Dr Talarico tended to my child's sports injury, an ankle ligament tear and micro fractures, with alot of care by quickly stabilizing the injury in a cast and advised in a clear and respectful manner for the following weeks. She is turning out to heal a bit faster than usual. Dr Talarico explained everything in office and with the Radiologists medical explanations for greatest clarity. I was thankful to have him on the case and would highly recommend him if you find yourself in need of an Orthopedist. I had a freak accident where time was of the essence Dr. Talarico's candor knowledge And expertise is blended together perfectly? He might be. Kurt with you because he's a very busy man and he's helped thousands. He doesn't have time physical time to explain every little nuance that most people don't understand I looked at him right away and could see not only was he confident he was connected. He's just a professional and most people can't see outside of what they want when you have a professional like that working for you, you have to respect it. I sure did. It took all of 60 seconds to know he was my man in Amsterdam so to speak. He and his team were able to diagnose my problem. Give me a prognosis and then off to surgery within 2 days. The man literally saved my life I'm a 54-Year-Old single father with two young kids. Worst doctor I've ever seen. Why? 1. Mis-diagnosed me with stress fractures in my foot. I even said I don't see it on the x-ray, and he jabbed his finger on it, saying right there, as if it were terribly obvious. MRI then showed no fracture. 2. Practice did not take my health history and information about the pain. Maybe it's because I had been to this practice before, but that was for a different issue at a different time. 3. Doctor said I was "being stupid" for not using crutches (note that he had not told me to use crutches). 4. Asked hardly any questions, didn't listen, didn't seem interested in figuring out what was going on with my feet. 5. Told me I must have severe osteoporosis and to get a wheelchair because I was likely to fall and break a hip or worse. (Later bone density test showed perfectly normal.) He made me so scared to move. He put both my feet in "boots" and I was bedridden for weeks. That took forever to recover from. 6. I mentioned a medical issue during a follow-up appointment, and he exclaimed that I should have told him before! My jaw dropped and I was speechless -- not only had I told him, I had handed him a paper that said so in black-and-white! 7. After I was being treated for extreme pain in one foot, I called his office when the other foot started having extreme pain and left a message for him with his assistant. According to his assistant, he said it was "probably the same thing". I asked what to do, and there was no interest in seeing me, evaluating it, or having me tested. Basically I was told not to walk. 8. When the MRI revealed his misdiagnosis, he said he couldn't help me and rattled off a list of scary-sounding specialists I should see for a list of debilitating conditions I might have. I didn't have any of them. I ended up seeing a different podiatrist who listened and asked questions, correctly diagnosed (and tested to be sure), treated, and now I'm better. This doctor not only didn't help me, he made me worse physically through misdiagnosis. And even worse than that, he made me afraid and think that I'd be disabled for the second half of my life. read more

Waited over an hour to be seen for less than 8 minutes, talked rushed and condescending. Their computers were down, clearly didn't remember me or anything about me. Mentioned " given my history of ankle injuries I should know to do x" I've never had an ankle injury before, never needed a brace or physical therapy. Left wanting to cry. Felt rushed and like he didn't want to be there. Also found away to bring up that I'm on a pain management plan with another doctor even though I never asked for meds. Demoralized. Do not recommend Ross Talarico. I would have been better off just not winging it. Oh and the assistant fitting my brace Told me I have " surprisingly large ankles" and not in a good way. read more

Do NOT waste your time with Dr. Talarico. Dr. Talarico not only misdiagnosed my toe pain, which I learned was a not a result of being fractured but rather was caused by a bunion, he prescribed a boot to immobilize my toe, followed by two additional visits and X-rays. It wasn't until I saw an MD/podiatrist/food surgeon for a second opinion, I learned that nothing that Dr. Talarcio said was accurate and with that neither was his prognosis (PT and slow healing). As a result, six weeks were not only wasted, a fractured shoulder resulted because of a fall in the boot (which was not needed). Stay away from this person. read more

This is an update since my initial review of Dr Ross! Finally, after a month since my achilles rupture/surgery, Dr Ross removed my cast! I can see now the incision is less than 1in long and completely healed! Also, no swelling! Basically, he used the same minimum invasive technique as what's being performed on Aaron Rodgers, and the results are nothing less than amazing! Only a few days after the cast removal I can already stand without crutches/help (although I was being advised to be extremely careful). I also want to give shout outs to Veronica! While all the people at the Oakland office were very nice throughout the whole process, I need to single out Veronica, who patiently (and always with a big smile!) changed my cast multiple times. It was just unbearable for me to have the same cast for so long, but all I had to do is show up at the office, even without an appointment, and she would always help me! Thank you! I went to this practice with 2 fractures: wrist and foot. The wrist surgeon Dr Pitcher was excellent although he neglected to tell me l needed a third follow up visit. I discovered this by looking up other online orthopedic surgeons. But l am writing to mention Dr Ross Talarico and the general practice. I fractured my foot the same day l fractured my wrist, yet no one mentioned foot treatment and l didn't see Dr Talarico until 5 and a half weeks after my fall. I was then X-rayed and put in a CAM boot. I returned to see him a few weeks later. The waiting room was jammed. I waited almost 3 hours to receive an X-ray and see the Dr Talarico. (The X-ray techs were eating their lunch while 4 of us waited just outside the X-ray room.) Finally saw Dr Talarico examined the X-ray, said it was the same and basically talked to me for 5 minutes. But stuck to his original opinion that 3.66 mm was too large a fracture and surgery was probably imminent. I asked him if l had been put in a boot immediately after the fracture and received medical advice, if the fracture would be smaller and surgery unnecessary. His answer was at best unclear and he looked abashed. Finally the office staff was unhelpful and disorganized except for one woman, a receptionist who did the work of ten. The others just sat Behind their computers while she registered patients and made time to talk to the people who had been waiting forever and apologize. I will finish my treatment with Dr Pitcher, although l dread the office, but I will not see Dr Talarico again. read more

Dr. Talarico is an outstanding surgeon. I broke my ankle skiing last winter, and Dr. Talarico fixed me up as good as new. I was back on my feet without a boot in 6 weeks, and I can't wait to get back to the slopes later this winter! Let me start by saying, Dr. Talarico is top-of-the-line. I am thoroughly impressed with his care and haven't had a better medical experience in a long time. I suffered a Lisfranc fracture in my left foot from a fall. When came in, Dr. Talarico cut to the chase and took the time to talk me through not only the nature of the injury, but the procedure to fix it and the recovery process, a quality which is increasingly difficult to find in medical professionals. Dr. Talarico gets to the point, which is what I like about him, so people who need special attention and are sensitive like Stacey B. (Who left a very rude review), shouldn't come see this doctor, and should consider a pediatrician, as it sounds like she would like to be treated as a child. read more

In February I fractured 2 metatarsals. My foot hurt, but I could tolerate it, so I thought it was more likely a sprain and treated it as such. At the end of February I went on a week long backpacking trip. Over the week my pain and swelling increased and I saw my doctor the day after my return. Did my activity make my situation worse? Of course. Do I need a doctor who simply wants to blame me for my condition? Of course not! Dr. Talarico had no interest in me as a patient. I believe he looked at me and saw a 68 year old woman whose life would not be greatly impacted by this injury, anyway. He asked me no questions about my health history, my activities, my hope for treatment. When I attempted to talk to him, he cut me off. When I asked for a prognosis, he became defensive and said, "This isn't my fault". He then told me I should see a physician with more experience and he had one of the women in the office hand me a printout of another doctor's bio. I'm a retired RN, CRRN, Nsg. Manager. I'm not an MD, but I worked with many of them over my 30 year career. A physician that treats patients like this is in the wrong line of work. Medicine isn't simply tests, treatments and payments. The practice of Medicine is an art, and practitioners need to remember that their focus is supposed to be the PATIENT. I fully ruptured my Achilles 8/23 and I had no clue what all went into dealing with a ruptured Achilles. Somehow and luckily I hobbled, (pun intended lol) across Dr. Talarico. He explained all that I was going through and all that I was about to go through with this type of injury. He showed the upmost care leading up to my surgery and during my recovery. My surgery seemed like a walk in the park and the scar was minimal. My appointments during recovery were scheduled with ease at Golden State Orthopedic. Dr. Talarico was reassuring that I was healing nicely and would explain the ultrasounds to me. All in all he made a life altering event seem not so hopeless. It is now 3/24 I have been doing PT and I am walking down stairs and taking long walks. It has not been a full year yet, but I feel good about Dr. Talaricos guidance and my progress this far. In short: Mansplainer with a fragile ego. Ladies especially, find a different doctor. In my first visit, Dr. Talarico seemed not to listen much to what I had to say about my symptoms and, in fact, didn't really let me get much of a word in edge-wise. He gave me some handouts with possible explanations for my foot pain and, when handing them to me, said, "I know this is a lot of information, and it's probably not very interesting to you." Just wow. As it turns out, I'm an MD but hadn't told him that yet, so lol. I returned a week later because the boot he'd given me for my foot actually made my pain worse. He did not believe me and again just kind of kept talking over me and not listening to what I had to say. I wasn't upset at him about the boot making me worse, but he seemed to take it as an attack, got very defensive, and blamed me for my worsening pain. He said I should get a second opinion from another doctor because I had a lot of "theories" about what's going on and he couldn't help me. At that point I did tell him that I'm an MD and he was mansplaining, and then he stormed out of the room. What a dude. This personality type is not uncommon in the world of orthopedic surgeons, but this guy takes the cake! Probably no coincidence that his positive reviews are primarily from men, and his negative reviews are primarily from women. As a doctor, I recommend going to UCSF for any serious medical needs. Office Experience - Dublin is a more positive experience. Appointments keep moving and the wait is typically short. - Oakland - the sign said a 45 min wait. I waited for 2 hours despite my scheduled appointment - On one of my visits, the office cancelled my appointment the day prior to my visit due to his vacation schedule. I asked to see another provider within the Dublin clinic the staff and they said it was not part of the policy so had to wait another 2 weeks. If the situation were reversed I'm pretty sure I would have gotten charged a late fee. Care Quality - Strong experience and provides great detail. - Gave appropriate feedback and answered questions - Does not provide follow up notes via paper and I did not see things in the app. - Can come off as condescending and insincere. - Staff are smart and attentive but with the overbooking - you can tell they are stressed. Please read Julie G's feedback below. She has perfectly captured the experience that I had today. Since Julie's feedback was last year, it is obvious that nothing has changed in the doctor's manner. I called Dr. Talarico's office with specific questions about a procedure for my ankle that was recommended by another doctor. I was given an appt. I have never had an experience with a doctor as I had today with Dr. Talarico. He was a pompous ass. He did not want to listen to what I had to say. He cut me off mid sentence. When I told him I had the same amount of pain as I did 5 weeks ago, he said, "I find that hard to believe." He told me that this procedure was only for surgical patients but no one had told me that when I asked questions and told them what was wrong when I made the appointment. He was condescending, impatient, and really liked to hear himself talk. I had no problem with hearing that this procedure was not right for me. It was the rude manner in which it was explained. Please do yourself a favor and consult with another medical group such as Muir Orthopedic. Since I was in pain and didn't want to drive to Walnut Creek (it's my right ankle), I chose a doctor who was closer to me in Dublin. What a mistake! I have had several surgeries and several non surgical consults with different doctors at Muir Ortho, and I have always been treated with respect. I needed surgery for a very badly broken leg. My encounter with Dr. Talarico left me feeling uncared for. I found him to be arrogant and unkind. He was impatient and condescending, judging me for not being treated for osteoporosis without knowing any details of my decision. I have an idea that perhaps he has a better relationship with men and younger women. I am used to being respectful of and respected by the doctors I consult. This was NOT the case here. His staff was lovely. Since I have had the surgery, I am so glad that I have had a kind and generous rapport with the surgeon from UCSF who was with me every step of the way. read more

I don't have good experience with doctor Talarico, at all. Actually I describe my second visit to him as one of the worse doctor's visits in my life. Yes I did express the inconvenience to ware a boot or strap helper, and I failed to ware those as I felt not at all that I need it. I was expecting any sort of explanation or discussion on that matter, but I just got his harsh response (with the most robot-like tone): 'patient against my treatment so ...' I was hurt by his arrogance and diminishing any personal opionion from a patient. I see no kindness (at least that I can feel) during all time of my two visits. My ankle situation was not severe when I first visited the office after three weeks of slow recoverary and my pain was at level 1 at most. I wanted to be rest assured and know what to do to go back to my normal like, e.g. hiking and workout etc. I regret to accept his treatment more and more since the very first moment I entered his encounter. It took me 20 minutes after I arrived home staying inside my car to try to calm down. I was hurt that much so I decided to come here to let people know my experience. I'd admit that the doctor has nothing far wrong from a professional's point of view. I was hurt by his unforggetable emotionless, dismissive attitude towards me. It made me feel that I have no right to express any different opionion from his, otherwise it's unforgivable mistake and that would be taken as an offence against the doctor's authority. Update: I recevied a phone call and accepted a genuine apology from the doctor. And I feel very sorry about the doctor's personal going-through behind the scene. And I also got kind advices and explanations in the phone call, which I really appreciated. Avoid this doctor at all costs. He pays little to no attention during visits and the office is a nightmare of incompetence and total lack of communication. My first appointment took a solid 90 minutes of additional waiting to actually see the doctor. He repeatedly forgot in which foot I was experiencing symptoms and what the symptoms even were. After my second appointment, I was supposed to be referred to a neurologist to treat my chronic pain. After waiting for a week for the referral and nothing happening, I started calling the office. Nobody at the office answers phones, calls are outsourced to some 3rd party that knows nothing about what is actually happening. Calls are not returned. After a week of spending hours on the phone, achieving nothing, I've had to resort to starting over at square one with a new doctor. Altogether I've wasted weeks of my time and a lot of money to get nowhere. read more

I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Talarico and his staff. I had fractured a toe which needed a pin in order to heal properly and also opted for corrective bunion surgery at the same time. A foot surgery and recovery is no joke and not easy and requires lots of patience but under the constant care of Dr. Talarico, I was in great hands. With explicit post op instructions, regular appointments to keep a close eye on my healing and now moving into physical therapy, I am beyond thrilled with the results and care along the way. I saw Dr. Talarico because of healing of toes from a hammer toe surgery - that had not healed in wo years. He didn't even lift my foot to see my toes - just handed me a document telling me to get a special shoe and it would heal itself. Well it has been a month and this tennis show has done nothing. I saw Dr. Talarico after tearing my ATFL for the 3rd time. I've had 2 previous surgeries to correct this tear along with other ligament tears. Dr. Talarico came in and was very professional yet detached. I don't need a warm and fuzzy doctor, but Dr. Talarico brushed off my tear as if it was just a normal sprain and it would heal. Because this has happened a few times before, I knew this was something that shouldn't just be brushed off as a sprain. I am an active individual and love working out, so I needed a doctor who would help me get down to the bottom of why this kept happening and what we could do to permanently fix this. I feel like Dr. Talarico is wonderful for first-time sprains but not for re-occurring tears and ankle injuries like mine. Granted, this is just my first impression/opinion & only saw him once but was not impresssd. He was also very off-putting over the phone when I called him a few days after my appt with a concern regarding major pain associated with my tear. I injured my foot playing tennis, and the MRI showed a complete tear of the anterior tibialis tendon. I have had good experiences with Muir Orthopedics/Golden State in the past, so they were my first call. They directed me to Dr. Ross Talarico, one of their foot specialists, and I was fortunate to get in to see him very quickly. His diagnosis and proposed surgical repair was straightforward. I had an immediate sense of confidence with Dr. Talarico during our initial consultation. His office confirmed the insurance coverage and was able to get my surgery scheduled in Fremont three days later. The surgery went as planned, without complications, and their follow up was excellent. I have seen him four times since, to evaluate progress, and those meetings are always informative and motivating. He is doing his best to keep me on a slower pace of activities while the tendon fully heals. Physical therapy is going well. I would go back to Dr. Talarico again and give him and his office staff a very high recommendation. read more

I've seen Dr. Talarico for two severe foot problems, and he treated me very well with both of them! I had a bad sprain and fractured left ankle, which he examined, advised against surgery, and fitted me with a snazzy boot. A few months later, I had a bone spur on the top of my right foot, for which he rightly recommended surgery and performed a flawless surgery. It's my first ever time reviewing anything, so suffice to say I've had a wonderful experience with him as a surgeon and post-op doctor. He is skilled, and has a positive and encouraging attitude. It's a joy to chat with him at every visit. He's a no-nonsense guy, who quickly gets to the point, and gives one a realistic timeline of what to expect. I have known Ross personally for many years, but recently have also gotten to know him professionally as a patient. After falling down some stairs and being diagnosed with an avulsion fracture of my ankle, I could not find an orthopedist with availability to see me for follow-up within the month that I was to be out of town. Thankfully, Ross agreed to review my films from a distance and diagnosed not just the one, but also an additional second fracture. In his consultations he has provided exceptional, thorough care: - Strict advice on avoiding any weight bearing (vs urgent care advising against the use of crutches) for a week. - As my swelling subsided, I reached out to Ross by text and he advised that I could start specific, light, range of motion stretches. - A week after that, we had another call to review how things were progressing and he advised me to stop use of my boot a couple of weeks earlier then urgent care had expected. - At my follow-up. an in person visit to Dr. Talarico's office, he reviewed my injury with the aid of a physical anatomical model so that I could better understand where the specific fractures occurred, what exercises were the most appropriate at this time and reinforced how long I should anticipate the ankle to continue to heal/when to expect it to feel back to normal. He also recommended physical therapy for a speedier recovery, which I am eager to begin. All of Dr. Talarico's guidance has allowed my injury to heal much sooner then anticipated with a reduced risk of permanent damage and a speedier return to regular exercise. I had an experience similar to Diane G- I have NEVER been treated so horribly by a Dr. as I did with Dr. Talarico. I was recommended to his office by a hospital when I was injured. He talked over me, he was condescending, he showed me x-rays of other patients' injuries to try and convince me to get surgery (even though they had completely different injuries than I did). He was very rushed and would cut me off and belittle me. I left feeling unheard and actually bullied on more than two occasions. When I finally had another office recommended to me it was a complete 180! they concluded that I did not need surgery, and in fact, his measurements on my injury were completely incorrect. I am sure there are far better Dr.'s at Webster Orthopedics than this guy. He has an agenda and pushes it HARD. Save yourself the time and find someone else. read more
