The restaurant itself is on a very quiet street that we almost missed it when we walked by. Interior decoration is pretty hipster-ish, with a large bar in the middle which looks kind of cool. It was only ~30% full which we felt strange as it's on a Saturday night, we were a bit skeptical at first but as soon as the food arrived it blew away our worries! * * * FOOD * * * We got the Royal Dinner Set for four, its basically a combination of all kinds of dishes.... and most of them were amazing. The abalone with beef stew was the best one in my opinion.... not sure why these two would go together but who cares, the abalone was fresh and seasoning was amazing, the beef was so tender too. The bean curds and roasted pork were also surprisingly good. The rest of the standard Korean side dishes were good too. I'm a big fan of tofu soup and what they had got my approval. The sashimi was kind of meh though, not that it was not fresh but it just didnt quite match the rest of the dishes IMO. Other reviews have said this place is expensive but we had a set menu from the choice of 4 for only $49 and got about 8 small courses that added up to one great value meal. It was better than we imagined. The starter of tempered porridge was not to my taste or texture although a few others at the table liked it. The tofu dish was just ok but pretty on the plate. The fritters that next came were a great dish with 4 different fritters in a very light batter. Then a simple Sashimi dish. The Bossam Slow-cooked pork belly with a little samosa type parcel was amazing! Then lastly came the combo of a cold type bibimbap with a very spicy soup on the side that had me spluttering and ingredients of thinly sliced beef rib, mushroom and brocolli to cook at your table using a heated stone. There were a variety of sauces to spice up your dish also. Dessert I wish I didn't bother with, the soggy milky bread dessert that had a strange almond taste or the cheesecake that came out of a muffin case which were floury and odd were both horrible. There were unfinished plates all around the table but unfortunately were part of the set menu. Hansik is a lot prettier than standard joints and the set menu makes it way better than others in my opinion. I thought the service was great and the wine selection adequate. Or maybe because of the time of day? Anyway the service was both friendly and speedy. Whenever we walked in and sat down the waiter was there with menu and water. The menu choices are not big but was more than enough for our tastes. We ended up ordering the BBQ pork ,Steamed Pork and Vegetable Dumpling, the BiBimBab (which is mix of boiled rice with minced meat, egg, variety of freshly cooked vegetables and some side dishes) and lastly Soy Fried Chicken. The BiBimBab was absolutely delicious , but the real dish that " stole the show " ( so to speak ) was the Soy Fried Chicken. The taste was out of this world so much so i have no words to describe it.
