The management here is terrible and biased. Almost nobody who works for the Paddock full time speaks English except the manager's daughter who got made asst manager because her dad, the actual manager doesn't speak English). A few tips. Shavings for your horse's stall included in your board payment? And daily cleanings also included? Ha ha ha! Shavings are so low people are buying their own shavings because they're so sick and tired of complaining and getting no results except to be harassed for complaining. And daily cleanings? People are cleaning their own stalls if they want to have sanitary stalls for their horses, especially in the summer. And the Paddock doesn't want to provide water or feeding either and often insist that you sign on with one of the independent contractors for another few hundred dollars that they may or may not mention upfront. They may also try to insist that you sign on with a trainer even if you know you don't need one because you're an accomplished rider. And the worst of it is, they'll only push the trainers and others they're buddies with. Get used to it, the Paddock management is hardly fair. You'll get things done quickly if you pay a big tip (at least $20. ea time at least, to a management). Stop doing it and you'll get hated quickly. Management lives at the Paddock "24/7" but they REALLY close up at 5 PM and no one is actually pleasantly taken care of (unless they specifically like you or you tip them a lot) after 5 PM! read more

This place is wonderful. I had my first lesson here with Talia, she is the best instructor, very articulated, full of experience, and extremely friendly and patient. I had an opportunity to walk around afterwards during the horses meal time, and noticed the animals here are very well taken care off with people who love and understand them. I purchased a 30min riding lesson for Sagebrook Farms on Living Social and redeemed it today. I have never taken English riding lessons, but have experience with Western but I've always wanted to learn English. I had no idea this place existed! Sagebrook Farms is tucked behind a residential neighborhood and when you enter the grounds it's like you're not in LA anymore. 1st Star- Julie let me reschedule my original lesson. Something came up at the office and I had to work when I had scheduled to ride. I wasn't able to give 24hrs notice, but she was totally understanding and let me reschedule at no charge. 2nd star- Julie met me when I arrived and was friendly, sweet and very professional. She walked me to the office where I signed my waiver and then it was time to get started. 3rd star- The first thing we did was groom the horse I'd be riding which she showed me how to do and I even got to pick his hooves! Fidelio was such a great horse and very sweet. I didn't feel the least worried that he was going to be a well tempered guy to ride. She explained all the pieces of equipment to me and illustrated the difference between a Western and English saddle. Woo Hoo! Julie has a great teaching method. She explains everything slowly and in great detail which I love. I am a very mental learner so I like to know the whys, the whos, the whens and the hows for everything because then I can put it together in my mind logically and never forget it. 4th star-Julie let me go hands on right away. Not only did I get to groom Fidelio myself, I got to lead him to the mounting block too! Once I got on that English saddle I felt a little weird since the saddle is so much smaller and it feels like you have less support. Julie showed me how to hold the reigns (this is different too) and then we walked to the ring. Julie guided me with her instructions while letting me handle Fidelio. She instructed me from off to the side/in the middle of the ring and taught me how to hold my reigns, use my legs and lead Fidelio where I wanted him to go. Did you know you can lead a horse with your legs alone and hardly any reigns? It's amazing how smart and responsive they are! Julie mentioned that we might be able to go into a trot if it looked like I was catching on... 5th star--I got to trot! This is so different than on a Western horse/saddle. Julie explained how to post the trot then let me give it a whirl: how to hold my heels, legs, arms, hips and it's quite a balancing act the first time you try to do it correctly. But after a few tries I got it! Well, of course I need more practice to be proficient but I was able to post correctly and control my horse at the same time! And what a leg workout! When we were all done I dismounted, Fidelio gave me a little snuggle and we led him back to his stall after taking off his tack. What a great experience! Julie wasn't watching her watch or counting down the minutes until our lesson was over. She was patient and encouraged me to keep trying until I got it. I will definitely be back to take more lessons in the new year. If you love horses, I highly recommend that you check them out and see for yourself how awesome Julie is! read more

My search for a Los Angeles Dressage instructor, one who was reasonably priced, would be patient with my limited riding abilities and located close by Hollywood (so I wasn't on the freeways for an hour) was no small task. I ultimately found Dressage Master Jane Mcloud at The Paddock Riding Club. (janemcloud.com) When I arrived at The Paddock Riding Club for my first lesson I was surprised to find a hidden gem right in the middle of Los Angeles! Tucked away just off Los Feliz Blvd, I instantly felt like I wasn't in the city anymore. The grounds are beautiful, shady, clean and so professionally managed. I was nervous not knowing anyone there but I instantly felt welcomed. Everyone was so helpful. A few months later I came to own my own horse who is now happily boarded there. He has trails to explore, various arenas to choose from, lots of friends and is extremely well cared for when I'm not there. I strongly recommend this place for boarding, especially if one resides in the Hollywood areas, Los Feliz, Glendale, Burbank and even Pasadena. In addition, there are many Hunter/Jumper riding instructors to choose from along with horse trainers making this place truly a one-stop-shop. I have found the Paddock Riding Club community to be open and friendly to everyone. It is a beautiful boarding and training facility that is family friendly, secluded and secure. This place is alright in my eyes. They have trees and some green grass so it's pretty but your horse can only eat the green grass in the special section. It's way over price for a 12x12 stall with no hay - only cubes. The arenas get clogged with lessons and you have to ride around people. T/o is if you want to wake up early or get lucky, other wise your horse has to stay in a 24x24 sun pen with no shade or water unless you bring some. Arenas do terrible when it rains- but I guess that's most places in LA. Trails at griffith are not my favorite. Not much shade and the water crossing is in the LA river and is super dangerous for the horses. Good things is that it's easy to make friends here since there are SO many riders. I'd prefer to drive farther to more secluded barns that have more space for my horse to be a horse for cheaper. read more

I'm giving this place five stars even though I never actually got to take a lesson with them, because the people I dealt with were great. I called to make an appointment for a riding lesson. The guy at the main number gave me Pat's number, so I called her and she took some basic info and set up an appointment with McKenna. She warned me that she hadn't spoken to Mckenna that day, and so it was possible the scheduling might not work, but that someone would call or text me for sure. The next day I got a message from McKenna, who also sounds really nice. She actually couldn't meet at the time we planned but left an alternate time and gave me her cell number to let her know. That time didn't work for me, so I called to let her know we'd need to reschedule. She called me back and left a message, I called back and missed her, etc. HOWEVER: Every time I called, she got back to me promptly with any information I requested. She was always polite and friendly in her messages, and really tried to accommodate me. Finally when we couldn't get a time that worked for me, she said that Pat could see me at the original time, and that it wasn't a problem. By that time, my schedule had gotten totally out of control, so I could no longer meet at the original time. I decided to put off riding lessons for a while. I did want to leave a review though, because both Pat and McKenna were really nice, and McKenna definitely went above and beyond trying to find a way to make it work for me. read more

I love this barn! Not only is the management fantastic and friendly, the place is a hidden oasis in the city. I have been boarding my horse here for a few years and he is always so well taken care of. They are constantly upgrading the facilities and provide amenities above and beyond what you would expect at your stables. They have free cold bottled water and a great lounge with a coffee machine. There is a free laundry room to wash your horse blankets, wash racks with hot and cold water, free wifi, plenty of parking, lighted arenas, and lots of great places to relax and enjoy the day. There are plenty of arenas for riding and a large turnout for the horses. There is also a large grazing pasture for the horses... where else will you find that in the middle of Los Angeles? There are some fantastic trainers here that offer a variety of services. Jane Mcloud is an excellent Dressage trainer and I would say to go with Karen Perlow if you are more into the hunter/ jumper world. I came to the Riding Paddock after breaking six ribs in another riding accident. I had to get over it so I met trainer Sean Dennis. He help me fight my fears with wit and kindness. He was trained in England and teaches in a western saddle and an english saddle. I can now canter with confidence and Sean makes it fun. He is excellent at training your horse, training you to train your horse, training inexperience riders and experienced riders. My friends and family are amazed at my progress. Now I'm moving into English with this amazing trainer and it's only been a few months. Take a lesson from Sean. You'll be very glad you did. read more

The Paddock is fantastic. I ride with Kim Baxter and she is, by far, the best trainer I've had since starting my hunter/jumper training thirteen years ago. I came to her after having a bad accident with an awful trainer. So, it's wonderful to now be an accomplished rider and to be jumping and showing with confidence. My horses have been well cared for at the Paddock and I feel they are safe there when I am traveling and not able to go every day. Also, the jump and dressage arenas are lovely, with flower bushes and white fences surrounding them. And if you have a trailer you can park it in the lot and its an easy 5 min. jaunt to the park if you want to ride out. read more
