea or a tiny gnome-sized locker room. Charge me $30, show me to the bath room, bathe, tip and leave without all the fuss. I really didn't feel much different than a normal bath but it was a cool experience, even if the value was iffy. The only bright spot was Katie, my massage therapist, who did a great job and really focused on some tight areas. If you decide to visit, please note that a mineral bath is not included, despite the website clearly stating that treatments begin with a mineral bath. I heard wonderful things about the spice I wanted to come and check it out. It's located in Saratoga Spa State Park sandwiched between Gideon Putnam hotel and the Automobile Museum. It's also close to Hall of Springs. There is parking to the left of the Roosevelt Bath there's ample parking and parking is free. The entry is warm and inviting they have products for sale as well as a front desk. Upon check in we were informed that one of the spa techs was out and so only one of us can get the treatment we requested so we had to make a choice on the spot. The other was given a free mineral bath I wasn't excited by the news but I understand in the current pandemic things can be very fluid and you have to pivot. I opted for the free mineral bath. Which was relaxing but without another treatment it was anticlimactic. I did learn that I wouldn't order a 40 minute mineral bath 20 minutes would suffice for me and it would definitely be after another treatment. The service was outstanding and was pleasantly happy on a cold Saturday morning. The locker room is too small for the amount of clients. They should really look into either expanding it or adding another one. The relaxation room was spacious and had comfortable seating areas with fresh fruit, water and herbal tea. read more

Booked a post Mother's Day/birthday treat day at the spa. I booked a sauna and bath for myself and hubby. The weekday pricing is slightly cheaper. Check the chart online. First we selected our aromatherapy scent at the front dear. Next, We were shown to the dressing rooms which provide slippers and robes as well as hair dryers, lotion, and cotton swabs. We first enjoyed tea and water in the lounge then helped ourselves to the sauna which was small but empty save for one other person. Note the saunas are separate for men and women. This was followed by a bath (swimsuits optional). My hubs said he enjoyed this place "way more than I thought I would". I enjoyed it as much as expected. Afterwards we relaxed on the outdoor seating for a spell. Great historic and relaxing place to be. Must visit when in Saratoga. read more

For what it's worth, you get what you are looking for without the bells and whistles. You want a soak? Check. You want a mineral water soak? Check. You want ambience? Check... When strolling down the halls, you either feel like you're a nurse making your rounds in the hospital circa 1930s or you were visiting an orphanage in the same era to see if there was a child you would like to adopt. Sorry, the place made me think of Netflix's Nurse Ratched and The Queen's Gambit. As much as I want to liken it as walking down the halls of an insane asylum, the place is more like a small town public school (thanks to the tiles, floors, color scheme, and water fountains). Each room being assigned to the patron have a private toilet where you can excuse yourself before and after using the sunken tub of brown mineral water. Yes, it's brown, that's normal, so don't be afraid to sit down in that. At the end of the private session of soaking, you will hear a knock on the door which indicates you have a towel waiting for you outside so wrap it up. The only thing I can think of improving for this facility is that they really should put a hook outside of the door or on the door frame for the towel. When I was in my birthday suit and opened up a tiny bit to grab my towel, I noticed it had fallen onto the floor. Now, I don't know if they purposely left it on the floor or was it supposed to be on the door knob and it had fallen but either way, you wouldn't want to use a towel that's been on the ground, right? Or, a better suggestion, why not just give the customer the towel before they go into their room? They can give the courtesy knock at 10 minutes to the finished time and that should be fine. It was my first visit to Roosevelt Baths & Spa as I normally go to spas in town. However, this was a surprise early Mother's Day treat so I was super excited. I always appreciate a gift of forced relaxation as life is always hectic and moving. It was originally for a different date but their website makes it quite seamless to reschedule which is always nice. I arrived 40 minutes early so I could look around and enjoy the relaxation room. Upon arrival I was greeted and shown where the relaxation room and ladies changing room area was. It was late in the day and I did not come across any staff members in the area and it was very quiet. I saw lockers with instructions on how to set a four digit code to store my belongings. There were shower facilities but I was not drawn to them as I came freshly showered. I saw that there were robes as well as rubber slippers for your personal use. Unfortunately it was a rather warm day so I could not take advantage of the robes. I checked them out and they were long and heavy and had inside furry lining. I definitely would've taken advantage if it was a seasonably lighter robe. Also I am not sure how I feel about heavy bath robes hung on an open rack. It is convenient and I noticed that it was in size order. I am more accustomed to folded laundered robes for my personal use but thats just a me thing. I think I would have liked having a staff member give me a short tour, especially as I was not familiar with the establishment. I came at a time where it was a quiet late afternoon. In the beginning I was told to help myself to refreshments in the relaxation room. I saw that there was a gentle waterfall trickling over a glass wall with soft music playing inside. There were plenty of oversized single lounger sofas and sofas for you to choose from while you waited. A table was set up with a bowl filled with apples for snacking and a hot and cold water dispenser. I saw various assorted tea bags available as well. As it was warm out I helped myself to cold water to stay well hydrated. I think that if there was a freshly made fruit infused iced water option available, it would have felt more extra. Just complimentary cold water was a bit ordinary. I also would have liked to try their steam room but it was not an included amenity. It was a little surprising as I was booked for the enhanced massage service called the Melt Away Stress Massage for 60 minutes. It's pricier than their regular massage options but does not come with anything more. The private room that I was in, had a small bathroom attached which was nice. I did see a tub in the room if you booked a water soaking treatment but it was noticeably orange and appeared rusty. Ed, my massage therapist was courteous and professional and gave a very thorough and relaxing massage. He was efficient and thoughtful and asked me if the music volume was to my liking. He also said that he could give explanations to any questions I had during treatment. Or, I could just zone out and relax comfortably which is what is typically the norm. I am not one to chat as I prefer to maximize my relaxation time always. I have had warm oil massages but this was hotter than normal but not in a bad way. I have never had warm stones applied and they too felt hot to me. The heat of it all was unexpected, but all in all nice once I got used to it. I went for the bath part only. It was very relaxing. I was told to arrive early and I could enjoy fruits and water in the relaxation room and hang in the saunas. It was a great idea. Next game the bath. It was really relaxing. The tub is very deep and you basically float. It reminded me a lot of those floating centers. A 40 minute bath is $45. If you go during the week, both the baths and spa services are offered on a slight discount. It is not the most beautiful place on the inside, very outdated and almost creepy in the halls, but it's historic so it's alright. The staff is very kind. You can also take a sip of mineral water if you'd like! I couldn't get used to the taste-- almost like a bag of nickels. read more

I usually bring my own polish for pedicures, so that I can touch up at home, but the technician (Carrie?) told me that they use products designed to work together to be long lasting. I wasn't sure whether this should be a 2 or a 3 star review. I've been to several spas in my life and I don't remember evergetting "skeeved". I got grossed out in the steam room...which was the first stop after check-in and hitting the changing room (which is very small). The steam room needed some serious cleaning - and an update. I understand that this is a historical site and many of the tiles are original from back in the day, but so much of it has an institutional feel. The steam room ick factor? Hair. Not mine. Not clean. Ok. Onward. The baths are nice once you get past the feeling of getting into a tub filled with dirty water. It's not actually dirty. It's authentic Saratoga out-o-the-ground mineral/spring water mixed with other, warmer water in a cast iron tub that is brown from said minerals. Initially, I had to get past the smell of iron and try to enjoy my 20 minute soak. I finally chilled out and did, in fact, relax a bit. Continuing onward. We had massages and mine was good. At first it was a little awkward; my therapist seemed a little new, but once he got going, he did a great job. We also had pedicures and really liked our nail technician. My experience with all of the staff was very positive. My concerns were around cleanliness in the common areas and while the reclining chairs in the "relaxation room" were pretty comfortable, they are rather worn out. Get ready to soak in 97 degrees mineral carbonated bath water For 40 minutes. Although 40 minutes is a long time to sit in this temped water. I had to leave the tub twice just to cool my body. I felt a little nauseous by the end of the experience but later in the day I really felt great. Not a single ache in my body! Just be aware the water is discolored due to all the minerals and elements. The Relaxation area is newly renovated and very Comfy with complimentary fruit and tea. There are lounge seats where you can lay down with a blanket before and after your treatments. A good place to spend a few hours and take a nap lol. There are fountains near the entrance where you can drink the real mineral water. Very carbonated and unusual taste. Steam rooms were not unisex. Also the steam room was a little far from the locker rooms for men which made no sense. Although an interesting experience not sure if we will come back to the spa. I did the 40 minute Mineral Bath. Price was $40 per person. Included bath, time in the relaxation room and steam room. I think it is a good experience to has as you tour the state park. The area around the Spa is really gorgeous :) Pro - Nice tourist activity you can try as it is located within the State Park - Price was reasonable, as Korean Bath and Spa is around the same price - They have nice selection of tea and couple fruits to enjoy - the place isn't crowed as they are reservation only, so all the employees attended us quickly - Nice showers despite the small space. They provide robes and slippers as well as basic shower supplies - Bath was nice. you're basically seating in warm water that is enriched with 'healing' minerals and the bathtub was long enough to fit my whole body as I am 5'10" Con - Relaxation Area gets crowed... even though there are chairs to lay down, hard to get one as there are quite a few people waiting - Mineral water is not the most relaxing appearance. I was there for a mineral bath soak which I enjoyed. However, before the bath they have you change in a locker room that was too small for the number of people changing. As a side note my robe barely fit around me comfortably. Next they send to to the relaxation room to wait. Very comfortable chairs and overall very awkward, sitting in robes with a bunch of strangers. Frankly it reminded me if sitting around the hospital waiting in the colonoscopy line. Not the most relaxing thought. If I go back for another mineral bath I will not use the relaxation room. A little too open concept for me. As guests in the hotel we had access to the steam room. My husband took advantage of that and enjoyed his steam. Keep in mind it is a coed steam room. In general the baths/spa looked very clean. The front staff welcoming. I visited for a deep tissue massage and a mineral bath and found it well organized and a nice change of pace. The Women's-locker room is a little small, but the treatment rooms very nice, but vintage (I loved that). It started with my bath, in a deep tub and I was able to add water as the bath cooled. So on a recent trip to Saratoga Springs to visit my Dad I discovered a whole bunch of warm-water mineral baths where you can just soak in a tub for about 30 minutes. While staying at the Gideon Putnam Resort, I saw the brochure for the Roosevelt Mineral Baths & Spa which can be found right around the corner. The Baths are located within Saratoga's Spa State Park in walking distance of the Gideon Putnam. From the outside this place looks massive -- a Gothic-columned, brick-faced facility. I made my appointment for a 40-minute soak ($30) and wandered over at the appropriate time to surrender my dignity and ease some of my pain. I was met at the front reception area by a very nice lady who explained that I would first go to the Men's locker room to undress and put on a heavy cotton spa robe and flip flops, and then relax in the waiting area for my therapist. She spent a few moments telling me about the history of this facility, and the therapeutic wonders of hydrotherapy. From what I was told, for more than a century, travelers flocked to Saratoga Springs to soak in the area's famed, soothing mineral waters. By the mid 1800's, bathing in the mineral waters had become a common health treatment. The historic Roosevelt Baths and Spa opened in 1935, and many believed that regular bathing in mineral springs was an important factor in preventive health care and that using the mineral springs assisted in reducing stress and strengthening the body's overall functioning. After a bit of Zen-like meditation in the Relaxation Room my therapist took me down a very long hallway to my private spa treatment room, and here I found a bathtub - sunken into the floor - filled with warm mineral-laced water. There was a small poster in the room listing the various minerals which were dissolved in the water, and the anticipated therapeutic benefits. The tub was deeper than expected - maybe three feet - so you really sank down into the water. The hydrotherapy spa staff drew the mineral baths to the proper temperature (97-100 degrees) by adding a small amount of hot, fresh water to the natural, cold mineral water. So for 40 incredible minutes, I soaked in the warm water, enjoying every single moment. After the soak I went back to the locker room to take a cool shower, and then down the hall to the steam room for a few more minutes of enjoyable relaxation. By the time my therapy was done I had worked the kinks out of my neck and back, and was feeling one heck of a lot better. For those who enjoy the pampered life, the Roosevelt Spa ofers a full line of luxurious massages, facials, and other beauty treatments. I found this place by accident two years ago when I was driving around the town. At that time, I didn't have time for anything. I came back to the area since then but never had time to use this spa. Finally after two long years of waiting, I finally made time for myself to enjoy the 40 mins of mineral bath. Wow, why did I wait so long? When I called to make reservation, I was told to come in early to enjoy the facility. So I did. I showed up 45 mins before my appointment. Staff showed me the women's locker, steam room, and relaxation room. I quickly changed to the nice robe to enjoy some time in the steam room, then laid at the nice lounge chair at the relaxation, enjoying a nice cup of herb tea. Staff came to get me and showed me to the bath. She did warn me how deep the tub was (we can't see the bottom due to its mineral water color), and sure enough, it was really deep. I soaked myself in the deep mineral water for 40 mins, relaxing my body and mind as they played nice calming music. I floated in the water for 40 mins and she gently knocked the door to let me know the time was up and had a warm towel for me. My mind and body was so relaxed after the bath, my whole body felt so light. We all need to treat ourselves from time to time. $35 was good price and I truly enjoyed my time here. I was in upstate NY Dec. 7-21, 2010. I had a hard time deciding if I wanted to visit a spa or not, and which one I should go to. OVERALL: I had a relaxing day, and nothing but good things to say about the Roosevelt Spa. (http://www.gideonputnam.com/Spa.aspx) SERVICES: I had chosen the Roosevelt Spa after reading Yelp reviews and stumbling upon the Spa in the Saratoga Spa State Park one afternoon wandering around. I decided I was here, and should just schedule an appointment if I wanted to have a spa day. I choose the Race Track Express ($135) (this was my first visit to a spa, and I wanted a variety of treatments). This weekday package included a 20-30 minute mineral bath, and a choice of one of the following: Half-hour Swedish Massage, Petite Facial, Back Facial, Spa Manicure & Paraffin Foot Waxing, Pedicure. And an additional choice of one of the following: One-hour Swedish Massage, Craniosacral Therapy, Reiki, European Facial, Teen Facial, Executive Men's Facial, Spa Salt Glow, Manicure & Pedicure. Before your treatments you are given a locker and can change in the locker rooms and then sit in the lounge where there is a variety of teas, water, and fruits. I would bring my own sandals next time, theirs are clean, but uncomfortable. Personally the mineral bath was the best part. It was like soaking in a tub of champagne. The bubbles tickle your skin as they float up from the bottom of the tub, (The mineral water is naturally carbonated.) making you feel weightless. The temperature is perfect, warm, but not too hot. Careful as you step into the tub, as the bottom is MUCH lower than the floor, and it is a bit deceiving since you can not see through the water. The mineral water comes in clear then oxidizes (turns brown) when it mixes with air, its not dirty water. Also, after each treatment, you are left an envelope, these are for tips. I held on to mine until the end when I paid for my take-homes as well as left tips at the front counter. That way I could tip according to the price of the treatment individually to be fair. Everyone there was cheerful, knowledgeable, and polite. When I told them this was my first spa experience, they were excited to talk to me. The first woman, who got me situated in my room, acknowledged the sterile feel of the halls. She assured me that the spa was originally built as a spa for the springs, and was never an asylum. read more

I was so happy to learn that the Roosevelt Bath and Spa was back up and running after the Covid shut down. It gave me great peace of mind to have my own personal room and bathroom that was immaculate and sanitized for my comfort and safety. With the lights dimmed and the relaxing music, I soaked all my blues away and was able to feel the healing on my tired body. It's so luxurious to soak neck to toe fully extended in the super deep long tub. I was so completely relaxed and cradled by the tingling water as I floated away my aches and pains. I love the atmosphere and the vintage historic feel of Americas first Spa and enjoyed reading the history of the Spa posted in the Spa reception area. The architecture of the building inside and out is so amazing, it's not just a Spa, it's a piece of history and a note worthy stop on any tour to the Saratoga area. The staff and manager were attentive to my individual needs and made me feel like a welcomed friend. If you are lucky enough to experience this Spa for yourself, I can not urge you enough to make it part of your visit to Saratoga. I am refreshed and looking to book my next visit! read more

Absolutely loved this bath & spa, however do your research if you're going to come here. If you're looking for state of the art luxury and the ultimate spa experience, this is not your place. However, if you're into mineral baths, relaxation and an appreciation of the Saratoga Springs history and culture, you will enjoy. Many of the rooms are still in their 1935 format; subway tile, muted colors, and a long, deep cast iron tub for mineral baths. I very much enjoyed the look & feel of the rooms but if you're expecting a modern day spa with bells and whistles, you may not. I came early and enjoyed relaxation and hot tea in the Rejuvenation Room as well as a 10 minute steam. I had a 20 minute mineral bath that was wonderful in temp, bubbly-ness and the fact that I'm 6'2" and could easily fit in the tube. I also had a 1 hour massage from Monika that was one of the better relaxation massages I've had in recent times. Like anywhere else, your experience will differ based on who your masseuse is. The locker rooms are small. If you treat them as a place to change, they are fine. If you are expecting them to be a place to lounge, socialize and spend time, these are not those kind of locker rooms. Overall, a fun and relaxing experience that made me appreciate the Saratoga of old. I'm certainly glad this place still exists. read more
