Prior to our family being asked to leave on January 28, 2025, my children had already completed shadow days at neighboring schools in early December. While the academics at this school are rigorous and they pride themselves on being a year ahead, the workload had become increasingly stressful for my oldest child. I began to feel that the expectations were no longer a healthy fit for her, and paying for outside academic support on top of tuition was not something our family could continue long-term. I would like to sincerely thank the families who reached out to us with genuine concern during this time. Several people contacted Mrs. Ossa and Fr. Richard to express their concern regarding how our situation was handled, and that support meant so much. Unfortunately, the reason our family was asked to leave, was due to a rumor created by two mothers . According to Mrs. Ossa, it was claimed that I had spread this rumor to other families. When I challenged the accusation on the Band app, (not mentioning what the rumor was) many parents surprised and said they had not heard of any rumor. What is especially concerning is that before this rumor was ever brought to administration, I had already informed Mrs. Ossa that I had heard two individuals were attempting to start a rumor involving me. Despite that conversation, no action was taken at the time. For clarity, I never accused nor implied that any individual was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a married man. In fact, weeks before the accusation surfaced, one of the mothers involved had asked me to support her in a custody matter regarding her child. I was initially under the impression that she was asking for a character reference letter. However, the request later changed to providing a statement against her ex-husband in court. I declined to participate in that. Shortly after, the allegation against me was reported to the school. When administration contacted me about the accusation, I firmly denied it and reminded them that I had previously brought concerns about this rumor to their attention. Despite this, my family was given three business days to remove our children from the school. This situation was extremely stressful and unfair to my children. They are kind, caring students who had no behavioral issues. While the experience was painful, I had already begun to recognize that this academic environment was not the right fit for my children. What made the transition even more stressful was that when other schools contacted the administration for recommendations in the middle of the school year, the feedback provided created additional challenges for our family. My goal has always been to provide my children with the same Christ-centered education that I experienced growing up. Unfortunately, this experience with the administration deeply shook that trust. As for those mothers, you know who you are, and you are despicable. Though time has passed, I am still appalled that my family was asked to leave on a lie you created. It is terrible that refusing to do something, resulted in your vengeance. You made this rumor up knowing it could have had damaging consequences for the mentioned family. I am sharing this now because I always intended to speak openly about what happened so other families can make informed decisions about the environment they are placing their children in. Despite everything that happened, I remain hopeful that schools rooted in faith can lead with fairness, compassion, and integrity.

I will say I have had my complaints about and with the school, but now with "head of school" gone I feel comfortable sending my child back next year. The previous "head of school" (Mr. Emmanuel Lacoste) seemed like a dictator and I was unsure about sending my daughter there next year. However, he recently abruptly resigned and I have noticed the administration moving towards positive change. The majority of the staff are very nice and always saying hello. I have had my complaints with the school regarding communication which have been addressed appropriately. The school now has provided better communication and they seem more willing to hear concerns. Previously I emailed the head of school and never received a response. I called many times and spoke to the head of school one time and asked to meet with him. He assured me I could walk into his office anytime. The next day I went to try to meet with him, and he was unable to meet with me. I believe the school is headed in a positive direction and I plan to send both of my daughters there in the future. To those reading these reviews... there are evident fake reviews by people who find it necessary to make fake accounts and try to hide behind a negative review. I'd urge you to ask a parent about their experience rather than just read a review from someone who may be a previous parent or ex employee.

First time enrolling both of my kids for summer school. This week is their third week. Everything…read moredone through google form. If I showed up in person, sometimes someone buzzed me in to the office, sometimes no one in the office and I had to try another time. Good thing my kids already older and they can communicate things with me. But I will not consider this school for regular attendance based on gap of communication among staff, educators and parents. It feels that parents concerns are not appreciated. The issue that I had was class changes, updating pick up person form. Had to do it multiple times and still not updated. So if you enroll your kids in summer school, pick your classes wisely. My daughter accidentally picked 3 science classes back to back and the school did not make any attempt to help us to change it until the next two days. One of this science class, my daughter was the only student there. For third week of summer school, my daughter chose spanish class as her last class of the day, and she was enrolled to something else. ---update 7/22/26 in response to South Hills Business Manager--- Thank you for your response. I appreciate your feedback. However, I would like to understand how South Hills Academy ensures that parents are able to effectively communicate their concerns with the Summer School division when emails go unanswered, phone calls are not returned, and, upon visiting the front office in person, I was instructed to "just email the director." I followed the process your staff directed me to follow by emailing the director, yet I did not receive any response or acknowledgment from South Hills Academy. As a parent, this leaves me without a clear avenue to address legitimate concerns. I would appreciate your clarification on how parents are expected to communicate when the established channels are unresponsive. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.

My niece attends Royal Oak middle school. This is her first year and it's been nothing but a…read morehorrible experience. They allow bullying at this school. Her dad has talked to the school, principal, counselors and teachers with absolutely no help. They know who the problem kids are and they do nothing about it. Her dad even went to the school district for help. They told him, go back and speak to the school because they know the student. My niece is autistic and was put in a regular class, expected to fend for herself. The year started with bullying, now they torment her and the school and the district sit in their offices with their arms crossed and do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Special needs children are covered under the disability act. They have the right to attend school like the other kids. I guess the only way to solve this is to take legal action and get the media involved. Maybe then they will go into damage control!

First of all, this establishment claims that it "empowers students to be innovative and creative problem solvers." However, this statement completely contradicts what I went through. When I was a freshman in high school, I was placed into an honors math class and felt that I was prepared for the year ahead of me. This honors class was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken even though I had taken the exact same class in eighth grade. My math teacher would often say that "You guys have seen this before" or "You guys should know how to do this from middle school." I didn't. I had no idea what I was doing when I got to high school and felt incredibly behind from all of my peers. The fact that the subject I felt the least prepared in was math coming from a self-proclaimed "STEM Academy" was beyond me. I know my limitations and math was not it. I had all A's in math while attending this school. One of the biggest things I NEVER learned in Algebra I at IC was mean/median/mode. I remember that everyone of my peers in that freshman year Honors Algebra I class already knew this from middle school.

The teacher really listens to my concerns with his development. I had my kids in private school but when my kids started wescove I was truly impressed with West Covina's public school system. My son comes home signing songs and shows me the work he's done in class. My daughter still goes to private school and only attends speech at wescove but as she gets older I'm strongly considering transferring her. My son also attends options for learning afterschool at wescove. It's really nice because I don't have to worry about moving him. He just gets walked over after class and the school is completely gated so I don't have to worry about him running off. The school only goes to second grade and in my opinion that's great. It is a nuisance to have to transfer schools for an Elementary class, but a big plus side is that because it only goes up to second grade the traffic is less. Having to drop off and pick up it's never as hectic as any other elementary school I drive past and because there's less students the teacher and admin are able to get to know the students better.
