Ive been to Rothrock twice. The first time I got a simple coffee and met for a business talk. It's a great social place to meet and it has that social and busy vibe going for it. My second time visiting I ordered a triple shot oatmilk latte with vanilla syrup. The person working the register thought I said "chia" instead of "triple shot" and I tried to correct to a regular latte, but I ended up being served a regular latte with dairy. I'd like my order repeated back to me to avoid these sorts of things. read more

This is my besties favorite coffee shop so whenever I'm in town we stop by! We stopped on Sunday with the dog (who stayed outside) we had coffees and toast on the patio and it was wonderful. She got the strawberry mint with marscapone and I had the banana and almond butter toast. We split them in half so we could have some of each. Nice little coffee shop. They keep things simple but friendly and cheerful. Personally I drink tea rather than coffee and I found their selection of teas was small but very good. This was so close to my hotel that I had to try it. It was really the Lox toast pics on Yelp that brought me here! The front counter person was so nice and friendly. Every time I had questions he was so informative and friendly! I wanted to try the Darjeeling earl grey with steamed milk and a touch of honey (I know it's a "London fog"). It was fabulous! I also got the whole milk latte and the lox toast. It had veggie cream cheese, salmon, cucumbers and picked onions. Exactly what I needed after my long flight the night before and a workout. It was kinda crowded around 1:15pm ish and died down a lot around 1:30. There were a lot of people using their laptops on the benches inside and limited seating outside. Stopped in based on the good reviews. We were greeted kindly and were able to place our order right away. I got cold brew and my husband ordered iced coffee and a biscuit with hot honey. After about a 5 minute our order was ready and they gave my husband HOT coffee. He just drank it. Not sure what went wrong there. My cold brew was fine...nothing special. My husband enjoyed the hot honey. We didn't stay as there was limited seating. I would definitely give it another try when I'm in the area. read more

Nice little place that's clean and friendly. I wanted a coffee that was strong but had a little whisper of lavender and I got just that. The lox toast was substantial and filling, lots of good flavors together. Parking is easy and convenient. The only reason I take off a star is price point. It is far too high. Not enough competition around so they're getting away with it but 15 bucks for a coffee drink and lox toast is a bit outrageous. Overall recommended though and will return to try other things. read more

5 stars for cold brew coffee, cold brew tea, customer service, and modern interior design. Their cold brew is very, very good. Whichever roast that is of their coffees is worth getting at your next visit. You can taste and smell every profile indicated in the description - even my coffee disliking friend took a sip and said "wait, is this what coffee's supposed to taste like?" Yes!! It is!! If it's made well - as they do as Rothrock!!! Just a small note though - I was rather disappointed in the latte. Compared to the cold brew the flavors and aromas just weren't as prominent and actually tasted incredibly weak. There should have been a shot in there but half the time I was drinking it wondering if it was just milk/foam with a kind of slight coffee smell? I'd also maybe forgo their food options unless you're really hungry. They are all beautifully presented but the the flavors aren't all that good. BUT LOVE THE 6 GRAIN BREAD that they use on all their toasts/sandwiches. It they just sold the bread I'd buy it. So - get the cold brew coffee, cold brew tea is good too, and I'd recommend that you get other coffees cold or hot without any additions like milk or syrup because just the coffee they make is good and extras would just muddle the beautiful complexities. And see if you can just get their toast. :) read more

Mixed feelings. I Love to support small business, but their decaf coffee is just ok. Their hot chocolate is weak in the chocolate flavor and more just sugary sweet. There was nowhere to sit when we got there as every table was taken by people on their own laptops. Every seat. They were all there an hour later, the exact same people in every seat! Their drinks for were empty, they Were not eating anything. They were just working on their laptops. This is the same thing I see every time I'm in there, which is not often because I can never find a place to sit down. Taking my coffee to go makes it less of an experience and more of a coffee to go in my car. read more

Rothrock Coffee is an all-around great place. It has great seating. If you're by yourself and working on your computer, with a group of friends, with your family and kids, or just by yourself there's plenty of room. But those with computers and needing to find an outlet they are limited here. It also has excellent coffee. I ordered a Cortada and a pour over and they were top notch like other specialty coffee shops I've visited. They really know how to get the best flavors out of the Coffee been using that nice Probat coffee roasters that sits in the shop. They also have a lot of great supplies. From all the equipment you might need to make coffee at home, to a variety of coffee from instant coffee to whole bean coffee, two T-shirts, and to mugs. I also have some great food to enjoy. Sandwich that I ordered was really good. It wasn't anything too spectacular about it, but it hit the spot. What I felt was the greatest part of my visit was the service I got. The barista's were friendly, smiling, attentive to the customers, and wanted to make your experience a good experience. I've visited on a Monday afternoon. It was fairly crowded but there was always a seat available when I was there. I plan to stop by again when I'm traveling through town. read more

You can get a great cup of coffee here. I like their Cortada. They do serve pastries here and a very small menu of food options but if you're looking for gluten-free or vegan options this is NOT the place for you. It's a very large space for a coffee shop with lots of tables. It's a little bit on the noisier side at least when I went there. Most of the tables were full. They roast their own coffee beans here so it gives you a very nice coffee smell. I gave it a four star rating not because of the coffee the coffee is amazing but because they didn't carry any gluten-free or vegan options really in the space was not quite as cozy as I'd like a coffee shop to be but for others it seems like they don't mind a large space that's a little noisier because it was a hopping busy place. read more

The coffee is wonderful, so many interesting blends to try. Their espresso drinks are also excellent, especially the cortado--fun to try if you've never had one. Their food options are nice but limited. I have had the avocado toast and many of their pastries which were delightful. I come here often and will continue to as long as I am in the area. read more

I love you Rothrock, but I have some suggestions. First, you gotta get faster at making food. The avocado toast shouldn't take 20 minutes. It's delicious, but no one has that kind of time to wait for 20+ minutes when its busy. Second, the last time I was there, a saturday morning, the music was so loud I could barely hear them call names! And I'm not old. Just turn it down a little, please! Third, you need 2 cash registers. Things can get backed up so quickly that a second register is absolutely needed. If the person in front of you doesn't know what to order, before you know it, there's a line of like 5 people behind you. And a second register would get orders to the cooks more quickly. And last, put your menu on your website! That way people can be better prepared to order when they come in. Just my observations to make this awesome place even better. read more

This is the first time in a little while that I've written a great review while still at the establishment, but while I've been here working, I've been ruminating on what to write. I'm new to the State College area - my fiancé and I will be moving up here later this year - and I started to make a list of restaurants and cafes that I'd try to check out as a way of getting to know the area. Something that's really surprised me about State College is that there are so many little cafes and coffeeshops, but I was drawn to Rothrock since 1. it's not downtown and 2. it has such stellar (and not too many) reviews. Walking in, it looked crowded - there were some people using the standing bar to work, and all of the side seating was full. I was worried about seat availability and noise, but actually found a place to sit almost immediately and haven't been bothered by the typical murmur at all. The interior is very airy - there's high warehouse ceiling and lovely warm lights that illuminates the space, which makes working anywhere inside very easy. I am particularly a fan of my spot right now - I'm in front of the coffee bean roaster (super cool that they roast their own!), which is a comfortable little bar with adequate plugs available. The menu looks simple, but it's actually fairly extensive, from pour overs to nitrogen brews (and affogatos!) I stuck with my typical cappuccino and was pleasantly surprised that it was delivered to where I was sitting, even though I was keeping an eye out to pick it up. Latte art was lovely and the drink was just a touch strong, but great (who complains about strong drinks at a cafe?) I also had an almond croissant, which I was surprised how much I liked. I wish it was warmed up before serving, but it was still really great-tasting and generous with the almonds. I didn't notice until later that there was an actual food menu, so I'll try that out next time. I suspect that this will be a good cafe to frequent - the layout is nice, all of the workers seem knowledgeable and friendly, and the atmosphere is very workable and light. I love this cafe. The matcha and chai lattes are excellent and I usually alternate between the two. At this point the staff recognize me and will ask me about my day. This is one of the few, nicely lit (there are skylights) cafes that open at 7 am and they probably have the best food menu of all the places that I work in outside of my office. There are a large number of outlets so this is a perfect working cafe. The only downsides are: - They close at 5 pm, which is a bit early for writing. - The air runs a little cold so I typically bring a light jacket and scarf. - Seating is sometimes limited (especially between 11 am and 1 pm). I never have an issue in finding somewhere to sit if I'm by myself; however it is not always next to an outlet. That said, enough people move around that it's not too difficult to snag a table if you are planning to stick around for a while. read more

The best coffee in state college. A little on the pricey side, but definitely worth it. My favorite is their Iced Caramel Macchiato. The only downside is the price and the size of the coffee. I'm someone who loves coffee, and can easily drink a 32 oz iced coffee in less than 10 minutes, so for me, this is somewhat of a treat and something to savor. read more
