Roots has a cute little room for the kitties with toys and hammocks. When the doc came in he had treats and catnip. Exam was super easy and they don't stick things up your kitties bum. Before anything is done, they explain and go over cost. Anna our vet tech was so good with my little Portal. She was great to talk, knowledgeable and so kind. She was seen as a patient at Roots from May 2023 until her passing last month, Feb 2026. She was mostly treated by Dr. Sosa but also, occasionally by Dr. Lassen. The care provided by Roots is exceptional. Dr Sosa provided the best care that she could possibly have received. Kind, patient, caring, dedicated and knowledgeable. The staff was also wonderful. I wasn't planning on writing a review, but after seeing that Dr. Jennifer Jordan joined the Roots Vet team, I felt like I had to share my experience. I brought my 5-year-old male cat to Roots because he'd been vomiting frequently for almost two years. I was also there for routine vaccinations. During our appointment, I explained to Dr. Jordan that we had already tried several types of food--prescription, limited ingredient, novel protein--you name it. Her response was a mix of dismissive comments and strange theories, including the claim that hairballs "aren't normal." She seemed mildly concerned at first, but that quickly faded. Despite the ongoing symptoms and clear concern I brought in as a pet owner, her advice boiled down to: "Figure out what food works for him." As if that wasn't exactly what I'd already been doing for years. No vitals were taken. No bloodwork ordered. No follow-up suggested. I left feeling like my concerns weren't taken seriously--and honestly, like I was being made to feel like a bad pet parent. Thankfully, I trusted my gut and got a second opinion at Modern Animal Veterinary Practice. Thank god, because within a short time, they diagnosed my cat with an enlarged spleen, swollen GI tract, bladder debris, and a damaged kidney due to a renal infarct. All of these things could've been caught sooner if Dr. Jordan had taken a more thorough approach instead of brushing me off. I'm grateful my cat is now getting the care he needs, but I can't help but think about how much unnecessary discomfort he went through because he wasn't taken seriously the first time. If you're looking for a vet who listens, investigates, and actually partners with you in your pet's care--I'd strongly recommend going elsewhere. read more

Have been with Dr. Lassin since we moved to Austin- followed him from his last practice because he and his team are the absolute BEST. We drive from Northwest Austin to his practice in South Austin and I will never switch. They are kind, genuinely care and truly look at your pet holistically. We've had a few major procedures and the usual minor issues that come along with pet ownership. Each time they have guided us to the best decision for our dogs. I might mention- this is not the least expensive vet however they are incredibly straight forward with their prices and definitely give options. Recently one of our dogs had a pretty big surgery and we did price out a few different options. Roots was on the lower end of average. The trust I have in this team and Dr. Lassin is worth every penny. Plus they are all just nice humans. read more

This place is literally the best vet we have ever taken our bubbies to. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with a warm welcome. The space itself is designed to help keep your furbabies as ease, with more of a home-vibe than your typical starchy doctors office. Fully equipped with couches, chairs, toys and all the feels of home. Sometimes I wonder if my dogs even know they're at the Dr. (Hehe) all of the doctors and staff have been the best to work with. They really care about the well-being of your pet. If you have a furbaby who is a little skiddish when it comes to seeing the Dr, "happy visits" are a great tool to implement. A "happy visit" is simply bringing your fur baby into the office to get all the sniffs and smells and exploring in.. say hello to anyone on site and then leave without any treatments. We have implemented this with one of our babies and it has worked tremendously when the time comes for an actually visit with the Dr. All in all we can't recommend this place enough. We've been clients of Dr. Lassin since his previous practice and happily moved with him since he founded Roots. I actually hadn't been able to see the brand new facility until we had an emergency with one of our dogs last week and wow, I was blown away, it's clean and beautiful! We absolutely love Dr. Lassin and his entire staff. From the front desk to all of the Techs, they are all incredible. This past week we also saw Dr. Sosa and he was also incredible. While it's always terrifying to leave without your pet, the supportive care they provided and the frequent updates and friendliness just blew us away. Roots and always goes above and beyond for our dogs and for us! We would never go anywhere else. They are all so caring and attentive. When our oldest dog was sick most of the staff knew immediately when we came in because they remembered how loud he normally is when he's healthy. I just adore them all and we know we can always count on their entire team no matter how big or how small any issue or question is. It's also wonderful to have Veterinarians who are so knowledgeable in raw feeding. I've left practices before who would go on and on about kibble being the only way to go, and it's so refreshing to just list out their diets and hear we're doing a good job, or just tips on tweaking things for each of our dogs to improve their diets. The best testimonial I can give is that we usually only visit Roots now for yearly visits (or random emergencies). Our dogs have been so healthy following their advice! My dogs also love going to visit them and two of ours used to be very hesitant with previous practices. We followed Dr Lassin to Roots from his last practice. We have a senior kitty that is a flat faced breed so several various medical issues that pop up often and Dr Lassin is the most incredible, informative, patient vet I have ever met. I ask a lot of questions and due to my cat's age, I am always on edge with the slightest thing and he always takes the time to not just answer them but also explain the whys behind certain things. He is conservative with prescribing medications and always trying to give alternative holistic options which I appreciate. His staff is also always so extremely helpful and they always remember details about my pet which makes me feel so welcome. I can't tell you how refreshing it is to bring your animal here. The entire staff is fantastic, from the woman who schedules appointments, to the doctor himself. If you've read any of my other reviews about my experience with Vets in Austin, you'll see I've been through the ringer trying to find a good one. Roots is a good one... actually, a GREAT one. I love how genuine and caring the staff is! They worked with me, as a new patient who was supposed to have to wait til July for an appointment, and added me to their waitlist if anyone canceled sooner. I was overjoyed when I was able to get my dog seen that same week! Even in Covid-times, the appointment felt so personal and thorough. The doctor was fantastic and offered me so much insight, and hope with my dog's situation. Absolutely blown away by the quality of care and approach. This isn't my first pet, but when I decided to get a new puppy I wanted to try a new veterinarian as well. Someone that isn't just prescribing medicine, I want the care my pup gets to be similar to my approach with my own health. I don't want to just be pumped with medicine. So I found Roots and boy am I thrilled. First off the location is super convenient with lots of parking, which is important! The staff is all very nice, check in was easy despite COVID. But the wow factor was in the care that Dr. Lassin offers, which is beyond any other consultation I've ever had with any of my pets. Ever. Period. He had a ton of knowledge on different approaches to my pups well being, from tips on how to deal with his teething to what vaccinations were necessary and how to detox him afterwards. My mind was blown! Thank you Roots, for your excellent service and care. I was looking for a holistic style veterinarian clinic. When I called they were booked out for a couple months but were able to squeeze Creed and myself in. Dr. Lassin was one of the most professional and caring providers I have seen over the past 18 years of having pets. The warm welcoming feel of the clinic hits you right when you walk in. The staff is very friendly and helpful as well as providers. I would strongly recommend this place to anyone with a pet. Dr Lassin is fantastic. Yes it's kind of a bougie vet but that's why you make an appointment. My dogs are both "fine" by normal vet standards but both have had skin issues we've run the gambit for and anxiety for storms and fire works. I can't remember a vet ever sitting and talking me through everything and options but also going through wholistic options and root causes. Vs "just give her some Benadryl" We went in last week. Got a SIX PAGE write up on everything we're working on, herbal medicines and shots. New diet and within a week all of their skin issues are drastically improved and they're sleeping through rain. These guys and gals are amazing. Every single interaction I've had with the people of this clinic is lovely. Dr. Lassin and his team are extremely well-educated and thoughtful, and I take this as the highest compliment to my dog's care. I'm a skeptic by nature and have done an intense amount of research in regards to our current dog and her vaccines, foods, and preventative meds. Nobody at this clinic has dismissed me, pushed us into unnecessary treatments, or treated me like I'm a dumb layperson. And all of that feels so good. I'm absolutely convinced my dog is getting the healthiest, most thorough care this city has to offer. I'll probably be sad about this when it takes me an eternity to get an appointment, but I'm going to try to shove all of my friends and their pets to Roots so they know what real, honest vet care looks like! read more

I have a pet with a difficult medical condition and my current vet prescribed medications in an overdose quantity that exacerbated my dog's health. Concerned about his current status, hematocrit of 7%, I contacted Roots. I wanted to speak with a veterinary technician or a doctor prior to bringing my animal to their clinic. They are 45 minutes away. The receptionist felt it most important to refuse the opportunity for me to speak with the technician before I created an account for my animal and scheduled appointments for visits. My dog needs specific care that I'm not sure this clinic can perform. I am not interested in providing my personal information to someone who cannot provide care. I have 3 pets that need a new vet. After being turned away from my regular Vet (capital Vet) I drove down the road to Roots, pulled in and called. They took oUr concerns and immediately got our injured senior dog in. After they discovered the issue and steps to get her taken care of Dr. Lassin. explained everything to us and our options. He even gave us costs of all these options .without me asking. Which was nice as we are older and our business had been shut down because of Covid-19 and have no income at the moment. Not a practice that takes advantage of pet owners. We thank them for that. WE feel like Dr. Lassin and his staff really knows their stuff.Also we love his ideas on care/shots. I wish we would have had a Vet like him when our Ariel was a pup. We had been taking our pet Othello to Dr Lassin at his previous clinic and followed him here. One of the techs is also the same and the familiarity is great. They have always been honest with their diagnosis and on hand with the treatments. Our cats health has fluctuated in the last 6 months and so have been more frequent to visit them and there are 0 complaints from us when it comes to treatment and care. Dr. Lassin and his staff are absolutely amazing. I'm so excited he opened up his own practice. My dog has been seeing him for a year now for acupuncture, and it's the best decision I've ever made. I've heard great things about him way before that though. Dr. Lassin really takes his time with my dog and answers all my helicopter mom questions. I leave completely knowing what my choices are if advice was provided. I don't feel pressured in getting anything. I also just feel like he gets that I'm still in school so the most expensive option isn't always what I can do. I recently lost my dog Wally to cancer. It was an extremely tough time for myself and my wife, during which we had to see 8 vets in 4 months to try and find the right treatment plan. Cannot say enough great things about Dr Lassin and his team. Our dogs were patients of Dr Lassins at his previous practice and we were thrilled when he opened his own integrative vet clinic. Dr Lassin uses a balance of Eastern and Western treatment practices. He is very knowledgeable about natural and herbal options but doesn't hesitate if our pets needs a stronger method of treatment. We have two bulldogs who are prone to a variety of illnesses and medical challenges and he always makes time to see them when emergencies arise. I've had Dr. Adam Lassin attend to most of our large family of pets over the past year or two, and followed him to his new home base to continue the alternative health options that work for my allergy laden cat. Looking for another way to ensure that our very (very) old cat had quality of life when he took a turn for the worse, Dr. Lassin and his crew assessed our 19 year old kitty to see if there was anything they could do to make him more comfortable. Unfortunately it was our old man's last day, and he left peacefully the next morning. the Roots Vet crew did not even really know this cat - yet I received the most touching and personal sympathy card from them in the mail.
