This is one of those off-the-beaten-path establishments that you would be remiss to miss out on if you're a fan of bubble tea. I don't even live here, but whenever I come to visit this is on the list of must-visit places. I go for one particular item: lavender milk bubble tea. No bubble tea can compare, and believe me, I have tried! When ordering, you have an option of two sizes: small or large. There are MANY tea flavors in addition to several great add-in options (boba, lychee, beans, etc). The coolest part about this place is the interactive dining experience. We had two slices of their so called crepe cakes ($9.50 each), Nutella and Tiramisu. At that price point you would expect premium quality but what you get is junk - sorry, no other word for it. Bland, mushy layered crepes made with what must have been the cheapest ingredients available, some powdered cocoa (or was it?) et voila! The Tiramisu did have a very slight coffee flavor, which is more than I can say about the Nutella cake. Seriously, did they even use 1g of Nutella to make that thing? I doubt it, but if they did, the amount was so minuscule as to be indiscernible. In sum, cheap junk for twice the price of real food just about anywhere else. Drinks here aren't too bad, mango green tea was pretty good but the taro milk tea was really thick and barely had any jelly. Service was not good, I don't think the girl said a single word other than calling out the drinks. This has happened every time I've been there, at least a hi would even be okay. Interior is very cute and much like your typical Asian cafe, and the offerings looked good. Fiancé and I dropped by while exploring downtown after dinner in hopes of some dessert! Coming in, it's a little odd that you can't see the full menu from where you order, so the layout is a little awkward. Also, service seemed a little lackluster - we were clearly unsure of what to order, but it seemed more of an annoyance with our cashier staring blankly at us. Since this is located close to campus, I'm guessing that this is popular with students (and apparently a maid/butler cafe had just ended) so I understand why the staff might be tired, but anyways. I ended up getting a Thai Tea milk tea, along with a tiramisu crepe cake. The Thai milk tea didn't seem all that flavorful - you couldn't really tell that it was a Thai tea - though the bubble consistency was good. Also, the small size is a rather generous portion! I really love crepe cakes, but I wasn't wow'd by their tiramisu one - construction was good and it looked wonderful, but the flavor felt overwhelming coffee/cream rather than a tiramisu. Maybe will give the green tea cake a try next time? Seating is ample, but a little strangely laid out (there's a booth you walk into coming in, which kind of blocks the register area), and the tables further in are close enough together that it feels like your neighbors are sitting next to you. I imagine it's a nice place to work when it's not crowded! Overall, I might pop here when I'm craving bubble tea and some Asian desserts, but likely wouldn't go out of my way otherwise. read more

No better place to visit for bubble tea in State College! My friends and I go probably once a week and we are never disappointed. My personal favorite is the Green Milk Tea with 50% sugar and the bobas (can't have bubble tea without the boba!) Everyone there is super nice and the service is very fast, while you spit your tea in the cafe you can enjoy their free wifi and play with the jenga set they have out on one of the tables. I'm a huge fan of bubble tea. And for central PA, this place is pretty solid. The bubble tea could come with a little less ice, but other than that it's a good choice for an afternoon pick up or an evening treat. I am dying to try one of their crepe layer cakes; they always look killer when I walk past the display case. What really sets this apart though, is this place's devotion to the local Asian community. Penn State has a rather sizeable Asian and Asian American community, and Cafe Wow seems to serve and assist them in a way that I really admire. I've seen Asian interest frats and sororities do fundraisers here. I've seen also seen dozens of kids just hanging out, reading, studying, or playing some of the games they have lying around. Great little boba place tucked away from the main Street. Don't forget to check in for 10% off! I loved their Thai milk tea with boba, hit just the craving I had for something sweet but light after lunch- that would also cool me down from the summer heat. We like to joke that Cafe Wow has the best atmosphere of the boba spots in town, but the worst bubble tea. It's obvious that the teas are made from powder, and the tapioca tastes like rubber in all honesty. I would come here often just for the convenience of the location in comparison with Kung Fu Tea and Momotaro, but since Tea Time opened up right behind Cafe Wow, I don't think I'll ever be back. Kiwistrawberry smoothie is very fresh because of the actual kiwi fruit being blended in with the rest of strawberry smoothie, no artifical color used. As my friend and I visit family in state college, I enjoy milk tea. I drank it nearly everyday whenever I was in China, and do not have it in my city. So I always take advantage of the spots we stop at that do. This place disappointed me. When asked if they had hot milk tea, because it was snowing outside which made it way too cold for an iced milk tea, plus I've always preferred warm milk teas taste, they stayed they could not do warm milk tea. Just milk tea with no ice. As I looked around the cafe, I noticed a gentleman holding some warm milk tea (it's always held in a separate container.) I am, however, not one to make a scene and just asked for no ice and still basically froze when drinking it outside. The taste was very average. As if I could have made it myself at home. I asked for oolong milk tea (normally I get regular milk tea but I love oolong) and there was no oolong taste. Very disappointed but a cute little shop. read more

They claim they open at 11 am, but no one was inside. I waited 15 min for them to come open the door. I tried to order a bubble tea, and they told me the bubbles were not ready. If they knew bubbles took a while to prepare, why wouldn't they come in early to be ready to serve by 11 am? This is what most food service joints do. Also, 11 am is the lunch bracket, so there isn't the excuse of it being too early to serve customers. The staff did not acknowledge me as I came in, and they did not apologize for poor service. For a bobba tea place in college it's pretty good. I would recommend this for a first timers place. I got the Taro milk tea and the Avacado Milkshake. The Avacado tasted very clean and delicious!
