Every part of my experience was stellar - from my conversations with the administrative staff before even signing up to the last moments on the track with the smell of burning rubber which had become oh-so-sweet to me. The background of the students can vary from no experience in stunts (me) to professionally working stuntpeople (some of my classmates), but the instructors explain and show what you'll be doing so that everyone understands. Their feedback is tailored for where you are while coaxing the best out of you, and if it's taking longer to click, they will patiently work with you until it does, never expressing frustration (even if you do) and reminding you to have fun. It's apparent, the passion for what they do as well as the expertise that comes only from thousands of hours of studying and practicing a skill, and they are generous with their hard-earned knowledge. The value of the cost of the course is a no-brainer. It makes sense because of the cost of materials alone (e.g., blown tires, serious wear and tire on the cars, fuel, track time, insurance), but the real value (nay, steal) is in what they share and how they share it, because it empowers you to create these unforgettable experiences that will far outlast however long it would've taken you to spend those few thousand dollars. Aside from their skill, it's just refreshing to be around a group of good people. I am really, really looking forward to returning for Level 2.

Here we are, almost 40 years old, and I decided to live out some childhood dreams (now that I have the time, money, and means to)! I chose Drift 101 because I know Naoki is one of the frontrunners for the west-coast drifting scene. I bought a full-day lesson for myself for my birthday and had my husband come along. There were 2 instructors to 2 students, we were both in 240SXs and basically took turns back to back doing drills throughout the day, with breaks in between to cool off (it was HOT, pro-tip, don't go in the summer, pick a cooler month), ask questions, and talk about the next drill/exercise. Having had ZERO drift or manual car experience, the instructors (Naoki and Ruben) were incredible - they catered the instruction to best help out my overthinking brain, and I was starting to see some things click. I think I did have to curb my expectations some, because I think I expected myself to be drifting at full speed around a track, but my skill level was definitely not there yet, and they're not going to move you to an advanced skill without a good grasp of the foundations. For me, it was a focus on left/ride slides, transitioning/linking them together, and donuts. I struggled with linking a slide into a donut, but Ruben and Naoki were constantly there giving me pointers and things to focus on for each 'lap.' I definitely recommend and have plans to go again and build upon my skills. It was a great, safe, no-pressure environment perfect for any skill level or level of enthusiasm.

Naoki-San and crew are the real deal. I showed up expecting a chill birthday session, share some…read moreseat time with other class mates, and eat some cake while chatting about cars. Instead, I got a full day 2:2 (2 instructors: 2 students: 2 S14 drift cars) full drifting science clinic. Explanations and tutorials were professionally delivered with a whiteboard. You can tell the team is passionate and knowledgeable about both building and driving performance machines. Expect to drive a LOT! There was so much seat time I actually looked forward to water breaks. Thanks again Naoki and Reuben!

She came home absolutely raving about the amazing time she had and how much fun it was! She spoke so highly of her counselors, Natalie and Esmie, and said they were incredibly kind and supportive. It really made a difference in her overall experience. A couple of minor downsides: she mentioned the "Yapatorium" (the sanctuary) had a lot of talking (I'm sure it was educational). Also, one of the bathrooms either didn't have a working lock or the lock was broken, so the girls had to share another bathroom or have someone stand outside for privacy. Food-wise, there were no issues, but my daughter didn't love most of the meals. She said the pizza was the best and the tacos were her least favorite. However, when I spoke with some of her cabin mates, they said the food was good -- so this may just come down to personal preference (she can be a bit picky!). The registration portal was very easy to use, and the website was up to date and helpful throughout the process. Overall, she had a wonderful experience and came home with great memories.

I, too, was genuinely concerned because--for some reason--the reviews for this place seemed negative; however, it turned out that all the children were absolutely delighted. Their teacher sent us photos--the very ones I've included in this review--and the food was very wholesome, delicious, and fresh. The children were allotted four minutes each for showers; however, I don't view this as a negative thing, as there really are a lot of children, and you simply can't allocate a vast amount of time to each individual without causing long delays for everyone else. The kids didn't even have a chance to get bored. My daughter usually spends her days at home glued to her phone or the TV, and she's not easily impressed--yet she really loved this camp.
