Let me preface this review with the info that I am not a horse person, so I do not have any biases as outside of the horse community. We have been to a few barns so i have a sense of what is good/bad. What I can tell you from an outside perspective is my daughter, who is a budding equestrian, has learned an immense amount from Myrtle Hill farm and the instruction of Kathrine "KT"Ginzton. she has competed in schooling shows and at Gold Coast and placed with ribbons. Personally, I could care less about the shows and the ribbons. What I care about is that my child is in love with horses and surrounded by a great community of caring professionals who challenge and support her. I fell in love with rbr at an early age. My mom took me there for lessons with MHF who is based out of rbr. The facility is well maintained, board is very reasonable given the stall sizes are double compared to other barns. Highly recommend. read more

While the setting looks nice, I cannot recommend this facility for boarding or training. Recent management changes and an onerous new boarding contract led to a significant number (~20) of experienced boarders leaving within a single month. There are also discrepancies between the advertised volunteer experience and reality-it is NOT all volunteer, you can't save money by cleaning your own stalls any longer but you might be able to provide labor for the for-profit training program. Management there is also possibly embarrassed or attempting to fool new clients, by not posting the new onerous boarding contract on their Wild Apricot website, as the old, cancelled agreement is still up there, as of yesterday. I strongly encourage anyone considering boarding at this facility to ask very hard questions, research public records and speak to current and especially former (we're around) boarders about their experiences before committing. read more

Prices for boarding are comparable to private competition barns, if you can afford to pay the new rates. You can afford better!

3 years ago I went on a search to find a lesson program for my daughter and rediscovered this hidden gem. Rose Bowl Riders & Myrtle Hill Farm has been nothing but amazing for me and my daughter. All the kids in the program are kind and supportive. They all have become family now. 24x24 Stalls are unlike anywhere else in this area. Arenas have great footing and are well maintained. The boarding facility is now being run by the owners and clients of Myrtle Hill Farm. They no longer have the best interests of the non profit established 80 years ago. I had to move my horse to another facility that actually cares about the horses and their owners. read more

this place is like a cult if you are not in with Myrtle Hill Farms, they will bully you. The husband and wife of Myrtle Hill Farms will bully people until they want to leave. Their are overworked and have physical signs of pain.. They also yell at children constantly.. I do not recommend joining this facility if you want to keep your sanity. read more

While this is a beautiful facility, it is not currently accessible to all Pasadena tax payers who wish to use the property. Certain members of the board of directors exclude people who have differing opinions on how the property should be run. If you can board there and not get drawn into the toxic interpersonal and leadership environments, by all means do so. However, I give it my lowest possible recommendation, having boarded all over the country and never experiencing such an unpleasant energy in my life. Love this place. From the moment we stepped on about 7 years ago. My daughter rode with KT and Greg for five years and they are like family. In fact, in the time that we were there we witnessed many kids taking to greg and KT like family. Kids grow up there, not only learning to ride and love horses but also learning responsibility, good horsemanship, kindness, volunteerism. It's the whole package there. We have since moved to another state but RBR is where my daughter goes first when we go back to LA to visit. They will always be family. Actually, we often marvel at KT's disposition - patience of a saint, so relaxed and chill. Always quick to smile and laugh. Can we all be more like KT? read more

Rose Bowl Riders is an absolutely amazing place! We are a family. I have had my horse there and have been a member for 14 years now. The trainers are beyond helpful and caring not only about your lessons but your horse. They also offer lessons for all ages! We have the best care for our horses and the facility. Rose Bowl Riders is a volunteer- and membership-based equestrian club and boarding facility. They offer lessons through their school program "Myrtle Hill Farms," which is run by K/T Ginzton. It is a little gem of a place that has a few decades of history and caters to beginners as well as seasoned riders and horse-owners. We have been members since 2021, and we love so many things about the place, the community, the people and the animals, the classes, schooling shows and the fun social events. STAY AWAY!! My daughter is still crying from her experience here. I signed up for a lesson and it was the most awful experience. They left her alone on the horse for 20 mins and the girl who was helping her disappeared. What a strange place where no one seems to care about anything. I had no idea it was so terrible here. Shame on them. I am disgusted with them and with myself for finding such a horrible place. read more

I don't have an opinion about the riding lessons, but I will say don't expect to win an event at one of the Rose Bowl Rider shows unless you are a student of one of their few well known instructors. If you are a student of one of these instructors, you can expect to win at least 1 or 2 events, followed by an equal amount of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc placements in other events. This ensures that everybody wins, that is unless you are not a rose bowl rider student. If your looking for a fair and honest competition, a Rose Bowl Rider Show is not for you. read more
