This was maybe one of the best meals we had in Ponta Delgada, and that is a massive compliment! We made reservations about two weeks out for the 9pm seating and it was sooo worth it! We started with the cheese fondue and the croquettes. We moved onto the beet risotto and the zucchini cannelloni. Lastly we had the banana dessert that was TO DIE FOR. We were told by our host that this was the best vegetarian food on the island, and we completely agree! It was hard to get a reservation (the were booked several days out), so we just did takeout instead. We were incredibly happy with both of the dishes we tried. The mushroom scallops were beautifully presented and had an excellent sauce, and the sushi cones (temaki) were full of umami flavor. The restaurant is in a small side street a couple of minutes from the center of town, and the interior is small and lively. Our service was polite and friendly. Definitely would recommend to anyone seeking upscale food on the island - and remember take out is always an option! read more

My family and I made a reservation to eat here while we were on the island and it did not disappoint. My husband was pleased to find almost everything on the menu is gluten free. We have been vegetarian for almost two decades, thus we have eaten at many vegetarian restaurants all around the world. This was one of the best. The crispy tofu was perfect - crispy and delish. Soup of the day was zucchini with a delightful oil artfully put on the top. The zucchini cannoli was tasty and served with the lightest sweet potato chips and salads. Let me tell ya, I came here for lunch to give this place a shot... and was back at least 2 more times during my stay in the Azores. The food here is phenomenal, just phenomenal! The menu is different each day and each dish is just bursting with flavor. You will smile as you appreciate the sophisticated concoction of flavors in each bite. And then to make it even sweeter, the desserts here are out of this world good. And you get huge portions! Make sure to share the desserts unless you really want to stuff yourself. We had a wonderful dinner at Rotas! Be warned: seems like you need a reservation. We luckily stumbled in around 9pm on a Thursday and someone had just canceled, so we took their spot. Another few couples came in after us and we turned away. The photos don't do this place justice. It's actually quite charming and cute. The service is great, and the waiter was wonderful. Most important, after days of eating heavy Spanish food before we got to the Azores, the food was fresh and light. We had the gazpacho (1.5E), and the goat cheese, basil and tomato crostini (5E) for apps. Both were great. For mains, we had the warm lentil salad, and coconut wraps. Both were very well done, piping hot and packed with fresh vegetables. Both were also around 10 euros. We left feeling great, and refreshed from all the veggies :) With a bottle of wine, and two desserts (the cheesecake is great, and light!), the whole dinner was still under 50 euros. It took me a while to write this review because there is so much to say about this place. First of all: don't leave it to the last day of your holidays! You want to be able to come back here another and another and another time and try the whole menu and have again your favourite dishes. And then you will wish there will be a restaurant like this next to your apartment, wherever you live, and that there will be a recipe book of Rotas. The place is like someone's living room and you will be welcomed by the familiarity of the staff. The decor is simple, vintage, colourful and tasteful. The food is delicious! I have been there three times in 4 days and could not get enough! At lunch they have two dishes with tea for really cheap. At dinner the menu changes seasonally with some evergreens like the eggplants cannelloni (sooo good!). Everything we tried was really really tasty! If there is still on the menu, try the tofu with passion fruit and black rice: you wish tofu was always cooked like this! The desserts are also amazing: the cheesecake with pumpkin and nuts is a must, the lemon meringue is delicious and the chocolate secret comforting. I cannot recommend this place enough, just trust me and go there! Even if you are a meat-eater (like me) you will be conquered by Rotas! read more

I recommend the Tagine and the pasta (with berries and cream sauce), also the starters (we tried tree and they were all fantastic). Great, locally-made desserts as well. This was hands down my favorite restaurant while visiting Sao Miguel. We found it while wandering around, and returned twice more before the end of our trip. Such a nice and cozy space, very comfortable, and the owners (?) and staff are so friendly. The food - two thumbs up. Vegan, organic and made with love. And they are so genuinely friendly and were so touched by our compliments. But my most favorite thing was the desserts! The lemon merengue was the best I've ever had. We were lucky to eat there, as seating is limited and they offered lunch and dinner hours only. Definitely recommend it. read more

this place came so highly recommended. hard to believe that a vegetarian restaurant has a wait list and normally requires reservations. it is the #1 restaurant on Trip Advisor on the island for a reason. we arrived early, so were able to score a seat. there are only a few tables in what is a very cozy, charming, and romantic bottom flat of a multi-story home. the servers all speak english which is a plus as a tourist. both the wife and i are veggies, and i cannot find a menu online to recant what we ate, but don't just take it from us. we overhead several american tourists at our hotel throughout the week that they loved this place...meat eaters at that! the desserts, also splendid. it's a little hard to find, but the downtown is small and everyone knows it. just ask if you can't find it. read more

We were visiting São Miguel and Yelped vegetarian restaurants in the area. It's a small cozy place with only 6 tables. We stopped in for lunch and gave it a try. We were given a choice of chickpeas in a curry sauce or oatmeal and mushroom cakes. We were able to try both and all I can say is both items were delicious. The desserts are fabulous too and the service was great. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try whether you are a vegetarian or not. read more
