I've eaten at this Black Hog location (and their ones in downtown Frederick and Urbana) many times. All produce reasonable 'que - not award winning, but consistent and decent quality. Today's choice was a brisket sandwich. The meat was nicely cooked, and the bark looked nice, but it was underseasoned. As a result, it had no punch on the first bite or any that followed. I generally don't like to put sauce on brisket. The bark and the meat should speak for themselves, but in this case, I decided to try the three sauces that came with it: vinegar (Really? For brisket?), a sweet Memphis style, and a thicker Kansas City style. The latter two were too sweet for brisket, and the former was, well, an abomination. IMHO. The sandwich came with one side. I got potato salad, which also needed some pickle pieces, onions, paprika, cayenne - anything that added punch. Not the worst I've had in town, but not the best. (Yeah, yeah, I know it's subjective, but I'll stack my potato salad against anyone's. My Aunt Helen taught me well). Oh, I'll be back, don't you worry. Black Hog serves a consistent, decent product that is the best available in Frederick It's just not close to what I can eat from any of the countless hole-in-the-wall joints pretty much anywhere in Texas. But it's a much shorter drive...

Really delicious BBQ in Frederick MD! We sat at the (small) bar and the 2 bartenders were awesome,…read moresuper friendly, and attentive. For a small restaurant they had a full bar with a decent bourbon and whiskey selection. Their menu is flexible, allowing options for various combos - so you can try whatever you want. I ordered a brisket sandwich with a side of burnt ends. Burnt ends are my favorite and I was SLIGHTLY disappointed because they weren't "crispy" like I like, but the flavor was great. The price was in line with other BBQ joints, so no surprises there. We'll definitely be back.

According to the website "The market is comprised of fresh produce, fresh meats, fresh milk,…read moreherbals, soaps, fresh flowers, baked goods and a sundry of items combining efforts with local small farmers to offer the community of Mt. Airy and surrounding towns, fresh, local food & hand made products"- Dropped by here this afternoon, a big plus is Sunday hours in early March. Beautiful farmland- idyllic setting in farm outbuildings. We could see some lambs in an adjacent barn and it appeared there were numerous farm animals about, my thought ran to upcoming spring and summer and how much the children would enjoy this place. The store is small and a bit cramped, but we were hit with wonderful aromas on entering- homemade herbal soaps, freshly baked cookies, pies, cobblers and pasta. A refrigerator held a variety of local cheeses, fresh eggs, farm fresh milk and cream, and a freezer held the good stuff- bacon, farm-raised beef, hot dogs, sausages, and jerky. Oh how I love jerky. Children in the market were negotiating for different flavors of frozen custard that looked great. The lovely lady at the counter explained that the owner sends farm-raised meats to the butcher, and that a family pack type order could be placed. The jerky must have been processed by a place in PA per the label- it was fabulous. Thin and dry and perfectly seasoned, I at least got it home and defrosted before I devoured it. I also picked up some summmer sausage- have not tried it yet, but the smell is tantalizing and I'm looking forward to slicing some with some of the horseradish cheddar, some crackers and something to drizzle the honey over- yes, local honey. Wow. I may just eat it out of the jar, it is that good. Not much local produce- there is none yet, but I am looking forward to stopping back by later in the season, with the children- and the camera!.

This place is going to become a family favorite for years to come!…read more I took the kids last weekend to see the lamb that were only a week old! There were chickens running around too! It was our first time at England Acres and it is absolutely beautiful farmland! We met Judy and Hannah. Hannah took us over to the barn and picked up one of the lamb and let my daughter hold him. My daughter was so excited! We headed back inside and picked up eggs, bacon, lamb, steaks, and chicken. Nothing beats grass farm fresh food that comes from a place that is right down the street and where the animals have been very well taken care of. Don't get me wrong, it's pricey, but it's worth every penny to support a local farm, for the flavor of the food, and for your health!
