However, any place that strives to make Elizabethtown a better, more diverse, more culturally aware place is really doing the Lord's work. Kat's is exactly that place and Elizabethtown is so incredibly lucky to have it. Kat's has all sorts of produce, products, and goodies from all over the world, all of which from what I've heard and been able to taste are beloved. They even have a frozen section for fun, tasty, exotic meats and such. I do have one glaring issue, which is most every product I looked at, especially the ones on sale, were past their expiration date. This is concerning, especially given the premium price they are asking for the products. Both the price and the freshness concern held me back quite a bit in my purchases. In spite of this, I am still so happy and proud to give Kat's five stars because I respect and appreciate their mission so much. You should absolutely come here and patronize this shop. It will really open your mind and palate to everything the world has to offer. You won't regret it!

My young companions and I did end up browsing the aisles to see what products the store offers. I must admit the cleanliness of the store was definitely a positive. The aisles and shelves are very organized and things are grouped in such a manner that it makes items easier to locate. Although they did have Thai Basil in stock, it was old and of poor quality so I did not purchase it. Quite a bit of the produce was not in the best shape. I did however purchase a non-produce item. The staff member at the cash register was very kind, interacted with genuine consideration of the young children whom were with me, answering several of their questions. He then offered them both a Pocky snack free of charge for both of them, they were ecstatic! If I am in the area and have need of non-produce items, then I will return to this establishment.

Condiments I've never seen before , mochi , ice cream. Fish balls (not too sure about trying those simply because I'm not a fish fan). They also have a tank with HUGE crabs. I will say this I'm born and raised in New York and spent a lot of time in China Town and I'm accustomed to the smell of fish. So if you're not you may be surprised when you walk in. The woman at the register was friendly and smiled when we walked in. The store itself was well organized and clean. As for the pricing it was definitely reasonably.

The meat was super tender and tasty. The best part was the sauce they bring out to the table in little squirt bottles. The red sauce was a chipotle flavored salsa and the green was just as amazing, maybe even more so. Prices were really reasonable, $1.75 per taco and other menu items were under $10. The only downside was that it took a little while (about 20 minutes) for it to be made. Of course, that means it was cooked fresh! I can't wait to come back!

Ok, I'll admit it, I'm a taco snob. No Taco Bell taco facsimiles for me. I want the real thing. The menu is not extensive, tacos, burritos, soup (posole on the weekends) sandwiches, and quesadillas but who needs an extensive menu? We are really here for the tacos, right? So, let's talk about the tacos. I'm a huge fan of tripas (tripe) tacos. Growing up in East Tennessee I would never have imagined myself willingly eating the intestines of any animal but here I am, longing for those delectable morsels of deliciousness on a good tortilla with lime and a fiery green salsa. Taqueria Hidalgo delivers. The tripe tacos (order it cooked crispy) are delicious. The owner tells me they sell a huge amount of the tripe tacos and I see why - each crispy little piece of tripe is an earthy, porky, bite of heaven. Add the standard onions, cilantro, and lime along with some of the homemade green salsa and it's an explosion of flavor in your mouth. For the less advanced taco connoisseurs, they also have chicken, steak, marinated pork, etc. but be aware these are Mexican style street tacos - no cheese and served on soft corn tortillas. I'm so happy we have this family run business in Richmond. It is an asset to the community. Check it out!
