Absolutely recommend . This lovely site is nestled amongst tall trees in a quaint little bit of a town and yet near so much . Restroom and shower facility was modern and super clean . Their convenient store has everything you would need, you forgot it broke. Good selection of ice cream gifts and camp supplies . Rose Point Park is the nicest camp site that I have ever been to . In short, a great campground that I can't say enough good things about , and worthy of 10 stars

Visited this state park for the first time earlier this month and had a blast!…read more I parked at what I think is the main lot, up above the mill itself. I didn't take a tour of the mill (which the park volunteers and staff do offer throughout the day) but I did walk through it and read the information in it about the history of the mill. Definitely enjoyed exploring and learning. That said, I was really there for the trails, so I spent most of my day hiking. I took a loop trail down from the mill and back (with a detour up a short trail to some falls) and it was great! I love being outside and I love a good challenge; these trails were not paved or even at all and I had a great workout navigating them. During hydration breaks I'd find a nice rock to sit on by the water, which was wonderful. It was noisy as heck by the mill because of the families, but the further out I got the more peaceful it got. Definitely met my goal of unplugging for a day during my trek on the trails. I want to come back in the future and begin to try to walk the Slippery Gorge Trail, as it sounds like the gorge is another beautiful part of the park. But that is definitely a long term goal, because that trail is not a short one! I loved visiting this park and I'd be back for sure. To everyone else, PLEASE remember water and wear the proper footwear - while I enjoyed my walk in the park, these trails are definitely not a walk in the park!

If you live in Pittsburgh or are just visiting the area, McConnells Mill is one of the best day…read moretrips around. It's only about 40 miles north up I-79, so it's an easy drive from the city, but it feels like a completely different world once you get down into the gorge. I've been going there for years with friends and family, and it became my go-to spot to take people when they would visit from out of town. Everyone always loves checking out the historic old gristmill and the red covered bridge right next to it. It's a great, classic view, and if you go during the summer, they usually open up the mill for tours so you can see how it all used to work. The hiking there is fantastic, too, with a good mix of trails depending on what you're up for. You can take a pretty easy walk back to Hell's Hollow Falls, or you can tackle the rougher, rockier trails that run right along Slippery Rock Creek. You definitely want to wear sturdy shoes because the terrain gets steep and the rocks get slick, but the scenery with the rushing whitewater and massive boulders is totally worth it. It's just a beautiful, simple place to get outdoors for a few hours. Whether you want a challenging hike or just want to sit by the water and look at the old bridge, it never disappoints.

My brother & our families each had a seasonal site for the 2024 season (2 sites)…read more Positives: Beautiful, clean campground; Quiet, friendly neighbors; Spacious sites; Big playground; Clean pool/facilities; Safe Downsides: Primarily, the owner * During our first visit to look at the campground, my husband & I said that my brother and his family are interested in seasonal camping here and that if there are ever 2 sites together that we would love to be next to eachother. She said she would never let families to be next to eachother because she worries about drama, and that families get sick of eachother. She also said that people want to wake up drinking coffee & sitting at their campfire w/ out their family coming over to visit. This is odd, they're adults! * Before signing a contract, I expressed to her that my parents are a huge part our of lives & frequently visit us, that a big part of the decision for us to sign a contract before coming was considering the visitor fee cost. I also did not want anything to deter my parents from visiting. Even if it offered to my parents to pay each time, that would still deter them b/c they wouldn't want to be a burden to us (which they never would be, that's just how considerate they are). The owner herself offered us to pay $75 for the entire season for EACH of them to visit. (Which we found reaonable. We were willing to pay more, even somehow include them as seasonal members for the site itself but she wouldnt allow it). Beginning of June, she complained to my husband that they were visiting too often. She scoffed at us when they visited. She always had some sort of complaint about them coming. And if you look at other reviews, she seems to have an issue with visitors in general. Meanwhile, we didn't even end up using up what we had invested into paying by the end of the season for each of them- and should have just paid the daily rate. * My mom & dad are in their 70's & 80's, respectively. My mom is physically handicap. She wouldn't allow them (or any visitor) to drive their vehicle to our campsite, despite us being allowed to have up to 2 vehicles on our site. * Even though my parents were seasonal visitors based on our agreement, she still required them to check in every single time they visit. On a Sunday afternoon, my parents came to visit us. My husband drove down to the front to pick them up. He had intended on checking both of them in to the office when picking them up. Well, the office was closed and said so with a handwritten sign. So when they got up to our campsite, he intended on emailing her that they were here. As he went to re-enter the gate, she came running out of her house & said "this is your last warning" and had her finger pointed up in the air. He tried to explain himself and she said, "it doesn't matter you could have called or emailed". My parents and husband all were baffled that she screamed at them for such a crazy misunderstanding. * She complained that my parents each drove separate cars and took up too many spaces (2) in their extra car parking that SHE asked them to park into (again because she wouldn't allow them to park at one of our two seasonal campsites). * Day 1 of us being there, after already signing the contract, paying, and the fact that our camper was already there, she complained to us that we got there after 5 to get gate card. It was a constant trend from that point forward, we always felt like an inconvenience to her. * She alleged that my dad had a beer at the campground with the kids. Meanwhile my dad doesn't even drink, so that can't be true. Likely a pop can * My brother went to his campsite to grab his liquor for us to take a shot together at our site to try to take it off of our minds. Apparently she saw it on either one of her cameras or neighbors complained. She gave us a "final warning" for that. * When we were at the pool one day, the divider broke off of the side of the pool. My dad tried fixing it but was not able to. He went to the office to offer to fix it himself and said he had tools in his car. My dad said they were rude to him and cut him off when they were talking. * You will be constantly watched on camera when at the pool. You will feel like you are on a season of Big Brother. * She didn't communicate to seasonal campers that the power was out. * We avoided camping once the end of the summer began. We felt like we wasted an entire year of camping because of her. I think unless you are a senior or older couple/older family with absolutely no visitors, you do not want to come here ever. It is a senior living campground with some younger families, but with not a lot of "life" to it. I spoke with some other seasonal campers who said they were leaving that season because they didn't like being treated like a child. Take the time to read other reviews over the yrs & you will see that there is a trend. When you go go visit the campground, you will see open sites, which should make you scratch you

My earliest memories from the 1970s are filled with the smell of charcoal smoke at the picnic groves and the freezing shock of jumping into the lake on hot summer afternoons. As a kid, that beach felt massive, and a simple day trip with packed lunches (the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches melted to goodness from the sun) and blankets spread out on the grass was the best part of summer with my sisters and mom. As I grew into adulthood, the way I used the park changed, but I never stopped going. I didn't always go swimming but instead would explore the miles of hiking trails. The best part, though, was getting to experience it all over again through my daughter's eyes. Taking her there when she was little and watching her hit the water and run around the playground were special times indeed. Raccoon Creek isn't just a park to me; it's a constant in my life. Over five decades later, facilities might get updated here and there, but the familiar feeling of the place hasn't changed a bit. It's serene, nostalgic, and always feels like coming home.

The bathrooms are close by the camp sites and clean! Plus they have hot water for showering. The water pump for drinking water is fresh and better than my tap at home. The lake is so nice and the ice cream stand is the best (bring cash). Definitely recommend booking the camp sites closest to the trail that takes you to the beach. It's about a 15 minute hike, but so much nicer than driving 15 minutes to the beach.

The lunch was provided by their onsite food truck guys in the parking lot, "Your Momma's Kitchen" which had very good food. Burgers/Fries/Chicken sandwiches were the norm. Moving on to outside, Scott got us fitted for helmets and goggles and had us pick our machine, we chose the 2-seater model and got settled. There were 5 rentals in our tour that day, (2) 2-seaters and (3) 4-seaters, plus Scott in the lead. After getting everyone outfitted, Scott got us all together and gave a quick rundown of what we were going to do, what to expect, as well as a quick safety brief. He asked everyone on the tour what their experience level was and talked with us all about the machines. The tour was off and going up, down, and through the hills was completely awesome. It had rained the night before so the trails were just right for slipping, sliding, and having great fun. Luckily, we wore rain gear for the trip, and I will tell you this: I will take mud on the clothes over eating dust all day. The rain was a welcome addition to the trails for us. Over the course of the trip, Scott would stop the tour, provide water or bathroom breaks, and give us history about the place. It was just a few minutes each time, but it was a welcome break. The Mine Tour came after lunch. We all lined up and drove through after Scott. It is surprisingly cool in there, 55 degrees no matter the temp outside he said. We stopped halfway through the tour inside the mine, gathered all the units together and we shut off all the lights.... complete and utter darkness all around. He kept talking through it, giving us some history on the mine and how far in we were. Luckily the lights went on before anyone really freaked out and we got on our way. Getting back to base, we posed for pics and thanked everyone. You leave your dirty helmets on a bench and walk away from your mud-covered machine; they clean it all for you. We washed our boots and took off our rain gear, we were good to go for the car ride back. All in all, we would totally do this again. We were in from California and this was a great way to spend half a day in the hills; tearing ass through the mud, gassing it up the hills and ripping through water puddles. The trails are pretty well maintained; some have ruts but most do not. Heck, what do you expect with 100 people a day riding and tearing it up? Good water spots to go through, some good long straightaways to get up some speed, and hairpin turns to slow you down. We didn't hit any jumps that day; that's probably a different insurance form to fill out. LOL Things to bring: - Riding attire/gloves or a change of clothes. You will get muddy. - Phone for pics and music. The side by sides have Bluetooth, so if you want to listen to music as you tear through the hills, it's available. The music is nice for a bit, but hearing that engine rev up as you run up a hill is music to my ears. - A rag or cloth to clean your goggles; they get pretty muddy - GoPro with mount if you want to record your adventure. All in all, it's a must for me if I ever return to Pennsylvania. They were professional, in good communication before and after the tour, and to me, well worth the money. Scott (our guide) really made the trip what it was for us. His attitude was awesome, and he obviously loves his job. Thank you Scott for a great day!
