That misleading listing is what caused me to book in the first place. When I discovered the error, I called to cancel. I asked three times whether a refund would be approved. Three times I was told yes, the manager would take care of it the next day. Don't worry, it's fine. So I trusted them. The next morning: denied. No refund. No explanation. No accountability. Because I trusted their word, I lost the window to just bite the bullet and make the hour drive to and from family. I had to book a second hotel out of pocket, stretching my budget in a way that was genuinely costly. All because a staff member couldn't simply say "I don't know" instead of giving me false assurances to get off the phone. This isn't a miscommunication. It's a lack of integrity. Do not rely on anything you're told verbally here and think twice before booking at all.

I went for the $20 tasting and spent a lovely hour at the tasting bar, learning about the wines, the Stellers' history in Orcutt (as well as his great-great-great-great uncle who named the Steller Jay!). There are nice seating options, a few pretty couches and room for large or small parties (21+ only - them's the rules, peeps). If you like to sip and shop, be sure to visit Mrs Steller's boutique (Steller Home) a block away as well as the Deja Vu antique mall- about a 10 minute walk.

They serve many good wines, both very local and from other California regions. Some of the interesting local ones include a few varietals from the local Allan Hancock community college's viniculture program. The Allan Hancock ($9/glass) 2023 Pinot Noir was pretty impressive! Fruity and young. I also very much enjoyed the Kleemeier (also Santa Barbara County) 2024 Pinot Noir, which belied its young age in the best way ($12/ glass). This was our first visit to this rustic tasting room, and we had a nice experience. It was a Friday, right after opening, and we had the whole place to ourselves. The service was friendly, and my wife and I shared a traditional and custom flight. We thought that the wines were decent, some better suited to our palates than others, but well-made, nonetheless. We were fortunate to meet and speak with the owner who happened to be bringing in supplies and got a little more detail on the wines, than we did from our "winerista". He also mentioned that his niece opened a winery in Los Olivos (Story of Soil), which focused on wine styles a little out of our wheelhouse, but we thought we'd give that a try as well, and it turned out to be a fantastic recommendation. Costa De Oro is a nice place with wine varietals for everyone's tastes. I recommend you stop in and give them a try when you're passing through the area.
