DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE. I brought my dog for daycare almost every Monday for the last 6 weeks. I dropped him off 2/12 and he was super energetic and lively, when I pick him up around 5:30pm he was drooling and could barely walk out the door. I rushed him to an emergency vet 12 mins away and they told me he had a 106 fever and a lung infection and was borderline septic. After a few days at the hospital his body was not responding to antibiotics and I had to make the difficult decision to put him to sleep. I asked multiple different veterinarians in this process if I had been notified earlier when his behavior first changed if it would have helped his outcome and all agreed that it absolutely would have. When the manager at rover retreat contacted me after I voiced my frustration upon my dog's initial hospital stay, she only stated the staff gave a note to the front desk and the front desk failed to notify me. That the front desk personnel had been reprimanded and retrained, and then offered a refund for my one day of day care. If any of the staff had voiced a concern they should have followed up and in this case if my dog was this bad off the staff should have demanded I come get him. None of this happened, and now my seemingly healthy 2 year old lab is no longer with us. The lack of accountability and oversight clearly shows the staff at this doggy daycare are not properly trained or have no care for the animals they are put in charge of, my dog was suffering for at minimum the last few hours he was in their care, with no communication to me about it. read more

I have significant concerns about Rover retreat's business practices and/or staff training following my border collie's daycare evaluation day. In short, the staff told me that my dog, Leader, passed her evaluation and had a great day. Her tracking collar indicated she was inactive for all but two hours of the day. When pressed on this, the staff finally admitted as much but insisted she would be welcome to come back. Clearly, Leader was not a good fit for this daycare, as she was separated for the vast majority of the day (6+ hours). But if I did not have tracking data to spur questions, I never would have gotten past this initial story. A charitable explanation would be that the staff was disorganized. Alternatively, they just lied. Furthermore, it is clear that Rover Retreat lacks basic knowledge of dog behavior. Even though they ultimately told me that my dog had to be separated entirely from the play group due to rough play in the morning and again in the afternoon, resulting in only about 1.5 hours of total play with other dogs all day, they assured me this was going well and that Leader would benefit from more opportunities at this training. That's nuts. Two experiences in a trial day where your dog needs to be separated makes it incredibly clear that this is not a good match for the dog. It is clear that a lot of this mismatch was due to the space's layout, which would put my and other dogs like it into a frenzy. I had informed staff multiple times before and upon check-in that my dog, while great with other dogs, is barrier and leash reactive. If she goes by many other dogs behind a barrier on the way to a play space, obviously she will react and then interact poorly with the dogs she ultimately sees off leash. I manage this at dog parks through use of sausages until we get to the gate as a lure and by assessing her behavior before we go in to ensure this is going to be a good day (if not, we just go home). This is all basic dog training which Rover Retreat staff should understand. The staff assured me they could work with this. But in peeking through the windows while waiting for my dog upon checkout, I saw that the indoor play area requires a dog to walk by a whole line of kennels of dogs. The back yard is similarly crowded. My dog has done very well in facilities with much more thoughtful layout. This one is honestly 10x worse than the shelter at which I got her. For a dog like mine, this was an absolute nightmare. But yet even after coming clean on how badly the day went, the staff had either the shamelessness or the lack of knowledge to tell me that they were confident this went well. They seriously need the help of behavioral professionals. My advice for owners: if you choose to bring your dog here, demand a tour or pictures. And ask hard questions to ensure you are getting a clear story. My advice for Rover Retreat: don't mislead about how days went for dogs that have tracking collars. It's embarrassing. And hire a behaviorist to do an audit of all your practices. You owe the community basic standards of professionalism. read more

I wanted to love this spot so much, as it was one of the few recommended by my vet, but I just can't recommend them. The employees working in the morning are wonderful, but we have had horrible experiences at evening pick up both times we took our fur baby here. Today we were told that our dog had to be kenneled "because she wasn't getting along with any of the other dogs". My puppy LOVES every dog she has ever met and when she encounters dogs who don't want to play she just leaves the. Alone. We were also told that she tried to chew her way out of the kennel but "we don't know if she hurt herself or not" while the woman basically tossed her leash at my husband. The lack of cameras in the play area coupled with the horrible customer service from the evening staff means that we'll be finding somewhere else to take our girl. read more

I have been taking my dog here every week for almost 3 years. Sometimes a few times per week. The negative reviews on here are laughable. Kennel cough is a risk when putting a bunch of dogs together. Don't want that risk? Don't take them to daycare or board them. Period. My dog is ecstatic to come here. That says it all for me. He cannot always play outside when it's melting hot. So some days he isn't super tired. That's fine with me. He's not alone when I'm at work. These employees love these dogs like their own. My dog is my baby. I am very protective of him, but I trust the staff who love him like I do. read more

I am shocked and appalled at what happened to my dog at Rover Retreat, especially after choosing it based largely off of Yelp reviews, so I feel obligated to share my experience here. I had been bringing my dog to Rover for close to a year and thought everything was great. She seemed a bit less excited to go in the mornings, but I figured she was just tired. One day one of the employees told me that my dog played too rough with the small dogs, so sometimes they needed to put her in a separate area for awhile when she got too wound up. This was fine with me, and I apologized for her behavior and asked if she should not come back, if she was causing problems. They assured me it was no big deal and it happened all the time. A few weeks later my boyfriend picked my dog up one day from Rover. He asked if I had seen the area where they kept her when she was separated from the other dogs, because it looked like they were letting her out of a closet-like door when he came to get her. The next time I picked her up with the intention of asking to see the area where they kept her. The girl came out and said in an embarrassed tone, "oh, she's actually in here today" and let her out of the BATHROOM door. She had been shut in the bathroom, who knows how many times and for how long. I asked to see the bathroom and although the girl tried to hide it, I looked in and saw a tiny bathroom without a dog bed or anything. No food or water (except for the toilet), and she had been in there with the light off. The girl told me it was the first time she had been put there, which was obviously a lie. I left furious and called the next day to speak to the owner. She did not seem to think there was anything wrong with shutting a dog in the bathroom, and also told me it was the first time. Needless to say my dog will never be returning to Rover Retreat, and I hope for your dogs' sake that they don't either. read more

I will preface my review with saying I have asked friends about where they take their dogs for doggy daycare and I have personally visited the Hobnob on W. Colfax prior to checking out Rover Retreat based on the suggestion of my fiance's co-worker who takes his dog there. The location is fantastic, far west Colfax, near I-70 and across from fiance's office. Also, it is a great place for its proximity to the foothills. The prices are very reasonable. We dropped our pup off at 8 am and picked her up at 3:30 for $12.00. They seemed to truly care about whether she "warmed up" to her surroundings (she was a first timer!) They came over to play with her as I got her leash on her and chatted with her as much as they did me. Also, unlike places where all they want to do is tell you how they can pamper your pooch, or what great products they have and how organic they are - they seem to be in the business for less it's hot right now reasons. Update on Breck: We spent 2 hours at the Arvada Urgent Care on Friday night because Breck was so congested and throwing up that he was crying and couldn't breathe very well. Urgent care cost us $384.00 in addition to the vet visit earlier that day. Again, Breck is fully immunized and still got sick. He is nearly 9 months old and has never been sick and never been around other dogs, so we know for a fact that he got sick at Rover Retreat. This makes me very sad. read more

I have nothing but good things to say about this amazing dog daycare and amazing staff. From day one- I have felt 100% comfortable leaving my pup there. I have a rescue who was abused before I got him- and he has a hard time adapting to new people and new places. Rover Retreat went out of there way- and continue to go out of there way- to make my pup feel as comfortable as possible. They are extremely professional and make you and your K9 child feel welcomed right when you walk in. They are in constant contact with you about how your pup is doing- and any events that are happening at the facility. Their hours are also an added bonus. Couldn't ask for a better dog daycare experience. The staff knew my dog by his name after the first visit, and they knew all of his mannerisms soon after. I also like the mandatory nap time, even though it seems counterintuitive to pay for him to be put in a box for a few hours when I can do that at home. The upshot is that I get my dog back physically and mentally tired, but not stressed-out and frazzled (which has been my experience at other daycares). I think the little mid-day alone time helps with that. I was inspired to write this review after watching the entire morning staff mobilize during a late April morning rain/snow to try and catch a dog in the nearby intersection that appeared to have escaped from a home in the area. I've worked in boarding for years, so I'm as picky an owner as can be. I've been using Rover Retreat for about a year as daycare for my Standard Poodles occasionally, with zero problems. They always come home happy and tired. Recently they stayed for their first overnight vacation, for just a few nights. They did PERFECTLY. One of the kids has very restrictive food sensitivities, and he was not given anything that set him off. The other baby is on a medication which can have severe withdrawal effects if not given properly, and she came home with the correct amount of remaining medication. These people are wonderful. They were able to honestly tell me when my boy was being rude to the other dogs, and handle his behavior gently and appropriately. They also know my dogs well enough to know what to expect from them (And me) each visit. I have not yet found any other boarding facility that I trust as I do this one. So thanks, guys, for keeping Meeko and Octavia so happy while we were away! read more

We've been bringing our doggy to Rover Retreat once a week for a few weeks now. I didn't have much to say, as the boyfriend usually dropped/picked him up due to proximity to his work, but his feeling was always good about Rover Retreat and that our doggy seemed to enjoy it. He said they knew him by sight/name by the second visit and greeted him warmly. I happened to pick him up once and the lady at the front desk was SO informative. I'm not sure how many dogs they have coming and going, but she asked me about some of our doggy's anxiety and was very observant with his behavior. She told me to relieve his anxiety, they let him nap up front with them (not in the kennels, since he doesn't like them). I (being one of those mommies) had a ton of questions for her which she answered and helped reduce MY worry. I'm glad there are people there who genuinely care about our pups and their comfort as opposed to just taking them in, and happy we found such a place. read more

I love Rover Retreat. They really take care of the dogs ... and love them like they are their own. Sometimes when you go in you'll see dogs in the office area or even somewhere that may seem strange but that is because that is actually what the dog prefers (I've asked). The dog likes to be alone so the staff will bring the dog in the office with them. I just love that the staff really seems to care and it's not just a job to them. read more

Our dog got kennel couch after the "meet and greet" that is required. A disgusting ear infection, 2 other bacterias, and Giardia followed after her 8 day stay in July. This costs hundreds of dollars to rectify and our dog was left with diarrhea for two weeks after as a results. There are between 50-60 dogs in a cramped space. Just think of the dog feces, feces in the water, dogs licking into your dogs ear, etc. I am shocked at how many dogs are crammed in a tiny space and I wonder what code is for this. We paid for a bath upon arrival and she was still disgusting. I worked in a kennel when I was sixteen years old and put more effort into cleaning dogs than Rover Retreat did. Chances are, you will pick up a sick and tired dog. The dog will be so exhausted from overstimulation and be prepared to nurse a sick dog back to health. At their prices, I would suggest paying a friend to come and stay in your house. This way you will at least save money by not having to pay for a vet visit and rounds of antibiotics and medication. read more

We both travel for work and have been taking our yellow lab Abbey to Rover Retreat for several years. I cannot say enough good things about the staff there; they are very flexible with our changing schedules and we know Abbey is in great hands while we are away. When we come home worn out from work Abbey is also tired from playing all day with the other dogs. read more

Do not trust leaving your dog at Rover Retreat! Within minutes of picking my dog up, I could tell she was very sick; despite me calling twice during her four-day stay to check on her. $170 for boarding, $120 in vet costs to treat kennel cough, and days after calling and notifying Rover Retreat and attempting to speak with the owner, nothing has been rectified. All I have been told is they had a problem with kennel cough a couple months ago (which was when I booked her stay mind you!) and had I known that then, I would have not taken my dog there. Or, had they told me my dogs condition, I would not have extended her stay! Either I was falsely assured of my dogs well-being when I called, or they have too many dogs in their care to truly make sure are happy and healthy. read more

I've been taking my dog here since she was 6 months old. She's now 10. I've NEVER had a bad experience. Everything has been absolutely fantastic since Day 1. My dog loves it so much that as soon as she figures out she's going to Rover Retreat (which happens pretty quickly; I have no idea how) she's whining and shaking with excitement. I've taken her for day care and boarding, and she always plops down exhausted for the rest of the night after I pick her up. The only downside to that is her expectation that I play with her constantly, too! In the past six months, I've gone on three extended (10+ days) trips, and I couldn't have asked for better care for my dog. It's gotten to the point where my dog gets whiny and excited as soon as she sees me packing. And forget about even a goodbye when she gets there. She just wants to go play! They know me when I call and do whatever they can to accomodate my needs every time. I'm moving to the other side of town soon. I am still not going to take my dog anywhere else. My dog has literally grabbed her leash and tried to pull me out of other daycare and boarding places. She knows what she likes. And she LOVES Rover Retreat. read more
