My wife and I went to rosedale nursery to get 6 large bushes and 3 yards of top soil. I asked the woman behind the counter if they did the work (delivering and planting ). She barely looked up saying well we don't do small jobs under $500. dollars and we would have to go next door because we were in the wrong place. We left and returned the next day with our hired landscaper to purchase what we needed. We spent over an hour picking out the plants without anyone giving us a second glance. When we were finished making our choices we returned to the same woman we encountered the day before at the register. She immediately rudely informed us that they were not opened until 9:00 and that apparently we missed the 2 signs that were posted at the entrance. We were all very appalled with the lack of professionalism and customer respect. All we could do was abandon our choices and leave the establishment. Fortunately our landscaper took us to another nursery where we were able to purchase what we needed. Rosedale showed zero concern that we walked away disgusted and appalled. Needless to say we will never go there again and recommend no one else does. read more

Despite the variety of plants they have at Rosedale, I've made my last trip here. As other reviewers have said, the senior staff members -- and there is one in particular -- seem to resent the customers, and will treat you in a way that is embarrassing and rude. I used to grit my teeth and bear it, because occasionally you'll find a friendly staff member among the women working at the front of the house. But last week was the final straw, and although I spent over an hour shopping there, I put everything back after the rude treatment at the counter. The woman in line ahead of me also told me what she thought of the staff that day. The fact is, nobody in this day and age should subject themselves to ill treatment by a store's staff; there are many sweet nurseries in Westchester county that are worth going to and have just as good selections with just as good prices. I decided to do a tour of Westchester nurseries and found Michael's Garden Gate Nursery (146 N Bedford Rd, Mount Kisco) was pretty and the staff helpful; Perennial Gardens (414 Old Post Rd, Bedford) very knowlegeable and, again, polite, and Copia Home and Garden (475 Smith Ridge Rd, Vista) well worth a visit for rare plants. It's a shame to know that someone put a lot of hard work into Rosedale Nursery, to have it subside to this level of poor customer service. But, there are others building nurseries that are a pleasure to visit, from the range of plant material and gifts, to the basic decency of the staff. I think they deserve the business that Rosedale has lost. read more

I have never had anything but a pleasant experience shopping at Rosedale nursery. It's a beautiful place with a great selection. I read the reviews before going there the first time and keep waiting for a "surly" staff member, but I've yet to come across them. Prices on Bonnie plants are about a dollar less than Home Depot and everything I've planted from there is doing well so far. They're busy on the weekends, but mid week shopping is pretty tranquil. read more

The Good: Beautiful plants, I spent over $500 on mother's day and spent the day planting beautiful plants from Rosedale The Bad: A $36 annual grass (one of two that I bought) was dead 2 weeks later, Rosedale was completely unhelpful and even rude. They blamed it on me and my planting methods however the other grass is growing just fine.... , the worker with the cowboy hat and funky sunglasses need an attitude adjustment. I'm new to area and have a new garden that needed lots of attention, cages, tools, plants Etc... This should be my go-to place but the customer service has sent me looking elsewhere... The 3 or 4 times I've been there, on weekdays when there are fewer customers, I have found the staff surly and thoroughly miserable. Even the guy who was stationed at what seemed like a "help" station for questions (separate from the cashier) didn't seem to appreciate being bothered with questions or requests for recommendations. I like Rosedale a lot and buy all my plantings there. The guys who work outside are generally very nice and helpful. They'll help you find what you're looking for but don't typically have much knowledge about the plants (beyond sun/shade, native/not native). I'm not sure how much knowledge the inside shop workers have because I've found them to be generally not friendly and pretty stressed out, especially when it's busy. It would be great if they had a horticulturist on staff that you could make an appointment with. (They could even require a purchase of a $50 gift card to confirm an appointment with a horticulturist - that would take care of people looking for free gardening advice, no shows and those not intending to purchase anything.) Maybe they already have a real horticulturist available to customers? If so, I've never come across him/her and I go there a lot. I always end up trying to get information on my iPhone, but that can be frustrating and is no substitute for in-person advice from a professional. read more

Great huge nursery off the Saw Mill that has everything from annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, herbs. We usually go here to get plants for the yard. The lot is huge and they have wagons that you wheel around to put your plants. They are always very friendly and nice there as well, would highly recommend. read more

The good: Rosedale has a beautiful, almost intimidating, selection of plants. The bad: Prices are very high and they do not stand behind what they sell. We have spent a good deal of money there, and a couple of expensive plants died almost immediately. Apparently, it was "our fault," though others of the same kind, planted in the same area in the same way at the same time did fine. Called before I went because I was looking to buy asparagus ferns. Held on the phone for 5 minutes, I was told they had them in 4" pots and hanging baskets.When I got there 45 minutes later , they said they didn't have them only in $12.95 hanging baskets.The staff had a attitude when I called the phone number I called earlier from the checkout counter to find out who said they had them in 4" pots. Left all the other stuff I hadn't planned to buy because of the attitude of the employees. Won't be shopping there again. read more

Rosedale Nurseries are absolutely amazing. I had them landscape my front yard and loved them so much that am working with them to do the back yard now. I have worked with John Sullivan, their landscape architect, for over a year and half and find him amazing with his insight, his eye for detail and his passion for what he does. He is ethical, hard working and have seen him drive by my house several times after the work was done to ensure that things are growing the right way etc. Everyone subcontractor he has recommended to me has been top notch. John and Rosedale Nurseries has has been a complete pleasure to work with. Highly recommend them for anyone looking to landscape. Even the plants they provided were of excellent quality a year later. Their retail store is well laid out, the staff have been very helpful whenever I have dropped by to pick up supplies. The plants are amazing. These guys are the real deal. I couldn't be happier to have found them. We are enjoying our yard so much and have gotten compliments from everyone who passes by. They made us famous in my neighborhood. Who knew. read more

Just visited for the first time after reading all the reviews. I arrived at 9:00 AM on the dot and it was so pleasant to walk through the beautiful grounds. The selection is completely dazzling. I have been a customer of Rosedale Nurseries for more than 15 years. The large inventory, knowkedgeable staff (most are experienced horticulturists) and friendly service have ensured my loyalty and respect for this place. In high season, it does get very busy so, my suggestion to those who might need more personal advice and assistance is that they visit as soon as the place opens. Or, ask when might be convenient and go at that time. We are very fortunate to have this resource in our area. Support them or all we will have to meet our gardening needs will be Big Box. read more

TERRIBLE customer service. I have an account with Rosedale Nurseries through my job and I cannot believe I was treated with such disrespect. I went in to order a few hundred dollars worth of plants for a planting project I'm doing with volunteers. I walked in with a smile on my face because I have enjoyed going here in the past. I asked if I could place an order for plants and have them available in a week or so. I was told "we don't do your shopping for you". I was so taken back by this response that I didn't even know what to say. I said okay and started to walk towards the door when the man behind the counter realized he had been rude and then asked me what plants I needed and he could tell me if they had them. I went through my list to which he responded "I don't know if we have that one" or "They might be back there" to every single plant on my list. They will never get my personal business again nor my company business. Rude and disrespectful for absolutely no reason. This was my second time visiting Rosedale Nurseries to purchase plants for my Community Garden at my place of employment.The first time I went I had a pleasant experience, happy with the selection. I use a tax exempt slip to make my purchases as we are a not-for-profit. The first time a young woman employee helped me and she had no problem approving me. I must say my experience there today was good until I had to check out. As I browsed my selection a young man employee asked if I wanted to be assisted and told me that he would be there if I had any questions. Excellent. My experience changed when I went to check out with an old male employee. As always I had my tax exempt form ready for purchase before I am called onto the line. I gave the employee my form and informed him that I had previously purchased tax exempt for my not-for-profit. This man took 15 minutes trying to look up my account. He could not find my find my account in the system. Instead of apologizing and starting a new account he proceeded to place the blame on me asking me "Are you paying with a credit card?" Telling him yes he then proceeded to lecture me "I hope it is a company card or else you can't purchase using tax exempt." I told him that my company reimburses me. He told me that what I was doing is illegal and accused me of wanting to purchase the plants for myself. I will not be going back. read more

Called the place to get some information about plants available .... was told I would get a call back ... When I called 6 hours later I was told that the messages had been picked up...literally. I never got a call back .... so I made the effort and went there approx 5pm. We were greated by a woman mouthing off loudly turning her back to us, "Every day the same, 5 o'çlock and here they come when they know we close at 5.30".... charming. The selection of plants is good .... the prices right up there with any place in Manhattan. When I called the guys at Hicks Nurseries they got back to me within the hour, they were very helpful, and when they did not have what i was looking for they had a list with 5 suggestions for similar items ..... guess where I will be buying my plants ..... read more

I have been shopping at Rosedale for years, and I go there for the plants only, certainly not the service. In recent years the service has really gone downhill. The cashiers act like they are annoyed to help you when you walk up to the register as if you are botherng them. Never a hello, no conversation, nothing. They are miserable people! I try to get most of my plants elsewhere now, but it's hard to find everything I'm looking for so I end up here. But after today's visit, I will think twice. The place has an awesome selection of plants, trees etc, but the service is awful. Cashier rude to customers, and even rolled her eyes and yelled at a very sweet customer with a question. I got help from other customers as there was no staff available or willing to help. I guess with their inventory they figure they can afford to be nasty. Not sure what their problem is, maybe harsh work demands or low pay? Also, some of their gardening decor and window boxes are outrageously priced. $150 for a small plastic window box! Went to buy a fruit tree and some supplies. Staff were very helpful and gave good advice. It is a beautiful place too. A bit pricey but I think the advice and good service I got justified the cost. Also, who needs chain stores...I'm for the little guy anyday. read more

Rosedale has an absolutely STUNNING selection of plants, shrubs, and trees. I have visited tons of nurseries over the years with my mom, and this place beats them all by a mile for selection. The overall plant quality is excellent as well. Yes, it can sometimes be hard to find someone to help you - the place is huge, the workers are busy, and there are lots of customers with questions - so this is not a place to expect someone to walk right up and ask if you need help. BUT, if you have some patience to hunt someone down, they are very knowledgeable about what they have. I found a real gem in Sarah, last Saturday. She ONLY works Saturdays but she is a horticulturist and she was incredibly friendly and helpful. The only other reason I can't give Rosedale 5 stars, is that they're a tad bit pricey, but I felt like their plants were better quality than a number of other nurseries I visited nearby. read more
