There are two doors to their Rue des Martyrs, one is for takeout and the other is for table service. There were a lot of savory and sweet options at their takeout location at the beginning of the day. As it gets closer to closing time, there were many fewer options. Their hours were not posted on either door. Google map said they open at 9am, however, there were no savory items available for takeout at 9:23am. They only had desserts at that time. Their website says the takeout opens 10am-7pm. During one of our visits, we had the quiche and croque monsieur. Both were very very good. If I had a little more money to spend, this would get 4.5 stars. Right now, it's only getting 3.5 stars, so I'm rounding up. (I would feel kind of bad giving Rose Bakery 3 stars because I DO like it a lot). The first time I came here, I shared the tarte salée with one of my friends, which was really awesome :D I don't remember which tarte I got, but I actually shivered a little at the first bite. Incredible. :O The haricots verts had citrus zest, which was refreshingly lovely. The salad just tasted very fresh and delicious. We also got the asparagus & eggs, but those were not very spectacular. They were just asparagus and eggs. (Oooh! Bonus point for sharing-friendly environment :D Most French restaurants don't approve of sharing, so it was really nice that they made no fuss about it at all). I also got the gateau thé vert with framboises - oh my goodness, totally the best cake I've had in Paris (not counting moelleux au chocolat. They're just a different category. Nor the tiramisu, which I'll write about later ... that's different, too). Seriously, this was SO GOOD. I'm a huge fan of matcha green tea and I loved the way they incorporated it and the raspberries (which I also love) into the cake. Mmmm. I'd say it's worth the 6€. :x I ended up paying only 13€ for my meal (since I had shared with my friend). Yay! I do have to warn you, though - sharing is not for people with large appetites. It's entirely too easy to devour une tarte salée by yourself. (Oh! Another bonus point - they allow you to take things to go :O All these nice things about English-French fusion food. Yay!) The second time I went here, I inadvertently spent way more than I intended to :x I got the tarte salée and a soja-banane-myrtille smoothie. The tab came out to 21€, ouch. I actually didn't eat all of them (I gave half of the tarte salée to a friend and I shared the smoothie with another friend). This time, I got the pasta salad as a side. Pretty good :) I also got the carottes rapées, which had been enthusiastically recommended to me, but I thought they were rather mediocre. The smoothie is good, but it's not really all that special. You can't taste any blueberries at all (though the color shows that there may be some lurking there). It's also not cold, which is a little unusual to my American palate for smoothies. I wasn't looking for an ice-cold drink (I actually don't like them), but the smoothie was lukewarm. Strange. Overall, the food may seem a bit overpriced. However, it's very fresh-tasting and it's very good for vegetarians. read more

I visited the Rose Bakery on Rue des Martyrs. I heard and read some raving reviews about it so stopped by. Firstly when I arrived at about 4pm the counter was bare, bar the sorry looking salad sitting in the window. After having a coffee, I ordered a browning to go. The server asked me how large a slice I wanted and I opted a somewhat small serving. I was HORRIFIED to pay 4,70euros for it. However with the raving review still in mind, paid. Upon tasting, I found my brownie to be dry and a gooey mess in the middle. And not the mouthful of heaven I expected. The service also was awful especially considering that its meant to be run by someone who is English. The sever was unfriendly and down right rude to me. We knew of this place because we had bought their cookbook at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts shop during a French art exhibit. The recipes are terrific/delicious - French bistro fare. So, when we were in Paris, we had to go. My wife, daughter, her friend and I had a terrific meal here two years ago. Line out the door at lunch. The locals know. Delicious. Very small, intimate. Tough to find as they don't have a storefront, but worth a search. Understated is an understatement for the interior decor: rotting paint and factory tables give a rustic feel, just teetering on the edge of "well, we rally just didn't care". Though pricey at €19, the menu is quite nice. We had a perfectly-cooked chicken breast with a perfect glaze, nicely steamed green beans, and some chewy brown rice that went so well with the spill-over chicken glaze. Salads are fresh and nice, broad leaf and mostly lettuce. The omelet was cooked perfectly, if not a bit boring and lacking creativity. Pastry looked stunning, as do most in Paris, but we didn't venture down this lane. Oh, and the bread and butter they gave us for free throughout the meal is, in itself, so worth the visit. My gosh, this brown bread was perfectly spongy on the inside, nicely crunched on the outside, and very satisfying in its consistent free-ness. Worth a revisit, certainly worth a stop, but not quite so special for a five-star rating. read more

Rose Bakery near Montmartre was the last place where we ate on our Paris trip. Since having to choose would be cruel to ourselves, we decided to try a selection of five different cakes. Green tea cake, pecan pie, gluten-free chocolate cake, a brownie and a muffin. Yes, we went all the way. There are four Rose Bakeries in Paris: 46 Rue des Martyrs (where we went), 30 Rue Debelleyme, 10 Boulevard de la Bastille and 24 Rue de Sèvres (at Bon Marché). It isn't cheap, but it is cosy with good service and their selection of teas is really good too. If you want a little break with a slice of cake, Rose Bakery is a nice option. read more

It's fashionable but you pay more than you should, wait in a warehousing corridor, longer than is reasonable for regular food. I was not too satisfied w the experience. The wait staff even though well meaning, seems in a state of medicalised calm and orderly confusion. Sorry guys I understand it's radically cool but my pain I pay while running. read more

They were really nice considering my french is really atrocious and I speak it like a three year old. I tried their coconut macaron- a combination of an american macaroon and a macaron. It was just the right amount of sweet and salty and it was a wonderful breakfast treat. Their coffee was alright- at least it wasn't the nasty drip coffee we have in the office. They're open early so you can get your baguettes and whatnot before all the brunch goers get there. read more

I love this place!! I stumbled across it when going to an appointment and so glad I found it!! It is kind of rustic looking but that gives it a unique charm and character. The owner was very nice. The baked items were fantastic!! I had an oatmeal cranberry cookie that was very good and I also bought a banana raspberry cake I am looking forward to tasting. We went twice during our vacation, and once to the Marais location. It's a busy place and isn't full of warm fuzzies, but the food and coffee is good, and the salads are terrific, especially if you're feeling vegetable-deprived. I had the porridge one morning and scrambled eggs another. The eggs were perfectly soft and fluffy (my husband had some, same result). Our kids shared juices and smoothies which were split for them -- thank you! Their pancakes were amazing as was the bacon. It can be hectic at the bakery, especially the first visit. If you stay, you order at the table, but pay at the counter -- you'll need to tell the person what you ordered. You can add items to go (might I suggest the cheesecake ;). Staff seemed to be fluent in English and French, which may be helpful to Anglophones. read more

A bit austere looking with concrete floors and antiseptic looking chairs and tables - but do not let that bother you. Go on in and order the assiette de crudités and you will get a lovely big plate heaped with the various salads-of-the-day. And most of them are meatless! But if you are a vegetarian do make sure to ask. They also have British cheese plates with Neal's Yard Dairy cheeses, nice soups and tasty anglo deserts (like carrot cake). It is a little pricey, a little too consciously chic/trendy, and I find that occasionally some items can be a little bland or not perfectly cooked. But for a plate or bowl loaded with veggies in a city that loves its meat and cream, this is where I like to come. read more

Boy did I get treated like poo-poo at the Rose Bakery. My friend and I came for brunch early to avoid the crowd and were seated by a member of staff. As people started coming in we were asked to move. Ok, no problem - no biggie. I ordered soft boiled eggs and was disappointed to find that out of the two eggs one was completely overcooked. No gooey runny egg for me. But then came the fun part. A waitress came over and asked us none-too-politely to move tables again. We explained that we were already on our second table - couldn't they find another solution? The waitress was not pleased with us (as evidenced by her huffing and puffing) and insisted that we move. No apology of any kind was offered. We stayed for another 5 minutes, then left. And that my friends is the story about how I decided never to go to the Rose Bakery again. read more

Terrible service and overpriced food!! Such a frustrating experience. Waited half an hour to be seated by slow, inefficient waiters; considering how crowded it is, you would expect the waiters to clear the tables when customers leave - but no, they really take their time to let you stand and wait while there are obviously free places inside. Then once we finally sat down, the waiters continued to ignore us and even took the orders of other customers who arrived after. Then they got our orders wrong. Seriously? How hard is it to prepare a soup and a quiche?! After waiting forever for the food to come, my quiche was cold at the centre. Enough is enough! Will never return again. read more

For any expat in Paris, Rose Bakery is a great place to go. Dont worry about struggling with your French, everyone that works there speaks English. It should be a relief to have some time to take a repos and enjoy some delicious organic food. Yes it is a bit expensive and of course if you go during peak week-end brunch, expect to wait for a table, but it is worth it. At least stop in for a coffee while strolling one of the most interesting culinary streets in Paris. read more

Rose Bakery is a slice of heaven! (Pun intended.) As a Californian abroad for years, my heart melted in joy upon finding the Rose. This quaint gem of a place is full of freshly prepared cakes and breads to the savory, plus a menu and shop of organic and responsibly sourced teas, veggies, coffee, and other treats. I basked in such comforts of the familiar, sipping wine over a late brunch of oh-so-French eggs and a scone. The service was great, the food was sublime, and all was immediately well in the world. one of my final food memories of paris. literally. i stuffed my face with a mushroom tart from rose at the airport because i forgot it was in my carry-on bag and didn't wish it to go to waste. it was a glorious, albeit kinda unexpected, shoving of food into my mouth. to many, rose is over-hyped and too expensive. this is true. the recipes are simple and people tend to complain, 'oh, i could've made this at home... for a lot less...' - but, guess what! you were lazy/you didn't have time and so you came to rose. i like rose. i don't like the service (i guess it's now considered a trendy privilege to be a counter girl at ze rose bakerrrr-eeee) or that tiny sliver of a hallway in the front, but the food is pas mal. it doesn't make me feel like crap and it's usually fresh. i owned the chic phaidon cookbook before coming to paris, and now i can emulate back home by taste (rather than by mere guessing) what i experienced. read more

My husband and I were in search of an alternative to a pattisserie or cafe on our last day in Paris. Rose Bakery is conveniently located near Montmartre. The front of the bakery is very inconspicuous; be sure to have the address handy if you have hopes of finding it. When we arrived, staff was bringing in fresh produce for sale in the front market, and the days' salads, breads, and pastries were being put in the cases or cooling on tables. They offer a versatile breakfast menu which reminded us of several of the local and organic driven restaurants we frequent at home. We were delighted by the complimentary samples of baked goods, including the green tea and cranberry bread that accompanied my cappuccino. My quiche featured bacon, yet it was fluffy and balanced perfectly with vegetables. I would highly recommend the Rose Bakery for a casual breakfast or lunch, or anyone looking for prepared items to complete a picnic or meal at home. read more
