I'm reviewing this as a roommate to the person who called today, Nov 14, 2025 for a clogged kitchen drain. The appointment was set for 4-6 pm. Currently its after 9 pm, still haven't received a call and still no plumber has shown up. I called after 6 and I was told that there is a slight delay and we are the next on the route. The best plumbing service we have utilized - changed things up in a utility sink and added a new sump pump in a box and we used them for a new hot water heater. They did great both times deserving of 5 stars. However, the reason for 3 stars is when they were here the second time around the worker was in his truck at 2:12 when my son walked by to see him playing a game on his tablet and the worker didn't come back in until 2:30 with my bill. Of course charging me until 2:30, as a charge is added every 15 minutes. Not cool! Note to company: Don't push your workers to stall to upcharge your customers. I would recommend them a hundred times over if it wasn't for this practice. And reading some reviews, I am not the first. read more

completely unresponsive. they were supposed to come between 12 and 2, showed up at 4:30, didnt call. fix needed a part, said they'd call Monday or Tuesday with the part. didn't call. I feel bad because I can remember his name, but our plumber was one of the best. Super friendly and so fast. We had a major clog in our lines that caused everything to back into our tub. He got it un clogged in less than an hour. And he was one of the most friendly people I've met. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. Plumbers are amazing!!! read more

I would NOT recommend this company. We paid $1300 for a water heater in September 2020 (so JUST over a year ago). Having an issue with the pilot light going out. Called this morning and was told it would be $200 minimum (service call and then hourly rate) to come fix it even though the part is under warranty. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY Our sewer was backed up. We had the septic tank pumped (350.00, still had problems. Roto-rooter came to our house on a Monday. They could not get it unplugged. My husband and I had already dug up the dirt around the pipe that comes out of the house and into the septic tank. He took out a saw and cut our pipe. He stated that there were 2 area's of a septic tank and that the other side of the septic tank needed pumped and we would need a new baffle. (have no idea what that is) We were charged $200.00 and he said that a rough estimate would be around 1200.00 but someone would e-mail me with the estimate. I called and was told they were working on it. Here it is Friday and still do not have an estimate. Tuesday I called them and was told they were working on it. Luckily, I called another company on Wednesday morning. They came out, looked at the problem, went and got the parts and came back and fixed it for 640.00. The problem was that tree roots had grown through the pipe and was blocking the pipe. The part of the baffle was a small action figures torso and leg. (like one from a McDonalds meal.) read more

I've always liked Roto Rooter. They came promptly and provided a decent, simple service by rooting out the drain in the basement of our old historic home. But y'know? the price is just too damn high now. Last time we noticed creep, as our tech took his own bloody time getting the work done. Then now, two years later after a backup--we're charged 270$ for a simple clean-out of a common drain. Our tech, a really nice guy, came in, schlepped his machine downstairs, rooted the drain--then spent 45 minutes casually running water to check if various drains were 'open'. Yeah, they're open ....there's was only one stopped, a common line. I think we're getting the time deliberately stretched out so they can charge more ka-Ching. And the final price was ridiculous. Next time I'm calling Discount Drain Cleaning. I have friends who also like Butler Rooter, in Grand Rapids (he doesn't do Kalamazoo County). Save your money --go elsewhere. read more

I was sent an email with their technicain's picture attached and notified that the technician would arrive at my home within the next (2) hours. In less than an hour, their technician arrived, cleared the roots that has build-up in the main drain line from my house to the city sewer. We had this nasty smell in our house coming from our downstairs bathroom. We finally couldn't figure it out on our own and called Roto-Rooter They did the job of discovering the "blockage" and then pulled it out of our pipes. That is where the positives end with this company. After they discovered the cause, they left their trash in my small bathroom trash can and didn't clean up after themselves. Also, they broke one of THEIR bits and made my husband pay them $40 to replace it!! Um, why on earth would you make us pay for something that YOU own when it was YOU that broke it??? I wouldn't charge one of my patients if they broke my stethoscope or a blood pressure cuff. Just irresponsible on their part. So basically the guy that came out got paid for his time PLUS another $40. What a freaking rip off because we STILL are having the issue and it is getting way worse than it has ever been! read more

When we moved back into our house we discovered we didn't have any water in the kitchen. I called Roto-Rooter simply because they are a big name and it was Saturday afternoon and we were moving. We were exhausted and I needed simple. I explained to the very young girl on the phone that we had water everywhere in the house except for the kitchen and then asked if their rates were different on Saturday. She assured me weekend rates were not different, they did not charge a flat fee and she would send a plumber right out. An hour later a drain guy showed up. He was about the nicest drain guy on Earth, but he couldn't help us, so he left and called his co-worker. When the plumber showed up it was explained to us that they have some problems with the girls who answer the phones, so our call was misrouted. The plumber (who reeked of cigarettes) "fixed" the sink by removing the internal filter on our faucet so we no longer have any pressure control. When he left we still had a leak under the sink. He was very personable, but he probably could use a plumbing lesson on not taking short cuts and laziness. I'll do what I should have done from the start and call a small local plumber to fix the problem correctly. **Roto-Rooter accepts debit cards, but they wanted to write our card number down and "hold it" through the weekend because they don't run numbers until Monday. Our sewer pipe clogged, causing a basement drain to backup when running the washing machine. I called RR on Monday morning and was shocked when she said someone was available within an hour. The office called later and gave me a 15 minute notice when the plumber would arrive and a cost range (a minimum and a not-to-exceed amount). Steve was extremely polite, listening carefully and explaining what he thought the problem was and what he would do to fix it. Within two hours he had the clog cleared and tested it with the washing machine to ensure it would drain. Before doing additional work, he gave me a revised not-to-exceed amount and requested my approval. The cost did exceed the original estimate, but we purchased two additional items (a drain cover and a gallon of drain treatment) and had Steve clean out the basement drain. Overall, I was very pleased with the RR prompt service and accurate estimate and Steve's polite, neat, thorough and effective service. Basement sewer wasn't pumping out. Technician came and messed around for over an hour and decided he couldn't fix it. Turns out he's not a plumber. He had me pay for his time. HUGE MISTAKE. Actual plumber came and unplugged the pump. In the process he splashed sewer water on the hot water heater which caused that to fail. He charged me for his time. I paid over $500 to get the pump unplugged! Their boss came the next day to fix the water heater and had to order a part. Made my wife pay another $30 to get the part next day!?! Toto rooter didn't even have to pay for the part. They called the manufacturer and claimed it was a warranty failure. BEWARE - I feel like we were way overcharged and mistreated relative to the damaged hot water heater. read more

Do not use them, the plumbers who do the work are scamsters and will lie about the job so as to charge you the most, they do not even do the job properly so they can charge you for a second visit. We have apartments in Columbus that were blocked and backed up, called Roto Rooter and scheduled a call out, 1) They never came so I had to call the next day and schedule another call out. 2) When the first guy came out he went to the most expensive option (water Jetting) $991 later and "cleared the drains" one of our tenants told him about the mess inside, but he did not go in and check, instead he left. the Tenant told me that the drains were still blocked, so I called Roto Rooter, was told its under warranty, he came out again and then charged me $400 to clear the drain that should have been completed in the first time. I rang head office and spoke to a Manager Rob, who assured me that he would resolve it and raise a credit for me, told me he would call me back, which he has not. I rang 3 times and left messages but they will not return my calls, so I am never going to use Roto Rooter for any of my 23 buildings ever again, and highly recommend other people to go else where also. The company has short term views and clearly only want to rip people off, and this goes all the way to the managers. read more

Two men showed up from this company going to attempt to fix the septic pump that wasn't working properly I thought it froze after the artic blast we had last week. All they really did was plug in a light to check for power in the cgi the light turned on so they figured the plug worked they pulled off the cover to where the pump is and it was full of water they said they couldn't do anything for me because I had standing water in my yard after the snow melted and they wouldn't be able to do anything until the standing water was all pumped out of the yard and my 1/2 horsepower pump wouldn't be able to keep up with all the rain and recent melt so it wont dry up or soak into the ground until we had at least 24 hours of dry and/or warmer weather and since thats not in the forecast and then they charged me 179.00 dollars to pull out the 8 screws and remove the cover and tell me that the septic wasn't going to work so I should get ahold of my insurance company to put me up until it was fixed and that my house was unlivable because there was no septic then they left telling me to call the company back when the water was gone so after they left I called the company that installed the septic the owner came out and checked the power with an amp meter and found that the outer plug had power but the back of the cgi outlet didnt have power going to it so the pump would run but the floats wouldn't so the pump wouldn't turn on it took him all of 30 mins to discover the problem and fix it after roto rooter said they couldnt do anything and I also couldnt get any discounts to lower the bill which had to be paid on the spot read more

Had a drain back up on a rental, they ended up sending out "clean earth" another company they own or something, bottom line, I got horrible communication, it took them about a week, they didn't solve the problem, all they did was dig a hole in the yard. I kept asking for a bill. Next thing I know $458 charge from them on my credit card. Still haven't seen a bill. It appears they charge 458 dollars for a couple hours worth of digging. My biggest complaint with this company is that we were quoted one price range of 140 to 280 and then the bill ended up being almost $400.00. The technician never gave my husband an update that the cost was going to change, merely told him the problem and then tried to sell him on the fact that we should redo our entire underground plumbing system. I had used them previously and actually the company's sticker was on our pipe downstairs. Oh and to top it off they broke a piece of our drain access and then charged us for doing so. I had a qoute from the Three Rivers Mi office to winterize a small cottage, 2 baths and a kitchen sink. The bill came in over $200 more than what was quoted and for no apparent reason. When questioned, the manger stated that they had to do things like drain the water heater and blow out the water lines. Isn't that what winterizing is all about? To make matters worse, they did not honor the $75 dollar credit they gave me for having to repair a water line that was frozen because they didn't flush the water out properly the year before. So my hot water pressure was low in all 3 bathrooms sinks and showers then the hot water completely stopped working in the kids bathroom shower, so I called around and several plumbing companies told me that they didn't work on Manufactured homes. Something told me to call Rotor Rooter so I did, they sent a gentleman by the name of Dominic out and he discovered that all I had to do was turn the hot water valve up on my hot water heater He felt bad for me so he fixed the flap on the toilet in the 3rd bathroom, he flushed my hot water heater and put a better vent on my hot water tank he did all that in less than 35 minutes...Thank you Dominic that $112 was money well spent read more

I called around on a Saturday morning before an 1pm family party to get a severely clogged run of about 25ft cleared out. They were not the cheapest but they said they would show up within the hour. Rich showed up about 45 minutes later, pulled the stool, snaked the drain, replaced the stool. Pulled the p-trap on the sink just to clear it and was done in less than an hour.
