Every part of my experience was stellar - from my conversations with the administrative staff before even signing up to the last moments on the track with the smell of burning rubber which had become oh-so-sweet to me. The background of the students can vary from no experience in stunts (me) to professionally working stuntpeople (some of my classmates), but the instructors explain and show what you'll be doing so that everyone understands. Their feedback is tailored for where you are while coaxing the best out of you, and if it's taking longer to click, they will patiently work with you until it does, never expressing frustration (even if you do) and reminding you to have fun. It's apparent, the passion for what they do as well as the expertise that comes only from thousands of hours of studying and practicing a skill, and they are generous with their hard-earned knowledge. The value of the cost of the course is a no-brainer. It makes sense because of the cost of materials alone (e.g., blown tires, serious wear and tire on the cars, fuel, track time, insurance), but the real value (nay, steal) is in what they share and how they share it, because it empowers you to create these unforgettable experiences that will far outlast however long it would've taken you to spend those few thousand dollars. Aside from their skill, it's just refreshing to be around a group of good people. I am really, really looking forward to returning for Level 2.

Here we are, almost 40 years old, and I decided to live out some childhood dreams (now that I have the time, money, and means to)! I chose Drift 101 because I know Naoki is one of the frontrunners for the west-coast drifting scene. I bought a full-day lesson for myself for my birthday and had my husband come along. There were 2 instructors to 2 students, we were both in 240SXs and basically took turns back to back doing drills throughout the day, with breaks in between to cool off (it was HOT, pro-tip, don't go in the summer, pick a cooler month), ask questions, and talk about the next drill/exercise. Having had ZERO drift or manual car experience, the instructors (Naoki and Ruben) were incredible - they catered the instruction to best help out my overthinking brain, and I was starting to see some things click. I think I did have to curb my expectations some, because I think I expected myself to be drifting at full speed around a track, but my skill level was definitely not there yet, and they're not going to move you to an advanced skill without a good grasp of the foundations. For me, it was a focus on left/ride slides, transitioning/linking them together, and donuts. I struggled with linking a slide into a donut, but Ruben and Naoki were constantly there giving me pointers and things to focus on for each 'lap.' I definitely recommend and have plans to go again and build upon my skills. It was a great, safe, no-pressure environment perfect for any skill level or level of enthusiasm.

There was so much seat time I actually looked forward to water breaks. Thanks again Naoki and Reuben!

Extreme Speed Sports Car Racing School THANK YOU EXTREME SPEED TRACK EVENTS!!! ----- Longer Review Our son is quite the car enthusiast. We visited Southern California - Palm Desert, Yucaipa, and Malibu - for Spring Break 2021. 00 - FINDING EXTREME SPEED TRACK EVENTS; INTRODUCTIONS We like Jay Leno's Garage (TV show) and knew of Willow Springs race track from his show... and we thought maybe we could race there. It out that Willow Springs is located north of LA, in the Mojave Desert, near Edwards Air Force Base. I explored Willow Springs' website and they have a list of groups who regularly race there, and who teach others to race there. I picked Extreme Speed Track Events and called and talked with Joel, who is very helpful. I explained that we just wanted to learn how to race, to safely go around the track and have a good time, and to maybe learn some "enhanced" driving skills. Joel assured me that is what they do, and we wholeheartedly agree... Extreme Speed Track Events can and will teach you how to race cars... on one of the most amazing tracks - Willow Springs International Raceway! More information about the amazing time we had: 01 - ARRIVAL We visited the office in the main building and the lady there pointed us to The Streets at Willow Springs. While we could see all the tracks from where we were we spent the first little bit in the building. They got us situated and got us breakfast - bacon and eggs and waffles... and flavored Starbucks in-a-bottle. 02 - PRE-DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS They gave us come classroom instruction in the building, about driving and tire tilt and camber... about how to read the track to determine how to set up one turn for the next turn. 03 - TO THE CARS We followed them for five laps, as they showed us how/where to position our cars on the course. 04 - THE CARS Our son and I each drove a stick-shift / manual transmission Toyota Celica... his black, mine white... that had been in the Long Beach celebrity Grand Prix... stock / factory cars with roll cage, lots of weight removed, and racing seats... and mufflers, etc. modified a bit, so they made a great rumbling noise. Our daughter drove a red automatic Toyota Solara, also stock with a roll cage. 05 - THE STREETS AT WILLOW The Streets at Willow has elevation changes and many curves. It's a thrill to drive. Given our novice status as drivers, our peak speeds were 85-90 mph, which was fast enough. Our track times were ~ 2 minutes. 06 - SKILLS SESSIONS After the first laps, then we had a combination of driving in circles, and high-speed braking. The circles were ~ 80 feet around... and by driving faster, and turning the wheel more we saw how that didn't help - turning the wheel more did not make us turn any more tightly... to get more traction you slowed down, steered back a little and then had more grip, better control. The fast braking helped us time going faster into turns, slowing, then powering out of the corners. 07 - DONUTS! Our son and daughter each got turns in the Miatas, making donuts and spinning out. Our son did some drifting on the skid pad, too! 08 - SCOOTERS As we were using the track one-at-a-time, they also had Honda scooters... which we rode to the other tracks... 09 - A RIDE WITH THE TRACK RECORD HOLDER I got to ride with Mark in his Miata, which helped learn what they were teaching us about slowing down and powering through the turn... 10 - AND THEN IT WAS JUST US In the morning, a father and son shared The Streets with us... when we were off-track learning, they were on-track, racing. We drove counter-clockwise and they went clockwise... they were tuning their racing Porsche for an upcoming race, and the 17-year old son was fast! They left around lunch time. Big Willow had several drivers on it in the morning, some Corvettes, Toyotas, Ferraris, etc. They also left around lunch time. 11 - HORSE THIEF MILE & BIG WILLOW After another round of laps on The Streets of Willow, Rob and Mark led us around several laps on Horse Thief Mile and Big Willow... in between we went to the skid pad and our son had an awesome donut/burnout... he was really having fun making smoke and was showing off what he learned this day! As we drove south through Antelope Valley, the sunset... to the right... a fitting end to a day that started with the sun rising to the east, to the left. What a day! I had a great experience doing the "Advanced Lapping" Day on the Streets of Willow track. I say "Advanced Lapping" day, because I have been through the other courses offered at Fast Lane and obviously keep returning. I have been to other Racing Schools this year and I have to say 3 things that really make your school stand out as being a superior school. 1) Track Time: What a great amount of time spent on the track. I can't tell you how pleased I was with your track time management. We as customers want to drive and learn from hands on experience, so we need to be on the track and not tied up in a classroom for hours. 2) Instructors: Your instructors were pleasant and offered up detailed instruction in order to improve as a driver and decrease lap times with accurate feedback. 3) Follow up: Most schools never follow up after finishing the program. I love the fact you take pictures and post them. I love the fact that you send a follow up email thanking us for our participation. These are so important. Thanks again :)

Several years ago, we used this driving school for my eldest daughter. Her instructor, Mike, was excellent: patient, professional, and well-organized. Based on that positive experience, we signed up again on December 27th for my middle daughter and specifically requested Mike. We were told this would not be a problem as long as we were willing to wait a few weeks. What followed was over a month of disorganization, poor communication, and ultimately disrespectful treatment by a staff member named Dave, who insisted on handling everything exclusively via text message. We were never provided a calendar or scheduling system. Instead, we were asked to manually text availability months in advance, which we did -- repeatedly. Despite multiple follow-ups, Dave kept saying he would "get back to us" to schedule Mike, but never did. After weeks of trying to lock down a date, I finally called him directly. That call was shocking. Dave was abrasive, dismissive, and offered no solutions. He abruptly informed me that there were now no available dates until mid-March -- more than two months out from the call, and nearly three months from the date we paid. He refused to escalate the issue or let me speak with anyone else, and made no effort to offer alternatives. After this experience, I went back and read the recent reviews -- something I regret not doing sooner. There is a clear pattern in the last few years of complaints about scheduling failures, lack of follow-through, and poor communication. Earlier reviews (2018-2021) paint a very different picture, largely praising instructors like Mike. Something has clearly changed. We did eventually receive a refund, but that doesn't undo the real cost: we lost over a month of time and delayed our daughter's ability to get on the road and practice. My advice: do not rely on past reputation alone. Read the most recent reviews carefully before booking. Based on our experience, this business is no longer operating at the level it once did.
