It was the worse store I ever been too if I had read the reviews I wouldn't even consider going in there . But I didn't so I walk in there 10 people in line to pay just 1 cashier open the other lady was doing some perfumes w not rush in the world . I was trying to to buy some sunglasses and I saw those ray bans and Balenciaga I wait and wait she not even said can help you or something. I ask if I can see them she' just went to the case w/ out a word she handle the sunglasses to me like I was annoying and left . I want to try the others wants but she never comeback so I left . I'm not going to spend my money in a places when they don't tread people right . I don't care if you busy I don't care if you haven a bad day not my issue I don't care if you don't want to be there look for another job and get the fuck out . In comparison to the other two Ross stores in our area, this one has less junk, is far cleaner, & has better items. Of course, like many have noted, it not as fancy as Marshall's nor TJMaxx, but has much lower prices. I think with success, these other stores have jacked up there prices so much that they are comparable or even more than other places. The other day at TJM, I saw Dr. Bronner's Shampoo, at even a higher price than when on sale at Lassen's, which is ridiculous. As in all these places, it is shear luck if you find a huge bargain. For some reason mostly Cotton Socks are really hard to find now, but they had multiple 10 packs for only $5.99 here at this Ross's. It was Gidden brand I think, as opposed to the crappy socks from Nike to Ralph Lauren, which were all mostly polyester. While they have a much smaller cutting board selection than at Marshall's, the ones that they had were medium sized and less than $10. Due to my rather negative experiences at the Ross's in both SLO and in Pismo, I took a gamble here. I scored some nice bargains, but the line was quite long. The lady cashier (she had black curly hair and a nose piercing on the side of her nose, she spoke Spanish and English), she yelled out that she was open, I was preparing my stuff and not even 5 seconds have passed, she yelled at me really loud as if she was annoyed. She asked me if I wanted to buy a bag, I was already buying a bag, so why even ask. Such a dumb question to be honest, this young lady needs to be reevaluated. read more

Sadly, I could only give a 1 star here. The place is a mess, items all over the floor. I have seen Goodwills 10 times better than this. There are at least 20 people in line and there is only 1 cashier open. I walked through and they must be shortstaffed, like everywhere else. Management obviously vacant at this store. If you want an experience in a disorganized, chaotic, unwelcoming absolute shit of a show, this is your go-to storefront. The sheer level of lack-of-care you will find in this store is unmatched, even for Santa Maria. From the pure disinterest in the up-keep of the trash heaps of items you get to try to siphon through, to the flat out rude and unaccomdating staff members you will unfortunately come across that will ruin your day is mind blowing. I try sooooo hard to avoid this place, but sometimes I find myself in the unfortunate conundrum of being willing to try my luck here in pure desperation for what I'm hoping to acquire. And EVERY TIME (which in itself is truly not often because of my disdain for this representation of Ross), I am utterly disappointed. My main gripe is with the staffing. I don't think I've ever met a genuinely friendly person here that works behind the counter. In 2024, with all the training in the world, you really find the bottom of the barrel in this place. It's like they hire the leftovers that don't have a clue about how to be in the workforce. The only reason I even dragged myself here is because TJ Maxx doesn't open until 11am and I wasn't going to be in town long enough. And again, in true Santa Maria Ross on Betteravia fashion, walking in the door they made me regret my decision to waste my gas driving over here. Don't bother stopping in, especially if you have a coffee or something of the like in your hand because you will be turned away like you're a 5 year old and might spill it on their precious disheveled floor or something. Cheese n rice you guys, let adults be adults and quit turning business away because you're too lazy (or maybe incompetent?) to keep your store clean and organized, at best. It's pathetic and makes a person angry enough to come to Yelp and tear you a new one. The only reason I even gave it one star is because I had to in order to write this review. I'm off to try my luck at Home Goods. At least they let me shop and sip my silly little drink in complete peace. Long story short, do yourself a favor and go to Ross literally ANYWHERE ELSE. When I need something quick & last minute Ross usually has what u need as a quick change, and for it's great prices! I don't have a Ross where I live so the drive from Solvang to Santa Maria & is worth the drive! Staff is usually always nice & welcoming. Tho this store won't always have what your looking for which is understandable, but it's always nice to browse & find items that you didn't know you needed I recommend this Ross! It's worth the trip, if you're gonna save $$ on a new wardrobe! read more

Not much in terms of shopping out here so we stopped in since my son likes some of the brands they sell here. Store is a huge mess, it really looks like they just threw everything in the store. Nothing is sorted, not fun to shop at. The prices are great, but I would pass on coming back to this location. read more

If i could give no stars I would. I came to the store at 10:17 and the carts were blocking the entrance. As an employee was walking out I asked what time they closed and she stated 10:45, then proceeded to check her phone and realized it was barely 10:17 and changed the time and said they closed at 10. I checked the signs and they all said they closed at 11. I am very upset and disappointed in all the employees behavior. I will be going back to speak to the manager and write a letter to corporate. read more

Recently, visited this store. I will be honest it has changed over the years. Looks messy, in regards to the assortment of clothing. Looks like a glorified thrift store. As a matter of fact Goodwill is more organized. Shoes are the best buy there, I will give them credit on that. Understaff with register clerks, making you waiting 30 mins or more. Clean up your messy store and hire more employees! Lines are always so long and unorganized.

While walking down the aisles of this store, be careful where you step and pay attention or you're gonna be stepping on merchandise and/or an unattended child. Also be sure to practice your best maneuvering around people and objects while in this store or you're gonna bump into a person or an object. And...be prepared to wait a while if you dare decide to step in line and purchase something. I wanted to purchase a couple of things but put them back after I saw the ginormous line I was going to have to wait in to buy a couple of measly little items I knew I could live without. I had to get a few things for my daughter and had to rush to the restroom. When I asked the girl at the fitting room to hold my items so I can use the restroom she said "Yeah." I went into the restroom and it was already so filthy. The first stall was occupied and the second one was out of order. When I went into the third stall (handicapped stall), it had no lock, no toilet paper, no seat linings and trash everywhere. The baby changing table was full of toilet paper and trash. I'm glad I didn't have my daughter with me. I went back to the fitting room attendant and informed her the restroom is very dirty and has no toilet paper or lining. She called for someone to come and unlock the utility closet. It took literally 5 minutes for a loss prevention guy to come and he didn't have the key. Five minutes after he came a girl came with a rack of go backs. The girl and fitting room attendant started talking. Then the attendant told the girl "She needs to use the restroom." Pointing at me. The girl didn't acknowledge me and said "oh, I forgot." She proceeded to enter the restroom. Mind you, I'm 7.5 months pregnant and there were little girls needing to use the restroom. I waited three more minutes. I was so irritated because by this time 20 minutes passed. I told the attendant I'm not using the restroom and won't be taking the items I was getting ready to purchase. It should never take this long to clean and restock the restroom. I'm reaching out to the area director and corporate. I have gone to Ross in the ghetto in other cities and they are cleaner and restrooms are stocked. This is ridiculous! This is why I never come to this Ross. If you have poor management it reflects on the store. Yelp should have a half star. read more

The store is a mess and there are huge numbers of unattended screaming children running around. I was only 1 of maybe 4 caucasian people in the store. I asked why they did not have a jewelry counter. The lady who was working the register said they could not due to the high volume of theft. She said it was very hard on the workers there as they spend a great deal of time dealing with policing the store and dealing with mobs of kids and toddlers whose parents never watch them. I'm making the drive to San Luis or AG ROSS. read more

The store was pathetic as if there wasn't any supervisor to train their people. Wanted to see earrings in glass case but only 1 cashier on duty with a long line of people. Asked the security/greeter if someone could help us. He was very pleasant & got Sylvia H. to assist. OMG, she was horribly rude as if we bothered her. I think the Ross in Santa Maria has an excellent selection of clothing shoes and all kinds of different stuff. The prices are great, and I've never had a problem with the staff. Every time I've gone in there they have been very friendly, courteous and very helpful when asked questions. Just one issue that I could see from shopping there... Is that I would say they need to have more cashiers brought up front when there is a longer than usual line... that way the line wait isn't so long. (Which is an issue I find frustrating not only at Ross but in any store) Overall my experiences with the staff and the store have been excellent... I think they are one of the more cool stores. I'm not too fond of the one at San Luis Obispo... It doesn't seem to have a big selection of clothes. It just seems to have a lot of Riffity Raffety junkety junk stuff.. which really surprises me for San Luis Obispo as they are a college town so their sales could be off the charts I'm sure if they carried better quality stuff at that store. It could be a fantastic store as it's a 2 level too. Anyhow I don't live up that way so it doesn't really bother me that much. It just kind of shocks me, because that Ross store doesn't seem to fit with that town.. it's very odd to go in there when you've been at the Santa Maria or the AG Store... It's like after going to the Santa Maria or AG Store you walk into the San Luis store it's like going to a Goodwill or a thrift store... But as I said previously in my review I really enjoy the Santa Maria store they have a good selection of products and also the AG store too. I especially like the home decor sections , the bedding section, and the kitchenware type section stuff. You can usually look online or go to other stores... The very high end stores that are super pricey and then go to Ross and find very similar items that are great quality and wonderful prices to boot!! I highly recommend this Ross!! The comments made about the staff... Everybody can have a bad day, I have noticed sometimes if I project on to other people my attitude it causes them to react towards me.. I typically love Ross stores but this one is one to not like. I rather drive to the one in Pismo! I understand that the customers are dirty and throw everything on the floor. But workers need to pick up. I do hate this store because the people that come in this store and very dirty and have no manners but it's also up to the workers to have a clean store and this store is always a mess. You can't even walk! Might as well not even have carts since you won't be able to walk around with one. Oh and let's not forget the toys area! It's the worst! And cashiers less gossip more smiles.
