I am writing to share my experience with Dr. Sean Hoffman at the Rothman Institute. Over the course of three visits spanning nearly twelve weeks, I was repeatedly misdiagnosed and never received a physical examination. Despite my continued complaints of significant pain, I was told that "it just takes time." Eventually, I sought a second opinion from another physician, who correctly diagnosed my condition and performed surgery. I am now healing and recovering well. Since then, I have spoken with other female patients who reported similar experiences--specifically, feeling that Dr. Hoffman did not listen to their concerns or take their symptoms seriously. I felt it was important to bring this to your attention in the hope that future patients will receive the attentive and thorough care they deserve. read more

I was scheduled for a 2:40 tele-appointment for today 5/12/25 to find out the results of my MRI. I began waiting by my phone at 2:30, and when no one called by 3:15, I called the rude people at your call center. I was told that I did not have an appointment, even though I was looking right at the appointment card. My choices were 1) I could reschedule for two weeks away, or 2) they would inform Manahawkin of the problem and I should expect a return call from them in 48 hours. I explained that this was their mistake, not mine, and I really needed the MRI results because my back is in constant pain. She said that was the bst that she could do - very nasty! So right now I am sitting here with no appointment, waiting for the next 48 hours for a return call. I will never recommend Rothman to anyone. read more

I requested an emergency appointment for a broken clavicle. I specifically requested the Manahawkin office as I did not feel comfortable driving any further due to the right broken clavicle (I was 30 min away in Beach Haven, NJ). I spoke with the schedulers several times on the phone and a supervisor was able to add me on for an appt in Manahawkin. I received a text confirming the Manahawkin appt. When I got to the office, I was told that the PA and his supervising doctor were not even in the office AT ALL that week. How could I be given an appointmen in Manahawkin if the provider was not even in that office all week??? I was told if I wanted to be seen, I could drive to Little Egg Harbor - ANOTHER 40 min away. This obviously was unacceptable as it was unsafe to drive that far and then back over one hour, so I asked if another doctor could see me, especially since this was NOT my mistake but was a large mistake on their part. I was told there was a sports medicine doctor and a rehab doctor in the office, yet they both said they could not see me. This mistake is sloppy and unacceptable, especially since I said on multiple occasions on the phone that I was not interested in any other office other than Manahawkin, a supervisor was involved, and I received a text confirming the appointment in the Manahawkin office. I hope this problem with scheduling can be corrected so other patients do not experience a similar situation. read more

My daughter had an appointment two weeks ago with Dr. Chec. I always heard that Rothman was so great. We did not have a good experience at all. The first thing I don't care for is that the office staff does not answer phones instead it rings in a call center. They place you on hold for too long. The first impression of his assistant on that day was not a positive one. She did not greet us and no personality at all. Very cold. She asked my daughter several questions including if she smoked. My daughter answered that she did smoke. The Assistant proceeded to type the answers on a laptop. She left the room and Dr. Chec came in. My daughter explained the pain she was having (sciatica) and very bad lower back pain. He just touched the side of her knees and did not even check her back. We both felt that he was not taking her seriously. I asked if he could write her a script for an MRI since bulging and herniated discs run in the family. He didn't feel that an MRI was a necessity. Ok so how do you know if she has herniated discs if you don't do an MRI?? So he told us that his assistant would call the insurance company to see if they would approve it. (She called me as we were leaving and said the insurance approved the MRI but did not give us an authorization #) He gave my daughter a script for the MRI and for Physical Therapy. He also prescribed a medication (Meloxicam). We walked out of the office very disappointed. When my daughter picked up the medication she read that his medication can cause stomach bleeding if you smoke. Did he not read the information that was on the laptop during the appointment? So I called the office manager and spoke to him about our experience. The next day Dr. Chec's assistant for that day called me and said since my daughter was on so many meds that he felt uncomfortable prescribing anything else. She said "Any meds you take, you shouldn't smoke". Where did she get this information?? So now he recommends a pain clinic. Why wasn't this mentioned at the appointment??? I should have never taken her here. read more

Terrible experience with Billing Dept. NEVER answer phone, always experiencing higher than normal calls. Sent them letter with copies of my three (3) insurances, even wrote to Dr. and sent him copies. It's been ignored and was turned over to collection agency! Collection agency claims they will only submit to one insurance. Do not have that problem with any other doctors! In the past my husband and I both had surgery at Rothman without a billing issue. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Nuttini and think he is great. I had another appointment with him for my arm & shoulder a few months ago. The office called and cancelled said he would not be in. Did I want to rescheduled? Yes please so I did. A month later because of my schedule. They call again and left a message to cancel. When I called back you never get the office itself it goes to South River or PA. So when I called back AGAIN I was on hold for 38 minutes the first time then had to go back to work in the morning. 49 minutes in the afternoon. Then had to go back to work. So when I went on line to "CHAT" with Pearl Wilson from Rothman & explained the situation before I could explain everything and she asked if I was in pain I said yes she said I will send you to a Dr on line who can talk to you about your pain for $5 and you will get the $5 back. I went to type in no thank you I will just go to another Dr. I could no longer get message her. If anyone has to be on hold this long for ANY Dr. this is just not right. I see Dr. Martin Ramsey at Rothman in Manahawkin NJ. He has worked on both of my shoulders over the last 4 years. I have not had surgery but physical therapy and cortisone shots in both shoulders. I lead an active life and really appreciate Dr Ramsey. He is upbeat, energetic and very knowledgeable. He really knows what he is doing and I recommend him to everyone. My family member had a total hip replacement, anterior approach by Dr. Ponzio, who falsely claimed that things were going to be great. Recovery would be quick and easy. Well, as a Physical Therapist for almost 25 years, things were of course not as planned. Needless to say, there were complications of infection, as well as complete resistance from Dr. Ponzio to receive any Physical Therapy or home care services post operatively. Dr. Ponzio thinks that she is so fabulous that an 80 year old patient does not need support by a Physical Theapist to get through recovery. Unfortunately, recovery was not good. My family member is still using a walker after 8 weeks post surgery. She was told by her therapist in the hospital that she would been on a cane in 1 week after surgery. Again, as a Physical Therapist, we all know this was never going to happen. Dr. Ponzio works like a machine, but does not realize that her patients are not machines. Every patient requires a different level of care, but Dr. Ponzio does not agree with this. I got some insane excuse from her Physician's Assistant Michael that Physical Therapists dislocate hips and that is why they don't believe in therapy. I am sure that there is good and bad in every field, but this is very uncommon. Dr. Ponzio is single minded and treats a client like a body part and a statistic, not a human being who is coming to her with an orthopedic ailment that affects the whole body and mind. I have been treating patients from Rothman Institute for almost 25 years. This is why we chose this Orthopedic Institute. I always saw amazing results from their surgeons. This experience was a complete disappointment. A great surgery comes with a great experience and a great outcome. It is not just about a surgeon in an operating room. Dr. Ponzio needs to realize that a patient needs more than that. She is not even considering post operative support and treatment to get good outcomes like her colleagues have been doing for years. It upsets me as a clinician that I have to leave this kind of feedback about a surgeon that is part of an amazing group of doctors. read more

My wife made an appointment after a bad fall where she twisted her knee, she already was being treated for the other knee and other ailments. She called and got an appointment over a week away. My wife had missed work as she could not walk in the leg. Finally the day of the appointment arrived and I took off of work and she obviously took off of work to make the appointment. By this time she was able to walk on the leg a little and her boss was upset as she was missing work so she forced herself back to work but on appointment day she left early. This is when we find out that the address for the Manahawkin site is wrong in the internet and when you try to use a navigation program it takes up no where near the actual location. We called the number and were told of the error and we were given directions by the person on the phone who guided us turn by turn. We asked if being a few minutes late would make a difference and they said no you will be okay. Once we finally arrived at the location, my wife who could barley walk has to walk all the way in (in pain) a downpour that was causing major flooding in Manahawkin only to be told that they are rescheduling the appointment for another two weeks because we were late. So my wife saw no one, no one cared, and no attempt at even asking how she felt was every made. How many times have we been to a rothman site and had to wait an hour for someone to see us, and then to say reschedule after they knew the address was wrong on the internet and we had made every effort to notify them. We spoke directly with their representative who actually cared enough to try and help us only to run into someone who could care less if you were in pain or if you needed help, simply looked at a clock and said "next". Don't even get me started with the fact that $5 a gallon gasoline wasted as these places are not even close to you and they don't care about bouncing you from clinic to clinic. But now we have to wait over 2 weeks because they felt we were late and that is enough to deny medical treatment and it's their fault that we got lost. Terrible service and a body count ideology so they can bill what they need and go home early. I want my wife to go to another doctor as I know this place could care less. read more

I previously reported horrible reviews for the Brick, NJ location (Brielle Orthopedics, associated with Rothman). They deserved the bad reviews. I am writing regarding the Manahawkin location. They were outstanding in every way. I'd like to commend both Michelle and Brianna for their professionalism, courtesy, and an absolute concern. They went above and beyond. Also, Dr. Zachery Post is great and I highly recommend him. It's worth the 40-minute drive (as opposed to 10 to the Brick office) to get the care that they provide. Keep up the great work! read more

I called today because my 7 year old and fell and fractured her arm. The urgent care we saw yesterday referred us to Rothman in Manahawkin for a follow up within 1-2 days. After waiting 20 minutes for someone to answer the phone, Heather told me, "I don't have anyone here that can see a 7 year old. Go to CHOP." Really? CHOP for a broken arm? My girlfriend's 9 year old and 5 year old have been seen by this same practice by Dr. Nakashian in the Brick office, so not sure why I was being referred to CHOP. Thankful for Pediatric Orthopaedics in Neptune who took my daughter in right away. Don't waste your time at Rothman. read more
