The house had stains, cobwebs, and a more than a few subtle but present unpleasant odors. Justin and his colleague Tony showed up right on time and got to work. They carried dozens of heavy totes up from our downstairs and carefully packed dishware we were donating. They also took a detour to help us move my mom out of the assisted living facility before going back to work on the house. It was a full day of work but they kept it going steadily throughout the day and got an enormous amount of work done. Best of all, they were incredibly kind to both me and my elderly mother. I was incredibly disappointed with Capital Cartage's customer service. While we were lucky to get…read moretheir help on very short notice and the movers themselves were helpful and quick, we had to pay for a minimum of 1.5 hours regardless of how long we needed them. It was not clear that the clock started when they left the office, which is only 7 minutes from our apartment. That being said, they started the clock at 12:45pm and did not arrive until 1:10pm as they had taken a wrong turn. They were hesitant to stay beyond 2pm and we did not push it as we didn't want to get charged for additional time. When my boyfriend called to pay, they told him that someone new had taken the call and didn't know they charged for travel time as well and had forgotten to inform him. When I called to complain, the story had changed and she now claimed to have explained that we would pay for travel time as well. She said they can't afford to send movers out for only an hour and we could have asked for them to finish the job but refused to offer a refund. The only thing she offered were a few free boxes, which are useless now that we have already moved and only worth a fraction of the cost we wasted. Whether or not it is convenient for you to pay for the mistakes of your employees, it is the only appropriate way to handle situations like this - your customers should not be held responsible for these costs.

The crew had both been employed there for years (4 and 6) which is very unusual in the industry and tells me that they must treat their employees better than they do their customers. I like when employees are treated well, so I'm giving a second star. The guys were friendly, professional, and didn't take tons of breaks on the clock, plus they carried out multiple boxes at a time and were concerned with efficiencies - which matters when you're paying someone by the hour. Mary, on the other hand, was awful. She was supposed to send another person (she only sent two instead of the requested 3) which slowed everything down considerably, and also failed to send along the 50 boxes that were supposed to be for packing by the non-existent third person. Since the move was from Richland Center to Madison, it wasn't like another person could run right over. When I complained and asked for a break in price of a third to cover the additional time we'd be paying for, she refused and when I said that I would be writing a negative review she threatened to respond with a personal attack using my mother's name. When I threatened a lawsuit if she did any such thing and called her unprofessional, she threatened to pull the truck and make us find another mover. Luckily I lost the call so she didn't hear what I had to say in response to that. Needless to say, I will be filing a complaint with the BBB. Just saw the response to this review by Mary - I'm glad she admits to threatening to publicly humiliate my mother, not me, the one who is actually doing the complaining. Nice. As to the veracity of her response - I think the reviews speak for themselves, especially the fact that my two stars are the highest review they've gotten. And yes, Mary, you ARE horrible, mean and deceitful. I don't now what you look like so I won't call you ugly (although, in spirit you certainly are).

Pricing was fair and communication excellent. The movers were awesome. The 4 guys were able to haul a huge and heavy dresser up the stairs. It was a challenge, but the guys successfully transferred the dresser upstairs. They were careful with the dresser and walls.
