We found the Falls of Foyers 100% on accident, but I'm so glad we did!…read more It's a bit of the beaten path-- a ways off a side road off the B road on the east side of Loch Ness. You get to see some Highland Cattle (aka fluffy cows) on the drive in. There was plenty of parking at at the top. The hike to the top viewing point is short and not too steep, but I'd still make sure to have good shoes, and be careful if you have limited mobility at all. The stairs and trails are very well-maintained, but still a bit uneven, and there isn't always a railing. The hike to the lower viewing point was steeper, but well worth the effort. The trails past this viewing point are quite pretty as well, and lead to great views of a river leading into the Loch. We ended up turning around after a bit because we were short on time, but there's a longer loop you can do that is likely gorgeous. Keep an eye out for red squirrels, as well as plaques with poetry and explanation about the falls. Don't rush when you're driving through the Highlands; definitely take the time to follow signs pointing vaguely to a waterfall so you get to see incredible views like these.

Nice little falls, although rather more modest than some of the descriptions suggest. Nonetheless,…read morewell worth seeing after the pleasant drive to their location. The walk to half way is modest and very manageable for most. But, try and avoid the holiday makers we ran into. They were rude and blocked the narrow and slippery path. Phooey to them.

I'm thankful the temperatures were down for that alone. We started walking, seeing Red Pandas, Birds, A few small wolves, snow leopards and polar bears, Deer of some kind and the wild cats who weren't at all cooperative in being viewed, but it was day time and they are cats, so it's understood. I did marvel at their enclosure, which was done in such a way that the cats could have their free reign to go between the 4 or 5 different enclosures without being impeeded by the humans below. Once we'd walked what we wanted to walk, We went back and got in our car for the ride around part on the open safari type land. We saw deer with great horns still flocked in velvet, buffalo and Oryx, I believe, Some wild horse who were very playful. All in all it was a fabulous trip, I would come back again and again.

I like cryptids and one of the most famous ones is the Loch Ness Monster. You won't be able to see…read morethe Monster but you are guaranteed to see a long 23 mile lake, black water, and a cute town with Loch Ness Monster souvenirs and theming. We were here 10 years ago and enjoyed it enough to come back. If you go on a cruise the windows of the cruise ship have a tiny Loch Ness Monster sticker so every picture you take will have the cryptid! Unfortunately, they were sold out this time and we were not able to get onto the ships. Caledonian Canal: Connects this Loch with others. We got really lucky this trip and were able to see the Canal in action, with waters lowering and doorways opening for 2 boats going to Loch Ness. This is located in the town area of Loch Ness. Loch Ness: From the canals walk straight down on the left side. There are no public bathroom at the end but there is a sign you can take pictures at that says "Loch Ness". If you are not on a boat ride the walk is short and the area at the end is small but its worth it to take a picture at the sign and get a close up view of the lake. The spring is gorgeous with vibrant yellow Gorse flowers blooming, it brightens up the gloom a bit and gives the landscape some special of color.

At its longest point, its waters stretch 36km (about 23 miles), and it has a maximum width of 2.7km (about 1.7 miles wide). We had 2 hours in our hands to explore Fort August. first we explored the Lock (a series of bridges and a loch that let you pass the canal to lochness), then we roamed around the city, and finally we spent some quiet time here. no public, no one, it was a very serene feeling to sit here and stare at this big lake and question your life's mistake ... hahaha But jokes apart, the views of the legendary Loch Ness are stunning and serene. It's a perfect spot for taking photos and enjoying the natural beauty. The atmosphere is peaceful And yes, we did not see Nessie (that famous Loch Ness monster), of course i did not even expect it ;)

I would definitely recommend it if your only footwear is a pair of sneakers, as it can get quite muddy on the mountain. Also, would recommend wearing thick socks if you need to rent the Wellies as they are not insulated at all. After you pay, (about £32 for a family package) follow your guide in your car to a location about a mile or so from the center, where you pull over for a one mile easy hike to a fenced off area where there are about 60 or so reindeer. Once inside the gated area you have full access to the reindeer and are able to photo, pet and even feed these majestic creatures. They are surprisingly gentle and obviously used to being around humans. The guides are very nice and provide information about the reindeer, the center and the surrounding areas. Dress appropriately for all types of weather conditions for the season. Even if you are only about a mile or so from your vehicle, the weather can quickly change. This was our second visit to the center and regardless whether it was in a small or a large group of fellow hikers, we felt we had great access to the animals.

They switched out road tires for trek tires based on the trip I was taking, lights, high vis, and helmet with no extra charge, I hired high quality panniers that fit all my gear, and the bicycle was in perfect condition. The team is friendly, took time to understand my needs and genuinely seemed to thoroughly love and intimately know the details of cycling in the highlands. Even if you have a nice touring bike, the faff of bike train reservations makes renting in Inverness here a really good option. My daily hybrid commuter cycle was not going to cut it for my trip so I rented but I watched friends from London struggle on every leg of their train journey to get their touring bikes to their destinations, while I dropped this rental off and was back on my merry way. Hearing that they do a bicycle taxi service when I returned the bike opened up new route possibilities outside of the train routes as well. Can't recommend highly enough.

We were visitors from the US who planned our whole holiday around it, and will never forget it. Our guide was top notch, highly skilled with horse care and communication, and focused on both horse happiness and guest safety. I am a veterinarian and horse owner, and my observation is these horses are extremely well cared for and love their jobs. Each morning, they are ready to get on the road. Overnight accommodations were at lovely small inns. Guests help care for their horse and can expect up to 8 hours in the saddle each day. And every hour was something new and amazing to see. Recommended for confident riders who can handle rough terrain and have excellent balance in the saddle. I am 50+ and rode with my 18 year old daughter and it was an amazing ride for both of us. The owners work their tails off to make this happen, and I am so appreciative of them.
