Circus Bar has recently undergone a hige refurbishment and the results are nothing short of impressive, spread across two levels Circus has the main room downstairs complete with rich red walls, chic circular booths and of course a decent dance floor. Upstairs is the balcony that has been fitted out in a way that resembles the beach bars in Miami. The balcony has a second bar as well as another dj booth and looks out over the top of Chapel Street and Commercial Road. Circus is open Thursday through Sunday and is available for both birthdays and private functions.

Has a very weird mixed crowd of people which you never would of thought existed. The venue is very nice looking and plays the exact same music as revolver as they both have the same resident DJs. The rooftop is beautiful but they do close some of it off for functions. The only negative points of the venue are the crowd (essentially the revolver rejects, me being one of them at the time ) and gets very overcrowded being a small venue. Only time I would visit is when everything else is shut as it closes around midday Monday. On the positive super friendly staff and security, great music and nice looking venue.

Pretty Please is quite feminine in it's decoration, firstly the entrance is two big hot pink doors with a large silver doorknob. Inside the walls have been painted with a kind of jungle like floral effect it feels almost like you have stepped out into some kind of Alice In Wonderland type world. There are chic booths for sitting and gossiping and of course a good sized dancefloor. Pretty Please has club nights from Thursday to Sunday, I have found the crowd to usually be quite alternative and very young (probably very early twenties) and quite often male dominated, so like most clubs in Melbourne, if you are a group of guys looking for a night out, best pick up some girls along your way otherwise you will most likely be refused entry.

We all thought silently to ourselves, isn't it odd that so many people (males and females) were going in together with hardly the same numbers coming out? So we finished our cocktails, and went to go check it out, yep there was more to it. Travelling upstairs you pass a smaller, private function room and the higher up you go, it's a gym! Or there was one club I went to in Barcelona that simply charged women more, which worked to keep the ratio down and the hag quality high. But at the end of the day, the most important thing is that the managers do what they do to ensure the club serves its core clientele. You want to bitch about gender inequality? Let's talk about the Melbourne Club. Not even the Prime Minister and Governor-General can get in there. Once inside, the Peel is standard issue cheesy club fun - loud pop music, pricey drinks, crowded smoking area. If you're there with fab friends, you will have a fab time. My advice, ladies, is don't find the queuing thing prohibitive. Except if you are gaggle of girls out for a laugh or a hen's night, in which case you should go somewhere else because you're spoiling it for the rest of us. The bar service is quite slow but there is enough room to move around. Onesixone is one of the few bars to be open till very late in Melbourne but I would highly recommend other bars in the area that better cater to social crowds and have a cleaner entertainment space.

After walking up a few flights of stairs (Ok, i love Melbourne, but why does every cool venue require you to puff yourself out) and arrived into a sleek lounge / bar space with a smokers area. The vibe was quite stylish and upper class... until the crowd rocked up. The venue picked up quite quickly and i could see a line that went almost around the corner. Out the back of the first room is a giant dance floor and bar which let us dance like drunken fools. The DJ was dropping heavy ghetto beats from newbies like Nicki Minaj to old school Tupac! Epicly awesome! The loft had a great atmosphere but i can imagine it was probably better for me because of my state of total inebriation. The crowd was a tad sleazy and the outback dance floor resembled the Lions on the outskirts looking at the gazelles preparing for their attack... (Who does't love a National Geographic reference).
